Here’s the skinny on #FeastOfLegends: it was made by VMLY&R, the agency I worked for before leaving to Andrews McMeel Universal to make Zweihander Grim & Perilous RPG full time as their exec creative director of games.
Feast of Legends was designed by Matt Keck (@smugkeck on Twitter), Tony...
I feel there are only two things that are important when it comes to creating a balanced game: 1) an even level of distribution of abilities/skills/traits/talents to each class/profession/career and 2) a bounded accuracy model. Here's a critical view of my favorite games when it comes to these...
A ton of awesome games won at the ENnies! Mothership, Warhammer Fantasy, Fall of Delta Green, Forbidden Lands, Symbaroum and many others killed it. I was disappointed that Asians Represent! and Uncaged Anthology were overlooked by voters, and I’ll have some feelings to share about that later at...
Hopefully will be able to meet some of you all at Gen Con this year! Most of the Zweihänder Grim & Perilous crew will be in attendance.
We will be at Studio 2 Publishing booth #2029 all day Saturday & Sunday. We've got a ton of free bookmarks and a limited run for pre-release Main Gauche books...
I’m going to be at GenCon this year at Studio 2 Publishing’s booth 2029 Saturday/Sunday.
The game I’m most excited for is Cyberpunk Red. After chatting with Mr. Pondsmith last year, he immediately gained a fan. I had overlooked Cyberpunk in my youth, and discovered a deeply thematic game that I...
Describe how a date with you would be Grim and Perilous: Smooth jazz. Sweet whispers. Whiskey sours. Nerdy tete-a-tete.
Why do you need two dates? Two dates are better than one.
Anyone wanna be my date to the ENnie Awards ceremony at GenCon 2019?
ENnies Dream Date is an auction to sit with Grim & Perilous Studios at the awards ceremony + get some #ZweihanderRPG books. 100% of proceeds go towards sponsoring the ENnies ceremony. Here's the prize pack:
Zweihänder Grim &...
There are four major awards in the industry. Three of them operate by secret committee:
1. Diana Jones Award
2. Indie Groundbreakers
3. Origin Awards (there are on-site voting for popularity, but the main awards that matter are judged in secret)
ENnies remain the premier awards ceremony for...
This is your friendly neighborhood Zweihander, reminding you that the 2019 ENnies voting booth is now open!
I didn't submit this year, but am a strong supporter of the ENnie Awards. Anyone who tells you they don't matter is ignorant of how it can propel your game towards a whole new audience...
Mark Mackinnon has burned numerous, well-established people in the tabletop role-playing game industry:

You be the judge.
It's one thing to admit fault, apologize and to make amends as best you can. It's another to cast Handwavium and to not apologize or honor your obligations.

I'm literally giving a talk on this here at Andrews McMeel Universal on Thursday, addressing what I've come to call Mastering the RPG Ecosystem. In essence, I suggest that there is a biz strategy to use 'snackable', digestible one-shot content as a way to convert people who are curious...
I would use a 3 phase gameplay: down-time in between battles for drama, up-time in veritech for space battles, mid-time in transit for space travel.
System? D100, all the way.
1) About six weeks. We have been remodeling the basement over time. It took about 8 months: here is how far we’ve come (not yet finished):
2) Minis. The gameplay is far too complicated.
3) We dropped a blue Yeti recently from the ceiling, and working on a new video option. Our focus is...
Much like the Cthulhu mythos, Ravenloft works best when the players don’t know about the campaign world they’re about to begin in. Rvenloft has always been a love/hate relationship for me. Once that nice, chunky boxed set hit the table, the players knew what they’re getting themselves in to.
A...
My mind is a bit blown. My wife just dropped me a note that Tabletop Gaming Magazine UK arrived at our doorstep, and they published a review of Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG! Fkin rad:
Good question. It is the standard among the publishing industry, next to NPD Bookscan.
To be more specific, I can look at every RPG that's currently being sold with an ISBN-13 in Bookscan, and tell you distinctly what the sales are to-date. It's how ICV2 derives its data outside of tertiary...
Publishers pay for cover-forward placement via Simon & Schuster. Sure - I have a tendency to turn my own books face forward on trad shelves when I see it, but it's a contractualized, paid requirement with some books and stores. B&N and Books-A-Million comes to mind.
We are running a donation drive this month to help offset the costs of running the Pub and to avoid running intrusive ads in the future. If you would like to help out please visit this thread for more details. Thank you!
