While folding laundry, watching an early 16th century period piece on Starz channel about Catherine (Catalina) of Aragon (Aragón) called The Spanish Princess. Looks like it's a new series.

I just finished Glow Season 2, which was great. Now flipping between Arrow and Flash until the crossover episode (which I have to wait for, as Supergirl isn't out on Netflix yet)

I'm flipping between Arrow, Flash and Supergirl right now. I'm digging Flash the most. Supergirl is my least favorite right now. It's too close to some real life stuff right now in the world, so it's been a bit of a turn off. Arrow is ok, but hasn't been great. The Elseworlds crossover seemed less impressive than I had hoped. It also makes me wonder if they are really going to go all out when they do Crisis on Infinite Earths next year. They are going to have 5 shows next season since Batwoman will be out. They can't leave out the Legends, and really need to bring in Black Lightning and family. Plus we need to see John Wesley Shipp as multiple versions of The Flash. And bring back Breacher and Gypsy! Hell, bring back Mon-El and the Legion. They need to go big with that storyline, since it was a major defining moment for DC. Anything else is just going to be lackluster

rewatching Merlin, season 4.

Fuck all else to watch.

Did rewatch Dr Who season 11 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not without valid criticisms, but I am on board with Jodie.

Finished Flash. The finale shows that the Crisis Flash disappears during in the future is coming sooner than originally shown (which was originally 2024). Given Crisis on Infinite Earths will be the next crossover, it makes sense. I'm totally digging how much Elongated Man has evolved since last season. He's pretty awesome

Watched Double or Nothing last weekend, All Elite Wrestling's "first" show as themselves. Really good event, not a bad match on the card, and it shows they've got a serious shot at becoming a high-end promotion as well as showing a variety of talent; the six-woman tag match was an impressive skills performance, while the "serious" matches carried a lot of drama even if I hadn't seen the build-ups to them. Plus they had JR on commentary, and when he's on, he can sell a match like no other.

There were a few weird bits - like seeing Allie, and thinking "hang on, I watched you literally die a few weeks ago" - and some of the matches were maybe a bit long, I'm used to Impact which is a very tight and punchy promotion even in their PPV's, but overall it was a great show, well worth it.

I think Double or Nothing proved AEW is going to be a quality alternative to WWE. The only part I felt didn't work (or seem to go over with the crowd) was when the Super Smash Brothers and their minions showed up after the Best Friends/Evans & Angelico match. It was like the crowd didn't even know who they were. Which is too bad, because they're a talented tag team.

And Awesome Kong! It's nice to see her, even if she's incredible on GLOW

I think it remains to be seen how well they do a small weekly show, how they scale down to that, but I can't see any reason to doubt they will pull it off.

I did like seeing Awesome Kong, but I think booking two monsters into that match was a bit much, and meant Nyla Rose didn't really get a chance to show off because Kong does that gimmick even better.

I was wondering who the mystery tag team were!

This Wonder Women episode of Rifftrax on Amazon Prime is hilarious, one of their best.

Watching Bad Blood on Netflix, a series about the Canadian mob. Season 1 was pretty gritty, with sociopath thugs doing sociapathic thugish things. Season 2 has taken a more romanticised view of organised crime where some sociopath thugs apparently have "a code" and "some standards". It's still good entertainment.

Finished The Flash, and finished Arrow. I'm almost done with Supergirl. Flash was pretty good. Arrow was so-so, but the final episode helped build more to next year's Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Supergirl has been a bit of a chore for me though. The whole season has involved a group fomenting anti-alien sentiment against all the aliens living in the USA. The leader of the group actually had a backstory that shows how he came to think this way (he originally did not), and was very well done. However, most of the group who follow him are just stereotypes, and that turns me off (I have no problem watching racists and neo-nazi types get beat up. I just prefer them be at least somewhat interesting, or else it's no different than everything else out there with the same type of bad guys). Lex Luthor shows up in the last quarter of the season, which adds a new twist (and ties into something revealed at the end of last season's finale). I only have 2 episodes left though, so I'll muddle through. But this has been just not as interesting to me as other.

I'll likely take a break before moving onto the last season of Legends of Tomorrow (which I heard was really good). I'm probably going to watch You'll Always be my Maybe, a new original film featuring Ali Wong & Randal Park (with a much talked about appearance by Keanu Reeves).

I also started watching Overlord, but so far, it's not grabbing me.

Utterly shocked at the lack of Chernobyl love in this thread. What an amazing series.

Maybe no one has seen it yet. I don't have HBO, so I have to find it elsewhere. Given I prefer to watch the entire series in a mini-binge, I won't even consider it until it's over

Just finished the second episode of Good Omens on the recommendations here and this show is really delightful.

Also two episodes in. So far I'm finding it really dry with only a couple of really funny scenes. And I feel like I'm watching the 7th and 10th Doctors working together (not that that's a bad thing).

Yeah. I stopped watching Supergirl towards the end of the third season because it just became far too political, and not even the good kind. More like the extremely blatant "bash your head in with a politically wrapped brick three or four times per episode so we'll be clear that you get our message" kind. Since all of the CW DC shows are tied together, I stopped watching the rest as well. It's a shame, as Supergirl has been one of my favorite fictional characters for decades, and Legends of Tomorrow is/was excellent fun.

Surprisingly, it ended better than I was expecting. I will say they're not really that tied together imho, other than their annual crossovers. The three shows couldn't have been more different. Flash & Arrow aren't really political like Supergirl is. I could have stopped watching the show after the crossover, but there was some good stuff in there. It just wasn't as often as I'd have liked. But the finale's end (setting up next season, and more importantly next year's crossover) that was actually cool. But yeah, it's best taken in smaller doses

So for a change of pace, I watched You'll always be my Maybe, starring Ali Wong & Randal Park. It's a romantic comedy, and I tend to be picky when it comes to those. This one really entertained me. Keanu Reeves part is hilarious; he plays an over the top version of himself. It's like a doped up hippie version of William Shatner when he was on SNL and did that skit where he told the "fans" at the convention "Get a Life!". He's charming yet totally douchebagy at the same time. It's awesome. Plus it leads to Randal Park performing a song during the end credits (his character is a musician in the movie, and fronts a band), and it's pretty funny. Netflix can be really good with their originals sometimes (and others not so much). This one was good. It helps I loved Ali Wong's two stand up specials for Netflix; I didn't even know her before I saw those.

Just got back from watching X-Men Dark Phoenix. And I find myself wondering, just how many times can they completely miss the point of the storylines they're supposed to be mining for ideas?

Maybe when the X-Men blend into the MCU, we can finally get something worthy of the source material.

IT'S ROBOT FIGHTING TIME!

New series of Battlebots has just started, and if that opening episode is anything to go by, it's going to be a good one - I know they likely stacked the card, but even some of the losers came out of that looking good.

Just finished Series 3 and 4 of Resurrection:Ertugrul and am looking for something else to watch.

Might watch the Turkish Vampire thing that's at Series 2 or Star Trek Whatever it is at Series 2. Might even watch something new, but probably don't want anything medieval for a bit.

Finished Chernobyl today.

Reactions on my Facebook and Twitter feeds are a mess of right-wing people gloating “lol communism sux” and left-wing people yelling “Soviet black legend bs.” If we’re going to be all serious about it maybe we can talk about how lack of transparency and misguided incentives generate disasters? It’s not like the private sector is devoid of those, right?

Dunno man, much as I enjoy the MCU their take on Spider-Man doesn’t hold a candle to Sam Raimi’s. (Even taking Raimi’s weaksauce Spider-Man 3 into account.)

And how the hell does one replace Hugh Jackman as Wolvie? Tall order (so to speak).

To be fair, Spider-Man 2 was amazing. Almost everything about it was perfect. 1 and 3 haven't held up as well if you ask me.

But it all starts with the script, which is where the X Movies have always struggled.

1 was good, 2 was truly great, 3 was bad.

Incidentally this goes for both Raimi’s Spider-Man and Bryan Singer’s X-Men.

I have watched the mini-series Chernobyl, a very good show about a very bad event; I actually recommend it.

I also watch Couterpart, a very interesting 2 seasons thriller with deals with parallel worlds which can be a good source of inspiration for TimeWatch (Chernobyl can also be used for this game.

I have also watched Killing Eve; a thriller with 2 protagonists who I did not find likeable and relatable. But it is an interesting watch nonetheless. It may be a good inspiration for Night's Black Agents or other RPGs which deal with espionage, criminal underworld and double-crossing.

Finishing up Legends of Tomorrow's most recent season. This is always my favorite of the CW DC shows. it can get goofy at times, but a lot of fun. Plus Constantine is a member this season, along with a few new characters. Mick/Heatwave is still my favorite character

I'm also watching Manhunt: The Unabomber, a discovery channel mini-series about the hunt for the serial bomber. Some excellent performances by Paul Bettany as said Unabomber, and Sam Worthington as the FBI profiler who helps catch him

Watched this yesterday. Pretty funny. Key takeaways:
- Marlon Brando was an asshole who seemed to create other assholes via contagion throughout his life and should never have been allowed to get away with so much for so long.
- But at least Marlon Brando was a fun and partly justified asshole some of the time. Val Kilmer was just a pure-breed asshole most of the time.
- Pagan rituals involving blood and pentagrams might be able to secure movie deals for you.
- Torment is starting as the director of your dream project and ending up illegally sneaking back onto the set as an extra in a dog mask to watch it all fall apart after you get fired.
- Marlon Brando created Mini-Me.
- "We can't put scenes of animal-people engaging in chaotic drug-fueled orgies in our movie!" Extras dressed as animal-people engage in chaotic drug-fueled orgies behind the scenes anyway.

Finished Legends of Tomorrow. Once again, they saved the day, but changed the timeline slightly. Seeing the Monitor eating popcorn in the crowd made me happy, as that is an obvious sign they will be part of Crisis on Infinite Earths. And Twice they poked fun at the fact they missed this years crossover! The moment where Mick/Heatwave points out to White Canary they are the last two remaining original Legends was a somber moment. Given how the finale went, I suspect we're going to see more Constantine (which given how well Matt Ryan portrays him, can only be a good thing).

And Vandal Savage! That was a really weird cameo.

I don't think we should get in the habit of using spoiler tags to semi-bring up politics around here. I know your intentions are pure, I just want to dissipate the formation of a precedent.

Watched Series 2 of The Protector, Turkish Hero vs Immortals, it was OK, but had some ropey bits. Shouted at the screen when they said that the Black Plague Virus was carried by locusts.

Now watching Star Trek: Discovery Series 2 and shouted at the screen a couple of times, mainly when they had a couple of hours to stop an asteroid being pulled into a pulsar, if they were that close to a pulsar they'd have bigger problems. I know that Star Trek has only a very loose grasp of anything scientific, but this series just seems to be using words without any idea what they mean.

Watched Hagazussa on Shudder. An arthouse horror film, slow and minimalist that builds towards one hell of a psychedelic and transgressive climax. Hardcore art/horror fans should love it.

So, are we abandoning using the TV Recommendations thread for this purpose now? I'll join in the switch then.

We just started watching Hi Score Girl (Hai Sukoa Gāru). Pretty fun so far.

Also really enjoying season 5 of Bates Motel.
