Did I just read right, AsenRG AsenRG thst you did up a sex in the city witch using Cepheus Modern for a local? Impressive
No, I didn't do a witch through a copy of the Cepheus Engine, of course! What made you say that:tongue:?

Joking aside, I just rolled a witch PC for the player, using the Wizard lifepath in Cepheus Modern (College Wizard and Street Wizard are both tucked away in the Magic chapter, because obviously some modern campaigns might include such PCs. Oh, and there's a lifepath for Psionic Agents in the Psionics chapter, and a separate chapter for cybernetics enhancements. Using any of them is, of course, the repsonsibility of individual Referees, they're clearly labelled optional:evil:)!

If applying a supernatural template to your favorite TV series character is wrong, I don’t want to be right! (“OMG Jake Peralta from Brooklyn 99 is such a Malkavian.”)

Also, congratulations on bringing in new blood into the fold! One of us, one of us...

Nothing was wrong with that...except it's not exactly my favourite series:grin:!
Then again, I've played worse.

Congratulations accepted. I'm currently explaining her how to create suitable opposition, sandbox-style
:gunslinger:!
Of course, I'm not using the word "sandbox". We're talking using terms from the stuff she's familiar with: writing.
But it's very much Sandbox Refereeing whether I'm running a game or writing, so it's not really a problem:shade: .

I've been pondering on an idea of sorts.

What if there was a Vampire: The Masquerade video game that was based on the very first edition of the game?

Specifically, I'm envisioning an old early 90's JRPG in the style of the early Final Fantasy games for the NES/Famicom and SNES/Super Famicom.

Instead of "Jobs", you'd have Clans and I'm thinking the game's overworld would be a city based on the greater Chicago Metropolitan Area (and Milwaukee as well)

RPG Maker awaits. I'd be completely shocked if there weren't already some resource sets you could use.

Is Bloodlines not based on VtM 1e?

Busily ripping off a scenario from an issue of G.I. Joe Special Missions for use with Dogs of War, though I'm thinking about switching to using Merc instead (with some rerolls as needed to make sure everybody qualifies for a needed role--or just changing the needed roll to the minimum score needed to qualify).

Amazingly I got all these toys for under $50 and they've already arrived despite only having been ordered on Thursday night. I didn't expect to have anything ready for today's game.

This afternoon I'm running a somewhat rewritten version of G.I. Joe Special Missions #2 as a mercenary/special ops scenario. One set of PCs will be tasked with retrieving a Nazi scientist/war criminal from a compound in South America, with interference from a Mossad unit looking to bring him to Israel to stand trial, while the alternate PCs get to try to retrieve the biological warfare chemicals from the Nazi plane stuck in an iceberg, with interference from the Soviets who want it for their own evil purposes. (It's the 1980s: easier for me to create scenarios as the Russians make great adversaries and also we wanted the PCs to be able to be Vietnam veterans.)

I'm finding G.I. Joe Special Missions to be a great resource for scenario generation. I'm only on issue 3 but so far every issue could be 1-3 afternoons of action-adventure. The advantage over the main comic book is all the stories are standalone scenarios that can be dropped in any order and so far they're all small unit actions. Good stuff! I'll be ripping off additional issues as needed. All i have to do is slightly alter the situations to make them more playable and open-ended and then draw up a few maps and diagrams. The Internet is such a great blessing for roleplaying as well: showing the players a photo of the enemy's Mil Mi-24 gunship that is approaching their position goes a long way toward establishing the mood.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the Americans need the Nazi scientist to disarm the weapon; the Russians want the weapon for themselves.

I'd really like to see a Vampire grand strategy game. Like Crusader Kings, but you play elder vampires instead.

Well my first time running on Discord is going to be delayed because someone dropped out, leaving me with only 2 players. Since they were new to playing the system, we figured it best to reschedule, since the other players really wanted this person to play (as they are considering getting it to run with his real life group). Still have Free RPG Day in 2 weeks though, so that is cool

It has been argued by people in my group that while my admonishments to come to gaming and risk divorce should be ignored, family HAS to love you, and the gaming group just has to tolerate you. Thus, come to gaming.

Truth, after the vampire wars crossed with sex in the city would be a fun game with the right group. Not my group of over 40 white men, but some group!

And I actually own (or used to) dvds of a couple of seasons of sex in the city. Me, personally, not my wife. It was a fun series, excellent music (introduced me to Diana Knall), and I’ve had a thing for Kim Cantrell since a very long time ago ;)

I'm not familiar with them. But how do you feel about Diana Krall and Kim Cattrall?

I just used the same set-up to introduce to RPGs one of my wife's friends during a kids party. She was intrigued...
We'll see in the future whether she'd want to join, and whether she'd be able to if she wants. But at least I'm raising the awareness of RPGs:grin:!

It could be, indeed. Not sure if we'd continue it, but it's a possibility.

Well, didn't expect that from you, but whatever rocks your boat:tongue:!
Thoough I agree the music is kinda nice, the association with "Sex & the City" is too strong for me to enjoy it in its own right.

I watched Sex and the City when it started as it was on HBO. At first I thought it was a pretty good satire with some appealing vulgar dialogue but either I was mistaken or the show changed as it found success and any sense of irony disappeared and it became purely aspirational. I realized it was kinda like Seinfeld but apparently you were supposed to think they weren’t terrible, shallow people.

You nailed this show to a T, IMO!

Stalker doesn't get enough love. He was one of the best characters in the GI Joe comic.

The best GI Joe movie was Canzo Empyrean

One Stalker is badass, and you are correct does not get enough love. Neither do army rangers in general. (My personal experience. Could be influenced by personally knowing several)

Second is that trailer for a real movie?

Yes, a rather infamous independent film, shot guerrilla-style without permits around New York.

It takes special effort to see the film, but it's definitely a unique experience

The game looks to be happening this Sunday, and looks like I got more players than I would have had last Sunday. So hopefully it worked out in the end

Hey, guess what happened to me after all that kidney-stone talk earlier in this thread?

That's right, suddenly went to the ER for a kidney stone yesterday. It is the purest agony I've experienced in all my 37 years. I ground my teeth and screamed from time to time. I begged for anything to make it stop. Once the meds were administered I descended into exhausted stupor.

Now, a day later and in the depths of pain medication (damn stone still hasn't come out and I'm peeing through a tea strainer to try and catch it for analysis), I find myself thinking about all those poor men throughout history who've been stabbed or shot in the guts. I might spend the rest of my life wincing when I see it depicted in media or hear about it at the gaming table.

I know exactly how you feel. I've had 8 kidney stones so far in life. It's important to get it analyzed so you can find out what it is that you were doing to develop them, most likely too much or imbalanced calcium/oxalate. It's a hard line to walk. I know you don't want to hear this right now, but once you've had 1, you're 60% more likely to develop another. They suck the shit from a dead man's ass. I make sure to drink a lot of citric acid and nettle leaf tea in an attempt to avoid more.

You're right, that's really not what I wanted to hear right now. But thanks for the advice.

Am I going to have to lug ibuprofen everywhere for the rest of my life just in case I have an agonizing attack somewhere inconvenient? Is this causing me permanent damage, shorting my life or something?

Once you get it analyzed and figure out the root cause, that will help a lot in avoiding them in the future. My first 2 were from drinking too much sweet tea. Those started passing in the middle of class when I was in college. So I stopped drinking sweet tea and didn't have another for 10 years. Then I started getting calcium oxalate stones. Those are all about balance in your diet and avoiding the wrong foods. That's mainly what I'm talking about with a hard line to walk.

Hopefully, you don't start getting them regularly, but if you do you learn to recognize the symptoms. Pay attention if you start getting a diffuse pain between your ribs and pelvis on your side, kind of like a muscle ache. Start drinking a buttload of water if you notice that. I try to drink at least 128 oz of fluids a day, including real lemonade with citric acid and nettle leaf tea. One of the first tests the urologist will likely have you do is pee in a jug for 24 hours to make sure you're hydrated enough. At least 2 of my stones came right after I'd exerted myself a lot and gotten dehydrated.

Forget carrying Ibuprofen. That's just chucking a cup of water on a house fire. I have a stockpile of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and Tramadol, plus some Flowmax. They can take the edge off, but seriously just start mainlining water as soon as you think you might have one. The awful part is trying to get the stone from kidneys to bladder and water will help that.

I don't think there are really any serious implications to your lifespan from kidney stones, but they can also lead to other kinds of kidney issues. After my first 3rd and 4th passed, I developed some scar tissue in my urinary tract somewhere. One day it tore loose. So I went to take a leak and it was just like peeing pure blood. Freaked me the hell out. Went to the urologist and they did a cystoscopy, which is where they stick a camera up your wang. Let me tell you that is no fun whatsoever. Fortunately, that only happened the one time.

Good luck, man! I'll pray that you never go through this again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Having had a stone myself, I'm suddenly glad that I drink a lot of water as a matter of principle!

I had one done a couple years ago. If I have another one done in my life, it will be too soon.

What's that Cowboy/Wild West film where they cure STDs by sticking a heated pipe right up the affected hole? Made my eyes water.

I'm reading a book on Mountain folk magic, to get ready for a game a friend wants to run. Running Shadowrun--should hit the end of the arc tomorrow, if things work as planned. Though Wednesday I nearly stopped breathing (allergy attack, never had one that scary) but I took Benedryl immediately, and hit the doc the next day. With no idea what allergen I'd contact there wasn't much to do.

I've been on a kick of reading lesser known/obscure RPGs. At some point I should start doing read through reviews of them (probably won't do actual play reviews, as I read too many and have to few times to game to do that, but as long as you are up front about that, I think readthrough reviews are fine). I've been going through the Double Cross books at the moment, Aletheia is next on my list of weird shit.

Double Cross sounds super fun though. Aletheia sounds just wild and possibly unplayable.

I'm trying to recover after 8 hours of training today...

Because 8 more hours of training begin in less than 10 hours:grin:!

Yes, 2-day seminars with 3 Grandmasters can be taxing, but it's so much fun:tongue:!

Was it The Great Scout & Cathouse Thursday? I vaguely recall a subplot about a cure for the clap.

The usual Saturday game fell through so I played Basic Dungeons & Dragons with my kids instead. They both invented some "better dragons" for me to use sometime:

My son's "4-Headed Doomsday Dragon" is waaaaaay over-the-top and unbeatable ("breathe anything" and "immortal" are just two of its listed abilities!), but my daughter gets extra points for originality as I don't think anyone else would think to name a dragon "Indo Crazy Spine" and give it "nut-cracking feet."
