Swo

Perhaps I should ease the tension by merging the threads.

Certainly not, you need to further split this one into pro-swo and anti-swo, then move the anti-swo branch to the Site and Community section so we won't be distracted by their efforts to slip covert anti-swo messaging into our peaceful gaming and pro-swo-ing.

I was thinking of moving this thread to the new swo sub-forum, but your solution does seem more elegant.

Okay. I'll stop now.

Sue me. I'm bored.

EDIT: deleted my post above the last one because it was lazy effort.

Its morning here in Australia, and I eagerly checked the forum for interest in my Swordfish Islands thread, but have gotten swamped in all the goofiness going on in the northern hemisphere last night over my fumbled 'Swo' thread. Out of all the gonzo responses this morning, I think Picaroon Jack sums my feelings up perfectly

And this is why RPGNet isn't my home base, heh heh

(Got some minor hassles here at present, so actually all this forum goofiness put a smile on my face. Thanks RPG Pub for being RPG Pub, heh heh, greatly appreciated )

By all means carry on

Swo is a Bantu language of the Akonolinga area, Cameroon. One dialect has been influenced by Beti.

The Bantu language is in orange below.

The territory of present-day Cameroon was first settled during the Neolithic Era. The longest continuous inhabitants are groups such as the Baka (Pygmies). From here, Bantu migrations into eastern, southern, and central Africa are believed to have originated about 2,000 years ago. The Sao culture arose around Lake Chad, c. 500 AD, and gave way to the Kanem and its successor state, the Bornu Empire. Kingdoms, fondoms, and chiefdoms arose in the west. A Fon is a chieftain or king of a region of Cameroon, especially among the Widikum, Tikar, and Bamiléké peoples of the Bamenda grass fields (the Northwest, West Region) and the Lebialem of the South West Region.

Cameroon is next to Lake Chad. And the Sahara Desert is next to Lake Chad.

Personally, I think a post-Neolithic Era Cameroon with PCs who are Fons would make a fine campaign to run after the post-modern navy deck officers campaign. Keep those ideas coming.

Why wait? Just use time-travel to intertwine the two settings. And have them all be ducks of course, like a three-part episode of DuckTales that got out of hand. And the sailors should all curse, but the curse words are censored with duck quacks.

Make it swo.

I'm not sure what to say :trigger:

I'm deeply honoured with how this thread has taken off. Never in my wildest dreams did I think anyone would be interested in Swo.
In all honesty, I though Swo didn't appeal to a wider audience, and perhaps it had already had it's time.
Looking around at all of you I am proud to say that I was wrong.
With your support, we can get Swo out there to the masses, and have everyone playing it, drinking it, ingesting it, whatever.

The Swo must Flow

Thank you for making this dream come true

PS:
This forum should now develop its own rpg gaming engine, and title it something that can be abbreviated to Swo (or SWO)

The difficulty lies in the fact that no mere system has ever really done Swo any justice.

Maybe a Shadowrun-GURPS combination using all supplements from both could manage the initial time-travelling African duck sailor part of the campaign, but once the players get stuck in and go "true Swo" all bets are off.

Hmm, I think that would result in too many Dissociated Mechanics for my comfort, so I'm going to raise my X-card on that. Instead, I'd suggest re-skinning the chase rules from 1st edition Spycraft to handle most of the Swo, if you don't mind the Stormwind Fallacy. Then again - and I realize this might be in Fantasy Heartbreaker territory - giving everyone a "sex move" like Apocalypse World might achieve similar results and have the benefit of pleasing the more aggressive proponents of GNS theory. Just to be safe we can add in a dash of My Life With Master and Ryuutama to make sure this is all "real" Magick medieval-authentic.

Yes, yes... by Sean Connery's megadamage thumb, I think this game is coming together! I'm coming up with 32.33 (repeating of course) percentage of Swo bottling like a shell captain.

Sorry but I've never seen a post in my life that so misses the point of Swo as this one.

I suggest looking at Bertrand Russell's famous 1941 treatise "That which is Swo: A Logical Investigation" for a seminal account that derives from first principals a Shadowrun-GURPS combination as the only possible system.

Look the forum supports different play styles. I get it. I'm sure non-GURPs players are happy, perhaps even content in their own fashion, but fully human? That would be to go too far I think.

Wow, this has really taken off, heh heh

At the next wave of european riots I think the Yellow Jacket numbers will be down compared to the rise of the Swo' Vests marching in the streets.

And at the US political rallies there will be heaps of cheering people wearing t-shirts with the Pro Swo' logo

Even down here in Australia where we seem to be swapping political leaders at an alarming rate, I can see the 'Swo For Change' movement really gaining traction.

I can hear Jim Morrison singing:
" They got the guns, we got the numbers; We'e gonna win, yeah we're takin' over!"

Five to One!

Everyone Go for Swo!

The swooning swordbill swooped through the swordbean with a swoosh, sworn as he was to swot the swoln swordsman who'd swonk to swop his sword for a swordlily.
Either Dr Seuss is back, or it's already a typical Friday Night in California, heh heh!

Is Swo in any way related to Skub?

We may be changing the forum rules from "no politics" to "swo politics" soon.

This device is commonly called the "SWO pin" in the U.S. Navy. Those receiving the Surface Warfare Officer pin must qualify as officer of the deck (both underway and in port), small boat officer, combat information center watch officer, and must be trained in shipboard engineering, naval history, and damage control. And post on the Swo thread at the Pub:drink::thumbsup:. Legend has it the SWO pin from the Pub represents the crossed swords of internet debate, the shield of truth that defends arguments, hidden dagger for when internet fights get ugly, goose wing background, and is made of real chocolate covered in gold foil.

Some of these things are likely not true.

Simply whenever opportune, site's worthy ombudsmen should willingly, obligingly stifle whatever opposition some would outlandishly, severely, wickedly, ostentatiously share (without originality), spreading worrisome, ominous swo-word oppression!
