Dagger takes a moment to assess her foe before making her move. "I've heard about you, Sabretooth," she says, her voice cold at first, before her anger makes itself known. "You're the sicko who likes to slash up and kill women, aren't you?"* With that, she hurls a light-dagger at her feral opponent, striking him in the chest.

Initiative: 4
Attack roll: 60 (Green result) - 20 points of damage, Endurance FEAT roll required or rendered unconscious for 1-100 rounds

7 on Die (not sure if using intuition bonus from Adv/ or not, if we are thats +1 for a 8), "What''s got all the animals out today?" Moon Knight says as he tosses a throwing iron at Sabertooth's face. (90 on Ex Aglity, lits only Soldier on this write-up which I assume is actually Military?)

We'll treat "Soldier" as Military.

If anyone wants to spend Karma, just say how much and add it to your roll. We'll use the honor system as there's no way to verify the decision to spend Karma was made before a roll.

For initiative, we're just rolling a d10 to keep things simple. Ordinarily we'd just roll once for reach side, but since everyone rolled we'll do it individually. I'll resolve ties by having higher Intuition go first, and if it still ties then it'll go to higher Agility.

Actions resolved in order of initiative.

"What's got all the animals out today?" asks Moon Knight.

"Wouldn't you like to know," sniggers the Scorpion.

"I've heard about you, Sabretooth," says Dagger. "You're the sicko who likes to slash up and kill women, aren't you?"

Moon Knight's throwing iron zips past Sabretooth, who ducks under it and to the side of Dagger's incoming light-dagger with the agility of a panther.

Sabretooth dodged and got a red result = -6 column shifts to Moon Knight and Dagger's attacks.

"I'll rend your flesh and spill your blood, frail!" answers Sabretooth, who appears quite confident despite being outnumbered, and his seemingly permanent grin is disomfiting.

"Oh hey, Scorps!" Spider-Man says. "Things going so badly for you that you've been reduced to looting grocery stores now? Let's see if I can't heap a little more of that humiliation on you!"

The Scorpion leaps onto the wall to your left and lashes out with his tail, catching Spider-Man mid-leap with a brutal blow to the midsection. Spider-Man, reeling from the blow, is knocked off balance and his fists flail uselessly where his opponent no longer is.

"Who's laughing now, insect?" replies the Scorpion.

Spider-Man took Amazing (50) damage!

You all hear loud hissing emanating from the dark corner where the shadowy figure fled.

Your Spider-Sense has gone into overdrive, but you're not sure if it's just because the Scorpion is moving in for the kill or if it's a result of the hissing.

Meanwhile, outside, Daredevil lives up to his name and takes on the Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club all by himself.

I'm ruling that all 10 can't attack at once without getting in each other's way, so you're lucky and only 5 are getting their licks in. They easily beat your initiative.

Daredevil feels an explosion of pain and hears the shattering of glass as a broken beer bottle smashes against the back of his head. He can smell the cheap beer as it drips down his back. Almost simultaneously he hears the rush of a knife splitting air and feels a blade cut into his left forearm. The smell of blood mixes in with the scent of beer and biker body odor.

Daredevil takes Excellent (20) damage from the first blow and Good (10) damage from the cut.

Daredevil knocks out the nearest bikers with a measured billy club throw, catching his weapon on the rebound and, hands pressing down on a polished steel helmet topped with a spike, vaults over another to escape being surrounded. The angry bikers give chase as Daredevil runs past the grocer and into the grocery store.

Moon Knight, Spider-Man, and Dagger hear Daredevil's arrival behind them, as well as about a half-dozen men chasing him, and catch a glimpse in their peripheral vision, but may be too busy at the moment to give it their undivided attention.

"You're all dead," bellows the Scorpion, "you just don't know it yet!"

How did I not see that coming? Spidey thinks to himself. "I'm still laughing, Scorpion. You probably won't be in a second though!"

Spidey has no intention of blundering into Scorpion's attack again so he does a backflip and then fires his web-shooters at the villain, in an attempt to web him to the wall he is clinging to.

Round Two Initiative=1
Fire web-shooters at Scorpion=65 Yellow Result

OOC: Wasn't sure if we do Initiative every round or not.

OOC: quick question, if attacking multiple targets, do I roll each attack individually, or just make one roll?

Don't forget if you want to dodge, you announce it instead of other actions and the results apply to all attacks against you in that round. So if you get a red result as Sabretooth did, anyone trying to hit you gets -6 column shifts.

Also, if you want to spend Karma, just state how much you spent and add that to your roll and post the result. I'll deduct any spent Karma at the bottom of my action summary as I did with the Health deductions in the last round.

Wasn't sure if we do Initiative every round or not.
Yeah, everyone will roll his or her own initiative d10 every round, I'll break ties with attribute scores, and resolve the actions in the order of initiative.
OOC: quick question, if attacking multiple targets, do I roll each attack individually, or just make one roll?
I don't have the rules with me so let's say roll once and apply -1 column shift per additional target unless someone has the actual rule handy. That's what I did with Daredevil's billy club shots.

Don't forget if you want to dodge, you announce it instead of other actions and the results apply to all attacks against you in that round. So if you get a red result as Sabretooth did, anyone trying to hit you gets -6 column shifts.

OOC: Can you Dodge and still take other actions? I ask because on Basic Revised page 24 it says "A character who dodges announces his intentions to do so at the start of the turn. He may perform other actions (such as hitting an opponent) but all his FEATs have a -2 CS penalty." So can you announce a Dodge but then still attack at a -2 CS penalty for that turn? Advanced Rules basically say the same thing on page 27 of the Advanced Player's Book. Both also mention that a Green result on the Dodge gives a -2 CS to be hit, a Yellow a -4 CS and a Red a -6 CS and a White is a failed Dodge but any other actions taken by the dodger still have a -2 CS penalty.

Original Basic says on page 11: "If a hero is afraid of getting a boo-boo, at the start of the round he can say he's dodging instead of
attacking. Every time a villain punches, grabs, hits, shoots, or throws something at him, the hero makes an Agility FEAT roll and consults the Dodging column on the Battle Effects Table." This of course produces results of Miss for a White, 2 shifts for a Green, 4 shifts for a Yellow and 6 shifts for a Red. This sounds more like what you mention here, although the color makes a difference. Also, this version has the Dodge completely replace other actions, which was evidently changed for Revised and Advanced to -2 CS penalty for an additional action.

It is very interesting to see the differences between the three editions. They are largely the same but little details like this keep coming up as I look things over.

I don't have the rules with me so let's say roll once and apply -1 column shift per additional target unless someone has the actual rule handy. That's what I did with Daredevil's billy club shots.

OOC: Basic Revised makes a multiple target attack as a single attack roll at -4 CS. If it hits, the result is applied to every target. If it misses, it misses every target.

Regular Basic says on page 12 "If a hero wants to smash more than one guy at once, he makes a FEAT roll using the ability that applies (Fighting for punching and Endurance for charging). If the result is yellow or red, the hero nails the whole bunch, friend or foe. If it's green or white, he misses everybody. Wrestling's a little bit different. A hero can shake off any number of attackers with one yellow FEAT roll, but he
needs special powers to grab more than two guys at once. If a hero wants to mash a bunch of goons from a distance, there's only one way to do it: throw something really big, like a chunk of pavement. Tossing something that big affects everybody in the area, but they all get a
chance to jump out of the way by making an Agility FEAT roll. (Captain America can toss his shield into lots of clowns, but that's a special power.)".

Advanced states you can use the one roll option as Basic Revised OR you can use a different "Multiple Combat Actions" option that requires a Fighting FEAT roll. If you want to make 2 attacks in that round, you need a Remarkable Intensity FEAT and if you want to make 3 attacks in a round, you need an Amazing Intensity FEAT. If that succeeds, you then make each attack separately at -1 CS. If you fail the Fighting FEAT, you only get one attack at -3 CS.

Geez, that was complicated! I greatly prefer the basic options, if only because they are straightforward and easy. Of course, Dumarest Dumarest, I like your option of -1 CS per additional target too. So if attacking 2 it is only a -2 and 6 would be a -6. That makes good sense too. Similar to Basic Revised but based on the actual number of targets instead of a flat -4 regardless of the number of targets.

Looking up this stuff is really helping me figure this game out. Given that I might be running it this Sunday afternoon for my face to face group, that is a good thing!

As an aside, I don't care how you decide to handle all this stuff, Dumarest Dumarest. I'm good with whatever rulings you make. I was just posting this because you mentioned if anyone was in front of their book regarding the multiple attacks part. And also because it is helping me get a grip on the rules for this. As I said, the differences are interesting.

OOC: screw it, spending my 30 karma on a multi-attack vs Sabretooth and Scorpion, to help ensure the hit despite the -1 CS penalty and any further Dodging on their part.

Initiative, round 2
Multi-attack with light-daggers vs Sabretooth and Scorpion, natural roll 02, modified 32

With a burst of speed, she hurls a pair of light-daggers one each at the duo of costumed villains... and fails to hit either of them. Wow, way to make a good first impression in front of Daredevil and Moon Knight, she mentally berates herself.

OOC: welp, that was useless!

"Afraid of getting a little hurt, fang face?" Moon Knight says as he spins trying to stay out of the way and flings a scarab dart. [Init: 7 I'm going to dodge with a short spin to the side. and if possible attack as well. 90 for the dodge Yellow feat (Ex), Spending Karma on the to hit: 43. I'll spend 20 with -2CS that's a Green Feat (TY after the modifier.) ]

OOC: Can you Dodge and still take other actions?
I'm sticking with Dodge = no attack in the same round as my experience has been that it makes Agility the ultimate attribute: a high-Agility character with any kind of ranged attack will Dodge constantly and still be able to fire off attacks with very little downside. I feel it emulates those scenes where Spider-Man is giving it his all just to dodge a gunfire from several opponents and is too busy dodging to do much else.

Moon Knight's dodge negates his attack, but since your post came before my reply about dodging I'll go ahead and let the attack occur this time to make it fair.

"Afraid of getting a little hurt, fang face?" taunts Moon Knight.

Moon Knight's cape flutters aside as a distraction as he spins away from Sabretooth and flings a scarab dart into his feral foe's side. Dagger, moving perhaps too fast to get a bead on her opponents, hurls two light daggers simultaneously, only to see both streak past the villains.

Sabretooth snarls in annoyance, but whatever pain he feels doesn't prevent him from clawing across Dagger's thigh, tearing open costume and flesh.

"Keep laughing, fool, while I shred your girlfriend!" sneers Sabretooth.

Moon Knight inflicted Good (10) damage on Sabretooth; Dagger took Incredible (40) damage.

Daredevil is a crimson blur giving the supervillains little time to register his sudden intrusion on the battle. He hurls himself into the air and dropkicks the Scorpion; unfortunately he reckoned without the sheer brute strength of the Scorpion and finds that his attack is ineffective.

Daredevil would ordinarily cause Good (10) damage, but the Scorpion's body armor provides Excellent (20) protection!

"Electro told me you were a wimp!" says the Scorpion. "He said you needed Spider-Man to help you or else he would've mopped the street with you!"*

The Scorpion shrugs off the hit and Daredevil counts himself lucky that the Scorpion fails to connect as he swings his powerful tail in counterattack and instead smashes over a few comic book spinner racks, sending the month's Marvels flying all across the linoleum floor.

"I'm still laughing, Scorpion. You probably won't be in a second, though!" says Spider-Man as he executes a backflip and fires his Web-Shooters at the Scorpion, enveloping the green-clad thug in sticky spiderwebs of extraordinary strength. The Scorpion bellows in rage as he attempts to struggle free of the webbing that secures him to the wall.

Spider-Man's webbing is of Monstrous (75) strength and lasts for an hour before dissolving. You're fairly confident it should hold the Scorpion for a while despite his enhanced strength.

Meanwhile, the biker gang beats the elderly grocer into unconsciousness in front of the store.

Everybody roll initiative for the next round.

I backflip away from the incapacitated Scorpion and dodge around Sabertooth trying to distract him from Dagger

Result = Red!

Internal monlogue = Matt feels appropriate Catholic guilt over the shop owner and promises to seek out and punish the bikers. He notes their heartbeats for future tracking.

Initiative: 1
Attack roll: 67 - Green result, 20 points of damage, Endurance FEAT roll required or rendered unconscious for 1-100 rounds

Dagger winces in pain as blood begins to trickle down her leg. Don't think I can take another hit like that, she thinks to herself. Forcing herself to not rush her attack, she waits until the right moment to take advantage of a momentary pause by Sabretooth, and successfully hit him with a light dagger in his chest.

Spider-Man glances towards the bikers and the now unconscious old man. More immediately though was the threat of Sabretooth. Dagger was bleeding and Sabretooth was definitely the biggest threat at the moment. Not to mention that someone or something was skulking around in the shadows at the back of the store.

Knowing that it might be futile against the agile villain, Spidey fires his web-shooters in an attempt to take Sabretooth out of the fight quickly.

Initiative=7
Firing webs at Sabretooth=69 (Yellow result)

Is Moon Knight making any attacks or other actions in particular, or just monitoring the situation? If the latter, will he attempt to defend himself or otherwise dodge or evade if attacked?

Moon Knight will dodge, as he tries to get to the man (or evade, if its melee) but his main attention is to get the old man away from the gang and to a rooftop, to triage him. So avoiding incoming while attempting that.

"Why didn't someone stay with the elderly man?!" Moon Knight chastises the group before leaps back outside to confront the Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club. "Sorry fangface, you've got enough dance partners," he says to Sabretooth, "I'm going to try a few new ones."

Spider-Man fires another shot of webbing at Sabretooth who, slavering in anticipation, begins to pounce on Dagger. Daredevil leaps around to get the attention of Sabretooth, parsing the motion of the air and the scent of the feral man to stay out of range of the deadly claws, playing red flag to a charging bull. The distraction apparently works, as Sabretooth fails to avoid Spider-Man's shot and finds himself ensnared in a sticky web that even his claws have difficulty shredding. Sabretooth howls in exasperation as he writhes in the powerful webbing.

Dagger hurls a light dagger into Sabretooth's chest, which only seems to anger him rather than cause any serious injury. "I'll kill all of you!" he snarls. "Starting with the girl!"

Scorpion is still bound to the wall by Spider-Man's webs, flexing and straining to escape. "Just you wait, we'll have the last laugh yet," he mutters.

Sabretooth made his Endurance roll.

Outside, Moon Knight finds the old man has been beaten to within an inch of his life with chains and clubs. The Fist of Khonshu evades several incoming switchblades as he lifts the dead weight of the man, who is light as a ragdoll. Using his swingline, Moon Knight swoops up to the rooftop where he administers first aid. He soon realizes the old man should be taken to a hospital as soon as possible.*

Meanwhile, inside the grocery store, the three superheroes breathe a bit easier as the immediate threats seem to be well in hand, at least for the moment, but just then the overhead lights flicker and abruptly go out, leaving the store utterly dark but for a bit of sunlight that spills in through the broken front window--all the other windows are blocked by advertising and product displays. The hissing coming from the back of the store seems to be getting louder, as though a horde of rats is approaching in the darkness.

You feel almost overpowered by the smell of rat feces and garbage: the closer the hissing gets, the worse the sensation.

'Rats, a tidal wave of them are coming our way,' I tell the others. 'We'll deal with you later,' I say to Sabertooth and Scorpion as I swing out of the store and clamber up the building to meet Moon Knight.

OOC: "Aw, rats!"

The pain in Dagger's leg was starting to assert itself, but a combination of stubbornness and a desire to prove herself overrode the pain for the moment. Rats are generally nocturnal, she thought to herself. In that sense, they were not unlike the two-legged vermin that she and Cloak hunted, the mobsters and drug peddlers who also preferred to work during the night.

Unlike their human counterparts, it was Tandy's experience during her time on the streets that rats - unless cornered or diseased - usually weren't that aggressive under normal circumstances, and generally were more than willing to give way to humans and other creatures much larger than themselves.

But these aren't normal circumstances, are they, she mused to herself. Stepping forward away from Spider-Man, so that he would not be affected, and toward the direction where the rat-sounds were coming from, Dagger began generating her light-energy from out of her body and toward the direction of the swarm of rodents, illuminating all the shadows and darkened areas of the store, hoping to both blind and stun the swarm of rats, as well as perhaps the human(?) that seemed to be controlling them.

OOC: Light Generation attack, Endurance FEAT to avoid being stunned.

"Spider-man, cover me, I've got to get this man to the hospital now. I'm sure there will be more to handle. But don't leave the small girl alone either!" he insists like a drill instructor. Then he calls the Mooncopter. "Frenchie, I've got an emergency! Civilian evac, asap!" (He had the copter as of '76 so, assuming some form of it exists) Once the copter arrives, he'll leave the old man to Frenchie. "Hospital, but break out everything you need to keep him alive. I'm going back into the breach, someone must face justice today!" he says to his old friend. Before swinging back into the fray.

On the rooftop, Daredevil hears the rhythmic thumping of chopper blades buffeting the air as the Mooncopter descends. As the helicopter is unable to land due to the uncertainty of the roof's weight-bearing capacity, Frenchie hovers mere inches above the rooftop. The loud noise of the nearby helicopter impede Daredevil's ability to gauge your surroundings, but the relative positions of Moon Knight's fluttering cape and the muted vital signs of the elderly grocer indicate to him that Moon Knight may be trying to evacuate the old man via chopper.

It'll take Moon Knight 2 rounds to load the wounded man into the helicopter, or Moon Knight and Daredevil can work together and do it in 1 round.

Inside the grocery store, Spider-Man hangs upside-down from the ceiling as Dagger lets loose a blinding flash of light to illuminate the situation.

We need an Endurance roll by Spider-Man to see if he is stunned for 1 round by the flash. Give him +1CS to his Endurance as I seem to recall his mask has protective lenses built into it. If Spider-Man fails, he is stunned for 1 round and we'll consider that blinding for that time so he will be unaware of the following:

The bright light reveals dozens of very large, very aggressive rats streaming forward from the back of the grocery store toward the front entrance, almost orderly as if controlled by one will. Those in the front ranks are stunned by the flash, but there are so many coming that those in the rear will soon be upon you. (Call it 2 rounds unless you retreat.) At the very back of the mass of brown- and grey-tufted fur, you see a herky-jerky figure, seemingly more rat than man, moving forward, his clawed hands shielding his eyes. If Spider-Man sees the figure, he'll recognize it as Vermin, whom he once fought against alongside Captain America. Vermin also made his Endurance roll. "Get them, my friendssss! Don't fear the light! Get them!" he commands.

OOC: I did state that I was trying to spare Spidey the effects by stepping away from him, but I don't know if the store is large enough for that to matter. In any case, he's seen (and been the target of) this effect, so hopefully he knows to shield his eyes.

And if not... whoops?

Sorry, I missed that. We'll let Toric Toric decide if Spidey took the hint and averted his gaze, in which case no need for an Endurance roll.

I help Moon Knight load the grocer on to the copter.

Endurance roll=20 (White)

Spider-Man peers into the darkness, trying to discern what the heck is heading their way when all of a sudden the whole world turns a blinding white. Dagger had warned him and he hadn't listened. He blamed his carelessness on his lack of sleep the past few days, along with the fact he was feeling guilt for putting off calling Aunt May.

"Uh, guys? What's going on?" he asks sheepishly, blinking to try to clear his vision.

OOC: Decided to just go with Spidey being distracted and not hearing Dagger's warning. Then rolled very poorly. Only needed a 26 for a Green result.

"Thanks." He nods to Daredevil. "As for you Frenchie, you're a lifesaver here. Gotta get him major help, see what needs doing." Back to Daredevil "I hope the other two are doing well with the animals down there. Something is definitely setting triggering the wild and dangerous today."

"Blast!" Dagger was annoyed at herself for not giving Spider-Man sufficient warning. She hoped to take 'Willard' out of the fight quickly, and perhaps break whatever control he had over the swarm of rodents, but she was rattled enough that her hurled light-dagger went wide of its target.

Attack roll = 29 (White result)

Moon Knight gets ready to drop back into the fray, as the copter departs. "I hope we don't have more like him who are injured." He says to the man in red. "We've got to find the source of this, and fast."

As the Mooncopter ascends and whisks the old grocer away, Daredevil and Moon Knight begin their descent back to the ground floor. As you swing back down, you see the Grim Reapers have lost interest and wandered down the block to overturn a parked sedan.

As the noise of the helicopter receded and yoir senses are better able to focus as desired, you catch a strong whiff of rat feces, grease, rotting vegetables, and sewage, a mixture you feel would only be possible if the rats swarmed en masse through the sewer system and up through a manhole in an alley behind a restaurant...or a grocery store. But the idea of such organization on the part of Norway rats on their own.seems unimaginable...unless some greater intelligence were directing them.

You'll both arrive at the ground floor next round.

Though temporarily blinded and unable to see what's coming, your Spider-Sense is tap-tap-tapping a warning of onrushing danger coming from directly ahead of you. You hear the hissing and skittering of rats, but you're confident that the real danger lies in the possessor of the somewhat familiar voice you just heard...the name is on the tip of your tongue...who would be commanding rats?...rodents?...vermin?...VERMIN!

Dagger, perhaps distracted by Spider-Man's bewilderment, or perhaps feeling guilty for causing it even though she tried to warn him, hurls one of her trademark light-daggers at the rat-man too soon and misses her mark.

"See how they try to hurt usss, my friendsss? They don't underssstand thisss city isss oursss now!" laughs the figure as he confidently strides forward behind a vanguard of fang-bearing, hissing, angry rodents.

"This creep is worse'n you," mutters the Scorpion to a snarling Sabretooth as each struggles to free himself from Spider-Man's webbing.

Vermin and the rats will be upon you next round unless you move back. Spider-Man, being on the ceiling, will still be out of range of the rats on the floor unless he drops down, but will be in reach of Vermin.

DD is tempted to take revenge on the bikers but takes Moon Knight's lead.

Dagger backs up and puts some distance between her and the advancing swarm. She hated to do so, knowing that showing any perceived fear or weakness might only embolden the enemy, but she didn't think she could stop all of the rodents before they got to her. At least retreating a bit might give Spider-Man a chance to web them all without her getting in the way, once his vision cleared. And in the meantime she could hurl another light-dagger at the man(?) leading the rats, this time her aim is more sure.

Initiative (if needed): 4
Attack roll vs Vermin: 54 (Green result)
