The best not-Star Wars movie:

Meh. I've never been too big on that one. I really didn't like it when it was new, but I watched it again recently for the first time in about a decade and I have to say that I've mellowed on it considerably.

Regardless, the best non-Star-Wars Star Wars movie is

is going to alternate Star Wars with Avatar movies every other year for a few years this next decade

Does anyone else think that Rise of Skywalker is gonna pull an Avengers: Endgame thing? That is, some kind of Force neithwerworld where every character from every film will show up in a mega, LAST battle against the forces of eeeevil?

I'm just wondering if it's going to be that gloriously cheesy.

You mean I'd get joy not only from watching the movie but also from watching all the rabid "fan" boys spontaneously combust? Sign me up!

I’d love to see Anakin Skywalker show up again and kick Palpatine’s ass.
Given his recent appearances in Disney property, helping advertise Galaxy's Edge, alongside nerdy media buzz around 'the strongest force user' and his name being thrown into the ring (even John Boyega mentioned him) - I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Hayden didn't make an appearance in some capacity in the film. Maybe aligning Kylo back to the light or something?

Anyway, not too long until Mandalorian drops. I am not holding my breath but it might be entertaining.

I certainly wouldn't have minded him showing up in Force Awakens. I kept on wondering why Anakin didn't just force ghost on up to emoboy and say "Look, the dark side stuff seems pretty wizard at first, but it goes downhill really fast." Answering the question of why Anakin hasn't just shown back up to give a "hey dumbass" speech to emoboy is one of the biggest questions this trilogy needs to give a satisfying answer to.

As a genuine fan of Revenge of the Sith, and of Hayden Christensen, this would actually make me excited to see this film (more than before, I mean).

Hell they already connected the sequel trilogy to the prequels by name-dropping Darth Sidious Plagueis, right?

Edit: mixed up my Sith

Well, Luke mentions Darth Sidious when he taking to Rey in The Last Jedi, and he didn’t go by that name since the last days of the Republic.

Well I am partial to Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. It's obviously fluffy and silly, but before you know you are drawn into the story more than you even expected or care to admit. It put some of the live action stuff to shame.

Lucas considered bringing Obi-Wan and Anakin back to full-fledged life at the end of one of the drafts of Return of the Jedi, IIRC.

Per The Last Jedi, Force ghosts are pretty powerful. They retain their Force powers, maybe even enhanced, and they can also interact with the physical world, perhaps temporarily. I think that was Lucas’ original intent. When Obi-Wan told Vader “I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine”, he might not have been exaggerating.

but but... Midichlorians! how can a force ghost have the force when it has no Midichlorians?

Not serious, Lucas constantly contradicted himself.

Eh, maybe that's the way the Force works in the physical realm.

I think that one of the things I find lacking in the Sequel trilogy is the epic buildup to the duels.

Compared with Westerns or Samurai films, for example. Or, hell, even with the original and Prequel trilogies.

Entire movies built up to the climactic duel between characters. You could argue that they attempted this with the sequel trilogies, but I didn't "FEEL" it, even though I liked the films.

I mean, Revenge of the Sith ain't perfect. But that first shot of Obi Wan when he finally, completely understands that Anakin is doomed, a lost cause, along with the soaring, melodramatic music is perfect. Shit is about the hit the fan. It can be also argued that the final execution wasn't perfect, but damn it, I still felt something.

This one, I mean:

I dunno. I felt the excitement when Anakin’s lightsaber flew into Rey’s hand instead of Kylo’s. They had some moments in the film up to that point.

The Luke and Kylo duel was short but that’s because Luke was just holding out long enough for the Resistance to escape and he didn’t want the facade of his projection to fall apart. But I loved the lines in it.

I thought I read somewhere that the Midiclorians were simply a byproduct of the force and not the cause of it.
I kind of thought that they were simply evidence of the decline of the Jedi order. The Jedi were useing overly scientific meathods to try and analyze how connected a person was to a spiritual energy, and not recruiting the less force sensitive to the order.

The original trilogy on Disney+ looks the best it’s ever been. The colors are more vibrant than the 2011 Blu-rays. The Fox fanfare is back as well.

They should plug that in front of all the movies, whether Fox had a thing to do with them or not. It throws me off big time when Star Wars movies start without it, even more than the non-Saga movies starting without the crawl.

So this, legally, is not available to watch in the UK till March?

Hello piracy!
Or, you know, you can just wait 6 months, just like you can wait 6 months if you dont want to see Rise of Skywalker in theaters and wait for video.

Seriously, what happened to simple patience?

I'm of course not able to watch it...but if I had watched it I would probably have said that I thought it was surprisingly good - much better than i was expecting.

Maybe not wanting to have to dodge spoilers like a trench run on the death Star for six months?

Cinemas exist in the UK, Disney + doesnt, and honestly while I'm sure some will I doubt many are going to want to sign up to yet another streaming service for one show.

I'm not advocating anything, I'm simply stating the obvious. Not making this available to foreign streaming services will just mean people will torrent it. Thy could have done a deal with a different provider. This has nothing to do with patience.
