So I came back home today to see one large box and one very large box waiting for me when I got back. Sure enough, It was Deep Madness by Diemension Games. All the expansions and stretch goals were expertly packed and everything is both beautiful and in pristine condition. I think the Drifter King is my favorite they all look good but I really think they nailed the King in Yellow aesthetic on that one. I will pledge again for Diemension's next kickstarter confident both with the artistic quality of there monster minis and in the care they take in making sure everything arrives safely in one piece.
For those that don't know Deep Madness is a call of Cthulhu-esque dungeon crawler board game set in an underwater mining facility. play is cooperative as the team races to fill objective as the facility begins to flood room by room and monstrous horrors begin to spawn in the claustrophobic sinking facility. Good stuff like avoiding being drown, eaten by monsters, attacked by players driven mad and of course going insane are all wonderfully interwoven elements of gameplay. Basically think of it as the first Alien movie but underwater and turned into a board game. So everything I've ever wanted in a Call of Cthulhu adventure and the good people of Diemension Games went the extra step and made it into a board game.
Honestly, my only regret with this game is I had hoped to have gotten this before Halloween and played it with my group on for Halloween. As it stands now both my gaming group and my book club group are tied up until after new year's. so please I'd love to hear how other people are enjoying Deep Madness and what other Call of Cthulhu or other survival horror dungeon crawlers games they'd recommend.

This sounds right up my alley but I’ve got a backlog of unplayed games to catch up on first.

Deep Madness seems an apt description for this kind of big box KS game

I believe that this is going to be available for retail with only one expansion and like three investigators pieces being kickstarter exclusives (and in all honesty those will probably be repackaged for retail as well). So you can buy the core and then get the expansions by piece by piece like a sensible person. OR if you just want really cool horror minis to paint get the Faces of the Sphere expansion which has the monstrous sides to the investigators pieces when they go mad. all good minis with some being gorgeously eerie, perfect for being boss minis in other horror games.

Seeing a large box atop a huge box filled with really cool horror minis and getting a really well made game tailor made for the survival horror gamer, complete with all the expansions and add-on, all just slightly before it becomes available for retail, yes it was a slightly heady experience:grin:. I have people in my gaming group who used do the special preorder complete season pass on day one video game thing (Fallout 76 broke them of that habit) and they say getting everything promised from a kickstarter is a more rewarding experience for a gamer (yes, they are still quite vocal about their feelings about Fallout 76).

But all this talk of Deep Madness reminds me of a conversation I had during lunch. Where is the Call of Cthulhu skirmish game? Seriously Necromunda came out in I think 1990, a game where player build a small gang to fight other small gangs over a narrative campaign slowly gaining experience and treasure to further customize their gang. It seems like Call of Cthulhu with its multitude of factions extensive gallery of cool monsters and strange powers to equip seem the most obvious fit for this type of game and yet their are no serious attempts at making one. It just seems like such a missed opportunity especially now that 3d printers are even more common.
