Real Life and What's Happening...

Yea, movies 2 and 3 switch between decent action scenes and cringy romance scenes. If the latter were better, the movies would be more popular far better.
The problem with all the prequel movies is that there's not a single character that a normal person would care about. I blame Lucas' dialog - all he cares about are space samurai and space politics. He doesn't care about space feelings.

better CGI
I dunno. I mean, sure the CGI is more advanced, but the way the droids "float" is so haphazard it looks kind of goofy. To me anyway. It would look more "realistic" if the movement was more gracious and efficient.

eh, as someone who really didn't enjoy the prequels at all, I still have to say that McGregor as Obi Wan just oozed with charisma, especially post-Phantom Menace. I think he was under-used and used badly, but it was still a delight everytime he was onscreen

that’s why pub fest 2020 is at your house, along with Sköl and the tiki bar/caraoke bar on capitol hill.
Do you mean Skal the beer hall in Ballard?

Can we do Karaoke at the Yen Wor in West Seattle?

I agree that Obi Wan was the most appealing character of those three movies, but he was still no Han Solo, and it was downhill from there. Nobody else was remotely appealing. The closest would be the Emperor, but as an arch-villain and not a fleshed-out personality with an arc or any of that kind of stuff.

Han and Obi aren't exactly complex characters with a rich inner life, anyway, but at least I can imagine them existing outside the movies. In the prequels, none of the other characters even reaches that low bar. So this is a case where the exception really proves the rule; Lucas is the kind of sci-fi writer who cares about his ideas and images, and his characters are mostly just vehicles for those things.

My experience has been that leaving the Yen Wor vertical is an epic level challenge.

I think this is going to be a very painful morning after....

Just sitting in my dorm after my first day of school. So far, it's going well.

This first week is part of the evaluation process, after that is completed, they'll let me know when I go onto the next phase of my program, since there's waiting lists for different programs.

What program are you going for?

My cataract surgery is scheduled for 6:30 AM tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the time I have to get my eyes operated on.

I went for an eye exam this weekend just to pick up some new glasses, and I've been referred to an optometrist who I'm seeing tomorrow after school because I might be developing a glaucoma. I am genuinelly terrified of losing my sight. I could lose my hearing, sense of smell, sense of taste, even sense of touch, but I don't think I could live with blindness.

I understand completely. I always say though that I’m glad we are living now. If this were 1920, I would still be learning Braille. I’m not saying that being blind is the end of the world. Hardly. Plenty of people go through it, it’s just a big adjustment.

Stay positive. Glaucoma is very treatable.

Oh yeah, I don't mean to imply I'm in panic mode. Worse case at this point is probably that I may have to do medicated eyedrops. IT's just one of those things that freaks me out, just like eye surgery in general, which is what made me think of it. I'm very paranoid about my eyes and fingers.

Damn, good luck you guys, between these posts and previous ones by other Pubcrawlers you make me grateful for my good health. Knock on wood.

I have a friend who has to have regular laser surgery on his eyes because he can't do his job with glasses. That would freak me out, but at least it's sort of a "standard" surgery these days. Not much of a chance of any problems. I'm sure Endless will be fine.

Good news. I completed my vocational evaluation at school with excellent results...and I managed to complete the four-day evaluation courses in two days. They're going to recommend me for the school's business program, since I show an aptitude for clerical and office work and I do like it.

Will be heading back home by Friday to wait for the next phase of the program, as it's a state-run school and there are waiting lists.

You should see all the stuff Barbie has...
