Yeah saw this. Always great but the performances of his that stand out to me, both are with Liv Ullman, are in Bergman’s anti-war Shame and the really intense horror film Hour of the Wolf. He was also great in Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters.

The Max von Sydow movies that stands out the most for me, are The Emigrants and The New Land.
Excellent movies about the hardship of emigrating in the 19th century.

Nice video tribute to Sydow and his memorable turn as an assasin in Three Days of the Condor.

I forgot he was even in that movie. Robert Redford made so many good movies in the '70s. Plus Faye Dunaway in her prime! It's not a bad novel either, but you need to look for Six Days of the Condor, not Three.

Edit: I once swiped the opening for a James Bond 007 game. The PCs were Rookie-level analysts who came back from lunch to find the agency blown all to hell and had to become field ops. None of the players knew the book or the novel so had no idea I stole my "cool premise." :shade:

He had a very minor part as a holocaust survivor and crime boss in Intacto, but I enjoyed the hell out of that movie.

I saw The Exorcist many years after the fact and was pleasantly surprised by how well it had aged. Even with its relatively basic special effects it managed to maintain tension throughout the film and didn't show its 1970s provenance badly at all. Very good. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it.

Necroing this thread to give a heads up about this amazing line-up of films on TCM tonight. So many stone cold classics here that if you haven't seen them you owe it to yourself to check them out. Hour of the Wolf is one of the best horror films I've ever seen.

Missing:
  • The Exorcist
  • Dune
And, of course ...
  • Flash Gordon

A guy who can do Dune, Conan the Barbarian, and Flash Gordon along with The Seventh Seal is pretty cool. Conan and The Seventh Seal in particular had quite an effect on my young brain.

Plus Faye Dunaway in her prime!
Young Faye Dunaway was hot.
