No real world politics intended - purely a joke, aussie style.
None of us Australians are Republicans, Democrats, or whatever inbetween, so no offence is intended here.
If anyone from USA believe this to be anything other than a joke, I will take it down if is is misconscrued)
I really hope they have a plan to deal with the panic buying because it's not remotely sustainable
What is this 'plan' you speak of?I really hope they have a plan to deal with the panic buying because it's not remotely sustainable
I hope the situation 'normalises' however I see no guidance from government on how to deal with panic buying or maintain supply chains adequately. The problem is a vicious cycle as the more empty the shelf the more compelled you are to 'stock up'.The plan is that people only have so much money to spend on panic buying. If you can wait it out a week or two, the store shelves should be in good shape again, maybe with the occasional toilet paper or paper towel clean out. The supply chains are intact and stores are still stocking. They are just behind now because there are more shelves to fill and not enough bodies to fill them. That’s why these stores have decided to cut their store hours back. It allows what employees they have to work quicker without having customers in the stores.
Absolutely.A restaurant in town had to close permanently because they can’t afford to be closed for two weeks. This virus is going to have huge negative repercussions on small business.
Look who's living in a country that still has that fancy-pants social welfare thingy.Absolutely.
I hope the government comes up a package to help everyone.
I just shelled out an ungodly amount in self-assessment tax the other day. Getting my taxes deferred would be handy as well. The US Treasury Secretary said that they have talked about getting checks out to Americans within a few weeks as part of the relief package they are working on. The amount is not yet known, although rumors I read were $1,000 per individual adult and $500 per child. Small businesses would also get funds and loans. Tax payments have been deferred for ninety days past filing.
Fucking sucks. Even with government interventions, this is going to wreck any small business based around people being in the same space together.Harris county, Texas - that's where Houston is, just ordered all restaurant dining rooms to close. Assuming other counties do NOT follow suit this is going to effect 4.6 million people and is almost certain to kill MANY small restaurants. Without meaning to dive into Texas politics I think this is too far. Social distancing is one thing, closing businesses is too much.

Even big businesses are at risk; the british high street has been in a bad way for a long time, and this is going to kill some companies.
The city of Austin and Travis County did too. But they don't have to close, they just aren't allowed to have people eating in the restaurant. As long as it's takeout, they're fine.Harris county, Texas - that's where Houston is, just ordered all restaurant dining rooms to close. They did the same thing here in Portland. You can go inside and order, but it can only be to go. All dining inside is banned
Just an observation of a bizarre but I guess not unexpected occurrence (and probably outing myself...) but I've run into Coronavirus themed Rule 43. O.o
