All this time I was doing a ln(2π) and didn't even know.

Well this thread has drifted so far from Rules Discussion that it is really lost out at sea;
We have sexual comedy, America's Cup, D&D Hunks showing their Junk, and speculation regarding whether Australia exists, or whether New Zealand is pushing that as a smokescreen

So I don't feel guilty randomly posting a mythical aussie anthem by a mythical band who were unsure whether they wanted to do rock, pop, post punk, or ska
It's the typical life for the typical mythical australian

RPG Pub: Thread Drift is Our Thing!!!

Strange how the map has South Sudan, but only half of New Guinea.
For a bit of context, maps that leave New Zealand off became a bit of a meme at one point, and there was a news article about somebody from New Zealand that had trouble at a border post somewhere because the post's map didn't have New Zealand on it, and the guards didn't believe that New Zealand existed.

For those wondering about the provenance of the New World Map, his Arch Levity is an interesting character who has been doing this sort of stuff since the latter part of the 1960s. At one point I was involved in the NZ pacifist warfare scene.

On the more serious topic of rules discussions ... I feel like there's a bit too much passive-aggressive politics-not-politics posting here sometimes. You know the posts I'm talking about: "I'm not going to mention politics BUT ... " where the implication, given the context, is perfectly clear. I feel like some folks take advantage of the no-politics rule because they know that fellow posters can't call them on it without becoming explicitly political, while also taking advantage of the kind, low-key mods we have here. Could we, you know, just not? ...

I know that all three of us do notice that. As far as motivations go, I feel like most of the time it's because people go out of their way to say they are avoiding politics even though they are pointing at that "man behind the curtain". A select few times I do feel like it is blatantly violating the rule here. Most of the mod stuff we do here is behind the scenes and we have talked to a few folks about breaking the rules even though they are well aware of it. Thank you for bringing it up, Theo!

I appreciate that. To be clear, I'm definitely not suggesting a change in moderation. This is more of a call for good-faith posting ...

I'll shut up now.

So, for a while now I've been fighting the urge to post the politics rules for Galaxies In Shadow under the title, "Flagrant Rules Violation."

Said rules can be found in the pdf I posted a link to, it's just, given the current mood out there, I didn't post them directly under an inflammatory thread title.

I don't know if you're specifically talking about me, but I feel as if you could be. I hope I don't come across that smug, because... well, when I say something like that, I am attempting to convey where I stand, by implication-- but I'm not trying to win the argument by hiding behind the mods' skirts, either. I'm trying to confirm what the other person has probably already guessed about where I stand while conceding that I can't press the argument and thus, well, I can't press the argument.

It's agreeing to disagree with the acknowledgment that I don't think either of us is doing so willingly.

It's not something I associate with you in particular FaerieGodfather, a lot of posters occassionally do this - "I can't talk about this because politics, but" - dance and it does drive us Mods nuts, because we're like "then don't mention it then", mainly because it often seems like bait, or a way to express political views on a subject anyways. I don't think we need to call anyone out on it, we just wish that people wouldn't do that.

I wasn't thinking of you.
However, my intention in posting was not to call anyone specific out (much less report anyone), so I don't want to start answering a chain of these "Was it me?" questions from everyone, because the answer will eventually be "Yes: it was you" and that will get awkward.

Look, it's probably a little too political to talk about here, but your opinion is bad and you should feel bad about it.

I've had a few responses that I knew were going toe (or knee) deep into politics and I've debated on whether posting it and acknowledging that made it any better.

And I've probably been about 50/50 on whether or not I went ahead and posted.

I have done that twice myself, but I meant it purely as a "this innocuous seeming topic is in fact political here" as I think people looking up ancient history and myth can not realise how political those topics can get in most European countries and hence how that affects sources etc.

If you're referring to the stuff in the Celtic Myths thread, I don't think any of that is an issue at all

If I realise something I'm about to post is getting into politics, I try to take that step back and not post it.

Yes, politics informs almost everything. And right now, there's a lot to talk about. But there's a time and a place. The Pub is neither.

It can be a hard line to draw, I think I've made the error of referring to offsite gaming politics because it spurs an idea I think we can discuss more productively here. That seems to generally work although I see how even referring obliquely to the offsite politics can be annoying.

I will say that sometimes I think some of us aren't sure where the line is exactly. Like when I tried to avoid posting the name of the game book Can You Brexit without breaking Britain?. I genuinely didn't think it was allowed, people told me to anyway and there seemed to be no issue when I did. (Although that might be that Brit politics are less of a hot potato on here).
