I will say that sometimes I think some of us aren't sure where the line is exactly. Like when I tried to avoid posting the name of the game book Can You Brexit without breaking Britain?. I genuinely didn't think it was allowed, people told me to anyway and there seemed to be no issue when I did. (Although that might be that Brit politics are less of a hot potato on here).
Is that Po-TAY-to or Pa-Tah-to?

I have done that twice myself, but I meant it purely as a "this innocuous seeming topic is in fact political here" as I think people looking up ancient history and myth can not realise how political those topics can get in most European countries and hence how that affects sources etc.

Understandable, given how many Americans don't seem to understand that World War II is a political subject.

I think it's pronounced "CHIPS" ... ;)

BTW, TBC, etc.: I doubt I've been perfect about this over the years either. I'm certainly not objecting to the occasional good-faith lapse. It's more about intentional, serial behavior.

When you’re talking about the politics, yes. When you’re not talking about the politics, then, of course, it isn’t.

I wasn't thinking of you.
However, my intention in posting was not to call anyone specific out (much less report anyone), so I don't want to start answering a chain of these "Was it me?" questions from everyone, because the answer will eventually be "Yes: it was you" and that will get awkward.

Jeez you call one guy literally Hitler and you people never forget.

I could be wrong, but as long as you don't post a link to something that clearly supports something highly controversial like the Flat Earther's Manifesto (substitute an organization people might actually get up in arms over), and in context it is helpful I don't think most would take exception at that. I certainly wouldn't be put off by someone asking if any of our UK members could point out a decent book or article explaining Brexit, so long as it stayed there and didn't turn into a debate on the subject.

Politics are a part of modern (as in setting) gaming so it is inevitable that some legitimate game related politics may appear from time to time. Like gun laws, the merits of gun control / gun ownership are clearly off limits but a discussion of what is generally allowed in a nation seems completely RPG oriented. If our party goes to France can they legally obtain a gun. yes but only single barrel baguette blaster are allowed and there is a robust permit system which can take up to 2 months to process and it costs 500 Francs.

i slipped on that one. I suggested, for home protection, either a dog or a gun depending on laws. That’s pretty innocuous in Texas but it was considered political. I’m more careful now.

Yeah if in real life advice, I can see where that could be an issue for some. However in relation to a game it should be a legitimate discussion, as in how likely is it the PCs could actually run into an armed homeowner creeping around a farmhouse?

Even setting politics should be off-limits here, just look at the Glorantha threads where pro-Lunar scum like Mankcam Mankcam get their views under the radar.
I was oppositionally pro-Lunar during the late RQ3 and HW/HQ era, when the Lunars were more Romanesque and the Orlanthi were more Celtic/Saxon. We were all very much Grungey-Celtic-Folkies in real life, so I had to go against the grain

But now in the G2G/ HQG/ RQG era, the Lunars are more Babylonian/Achaemenid Persian, and the Orlanthi are Thracian/Achaean/Minoan, so I may have swung back to my original RQ2 stance, supporting the Orlanthi claims to the throne of Dragon Pass.

Really confusing heh heh

I mean, the important thing is, unlike some other places, if a person "slips up" here, we're not going to jump down their throat and ban them or anything, so you don't have to stress out about it.
Speak for yourself! I'm gonna go apeshit on that misy!

The one that gets me is Austin. Yeah right that's in Texas my ass!
Texas is actually only a small farming settlement in the Goondiwindi district of the Darling Downs, Queensland, near the rural border with New South Wales.
Not sure why there have been some many Western movies set there, as nothing ever happens in this patch of Australia

I've been to Hollywood. Didn't really see what all the fuss was about.

Gonna chime in my own appreciation here.
I have a hard time with the internet in general and a natural inclination towards hermitry that makes me want to unplug with every annoyance. Over the past six months I've pruned almost all social media from my life - Facebook, reddit, all discord servers I used to participate in. Never did twitter, so I continue to ignore that.
But this place is a nice oasis of mostly enjoyable conversation. The mods do a good job keeping to the spirit of their rules without pursuing vindictive agendas against posters.
I've been here 3 years and haven't seen any drift towards the echo chamber that most forums become as they establish acceptable opinions and sideline all others. The occasional spats here don't divide posters as sharply as elsewhere, so an argument in one thread doesn't spill over into others.
Anyway, I'm not a very active poster but lurk daily, so just wanted to say thanks for providing some interesting discussion to read.

Glad you enjoy yourself here under_score under_score. We like to be as inclusive as possible while being friendly to all as well.

(It's slightly creepy that Youtube brought up this video as a search suggestion given that I viewed it several days ago on a different PC and I'm currently not logged into Google.)

Hmm, to Stigmata or not Stigmata?

Should we allow a discussion of the mechanics of Myfarog, as long as we don’t talk about the racial descriptions?
What about RaHoWa?
On The Site, I’d say sure, let fly.

On the Pub, I’d say talking about games that are purely a political exercise is a No-No.
Banning games isn’t the thing I really want to do either...but I’m not the one making games as political treatises either.

Cyberpunk games are futuristic, dealing with things that haven’t happened yet and are not capable of happening, despite their alt-historical feel. Also, in every Cyberpunk game I can think of, the games do not force the theme of anti-corporate rebellion, they all have rules and frameworks for Rockers, Cops, Medics, Soldiers, Mercs, Techs, Hackers, etc.

This game, however, is not that. The author has made no bones about the fact that they consider this RPG to be political action.

We should take them at their word.

Charity bundles going to Political Action Committees was one thing...this is something else entirely.

The author CHOSE to make the game a political treatise.
The Pub CHOSE to have a No Politics policy. Endless Flight Endless Flight , TristramEvans TristramEvans , and Baulderstone Baulderstone CHOSE to enforce it.

Stigmata should be considered Politics, period, and not be talked about.
Time to bite the bullet and make the hard choice.

I once derailed an RPG session by starting an in-character debate about whether it was slavery to keep giant spiders chained up for silk production, given that we had objective proof they were sentient and hadn't agreed to be there, and also that as the City Watch our duty was to all sentient inhabitants of the city regardless of species. I managed to bring the debate back for multiple sessions of the campaign. It was glorious.
