Can't we just hug it out?

I haven't been able to hug since I was traumatized as a young child by the Hugga Bunch film

Voros Voros is much better looking than that.
There are more... many many more. Do you have any idea how many pictures of Erik Estrada hugging there are? Do a "Eric Estrada hugging" google image search. lol

If being baited is an excuse for going into rage mode or if some arguments are now classified as baiting and so forbidden in order that the offended posters shan't be baited, we can probably burn this place down tomorrow.
Or posters could develop a little patience and self-control and stop getting so riled up about everything.

Wow, an 11 page thread about Moderation over a thread that I didn't see.

Most Moderator Teams would have closed in immediately with a temporary or permanent ban.

Moderators do not generally like their decisions challenged or called out, that is kind of the point of having them.

Maybe the Moderators at RPG Pub are too nice.

Be thankful. It's part of what makes this place great.
This also wasn't so much calling out a decision as it was speaking against the tone of a moderator in their non moderator postings.
I don't see it as being too nice so much as not letting themselves get drunk on power and turning this place into a totalitarian hellhole like other sites.

Under my new modership your insolence will not be tolerated. Submit for reeducation.

Hjonk Hjonk, am goose! Sneaky goose is sneaky.

I'm sorry we have lost a few members over what seems to be a complaint against not enough moderation, but I like it much better this way. I'm much more comfortable being able to tell a mod they are being an asshole, than being sanctioned for daring to question a decision.

As far as Eric Estrada goes, perhaps you would like a nice piece of real estate?

I've been to California Pines and can attest that this is one of his best acting roles.

There are bread mines? Frell me
See, that's the problem with the world today. Parents haven't been sending their children to the bread mines, and so these kids grow up without a proper sense of discipline. Worse, you get conspiracy theory types that insist the bread mines aren't even real...

He used to pimp ocean shores too.

For me, it's not a lack of moderation causing me to drift. It's a moderator who is also a very caustic poster, one of the most abrasive posters on the site in fact. Thats without mod status being considered. Who then self moderates and nobody seems to care about the conflict of interest.

Which has led me to lose respect for the mod team.

You shouldn't moderate a situation you're personally involved in. That's basic stuff.

Unfortunately, the lack of control displayed by one moderator has tarnished the entire team. And the lack of clear response from other moderators has made them look weak.

A similar thing happened on Five Rings Online when I was helping to run that site. And it did huge damage to confidence because it was ignored by the GM team.

Sadly, I'm seeing the Pub become more like sites it was set up as a reaction against. Not in every way, but enough to make me drift.

For the record, I didn't moderate the situation with Silva, other than trying to calm him down before he then imposed a self-ban on himself.

When Steve re-instigated the stuff with Silva, I was not involved with that except as a moderator, and I chose what I still think was the fairest choice, moving the discussion here to site discussion.

And when Norton expressed issues with me as a poster I specifically directed him to this thread because, as I said to him "I can't moderate myself".

So I don't really see what the conflict of interests Steve is complaining about is based upon. But I don't think "losing respect" for the other mods, or calling them "weak" is a very appropriate response.

As for me being a "very caustic and abrasive" poster - I can't say. I think I'm pretty cuddly and generally good-humoured, but obviously I'm biased.

Jesus haven't read QC in years.
It's still OK - it's one of about half a dozen I keep an eye on. Now Schlock Mercenary has finished I'm feeling a gap in my life. Maybe I'll go and re-binge Sluggy Freelance or Girl Genius, although Sluggy Freelance kinda ran out of ideas a while ago.

Unfortunately I agree on Sluggy. And OotS and LFG. QC and LICD are the only two I still check on regularly, and LICD makes me just go every once in a while and run through comments, because if I do it every day, I'll look at the comments. Never look at the comments on LICD.

Stevethulhu Stevethulhu Just so it’s known, whatever Tristram did in modding those situations, I’ve already said I would have done the same thing. I’m the one who warned Silva that he would be thread-banned if he kept it up and I’m probably the most lenient of the three of us. As far as Norton went, I was about to do something there too but Tristram acted first. Each member basically got a slap on the wrist and reacted differently. We as mods just like to move on afterward and give everyone a new clean slate.

On a personal level, I don’t find Tristram caustic. I won’t name names but the most caustic people here are regular members, some of which have been warned before about their behavior.

I’m genuinely curious how we are becoming like the sites we were set up as a “reaction” to. I’m guessing like RPGnet and the Site? There’s no challenging calls at RPGnet. Usually when you do, you are banned. As far as the Site goes, well, that’s something entirely else. You can just read the first page in their main forum to see.

On a personal level, I don’t find Tristram caustic.

I don't think he is extremely caustic, but he can, as I said earlier in the thread, be really dismissive and mocking.

Also, I will just say that, I have had more than one person message me that has not been involved in this thread at all to say they have similar concerns to mine. Clearly since they have not reacted to any posts in this thread or made a post, they do not wish to have their names attached to the issue, so I'm not going to say who.

And honestly not wanting to speak up makes sense. Speaking up can get you labeled really quickly, and if you already have concerns about the culture of the moderation, that is not something you want to happen.

As it is, I already feel like I'll always get associated with this now by many users on the forums. And honestly it has seemed like a giant waste of time. I shouldn't have brought it up at all because I doubt that there will be any change.

Well, I invite anyone to message me if they are concerned about the moderation here. I’ve talked to folks before about individual issues and I don’t hold grudges against these people for coming forward with their concerns.

We have adjusted how we handle certain things based on past experience and feedback. We aren’t perfect by any stretch, that’s why threads like these exist.
