for those of you who expressed an interest. Apparently due out in February. Probably follow it more closely over on the TDM boards

The one on the Chaosium version wasn't so great... but IMO it was much better than this.
Has this been presented as the final version?

It has, AFAIK. Posted on the TDM board

Yeah, cover isnt great, but big fan of the RQ6/Mythras system. I missed the previous discussion on this product, what's the premise? Looks White Wolf-ish.

Urban fantasy. from https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?761895-After-the-Vampire-Wars-at-GenCon!

Supernatural creatures have always lived among us, hidden in plain sight. Even those who knew of their existence were powerless against them, until the US government launched an attack against vampires in 2005, hoping to exterminate them. The elder vampires fought back, demonstrating powers ordinary humans never suspected. The war quickly spread. The vampires held the world hostage for more than two years with captured nuclear submarines. The Wars only ended when a group of vampires betrayed their own kind and helped to destroy the monsters who sought to control the world.

Today, the supernatural is widely known. There are vampire celebrities, psychic security consultants, and half-fae contract lawyers. Previously hidden magics and strange powers now launch YouTube superstars.

In this new era, humans and supernatural creatures are building a new world together. But the old world lingers - predatory fae lurk in the Otherworld, feeding on dreams and possessing the unwary, while fanatic vampires and humans both work secretly to restart the war. This is the world of After the Vampire Wars.

it has apparently been reworked to Mythras, but otherwise in the same space. The author has stated that he's planning on putting out a bit of cyberwear after this has been released, supposedly to complement it. I'm under the impression that it could be reworked into a superhero thing a bit. https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.ph...mpire-Wars-at-GenCon!&p=19245543#post19245543 gives me that impression.

Both are pretty lackluster in my opinion. Vampiric magician in a warehouse vs. elven/fae(?) celebrity protected by security?

I'm not into urban fantasy, but if I was, neither of these covers would convince me to buy the product.

I have never bought a book simply based on the cover art. In fact, looking at cover art takes me approximately 2 seconds, while I open the book and look inside, or check the preview.

I have judged a book (Rpg) by its cover before. In some cases, the cover has so inspired me that I've purchased it without reading the contents. (RuneQuest 3e, released when I was a teenager, and also shrink-wrapped at the store I bought it from. WFRP 1e, too). In other cases, a cover has turned me off to an Rpg, because the artwork looks so amateurish and ridiculous that I'm dubious of the contents (frex, a number of Mongoose releases).

The cover(s) along with his passing mention of doing cyberwear really does give it a surprisingly Shadowrun like feel to me. I was less interested in the world of darkness angle, but Shadowrun I think has a bigger appeal for me.

I like Mythras, I like John Snead, but somehow this one doesn’t grab me. Looks like The Vampire Diaries (didn’t watch) meets Shadowrun (never did play) without the cool bits (guns, cyberware, more guns, vehicles, big guns, the Matrix, some more guns).

I love me some gun porn, and really love those all equipment books for Shadowrun that have all the commentary in the sidebars. I also feel like it’s a dangerous trap. Some of the factors and variables in the weapons seems like they are there only for providing a mechanism to have different guns. Which... well, kind of good side/bad side. Good because more gun porn. Bad because more complexity and more charts to keep track of.

I never did play Shadowrun but I was a big Rifts-head back in the 1990s. So I love me some gun pr0n. I’ve been missing quality gun pr0n since then.

I read the Chaosium version of the book and liked it quite a lot especially in conjunction with Enlightened Magic. However I got a very True Blood / World of Darkness feel for the book. It didn't remind me of Shadowrun at all (though with the new cybernetic rules coming out why not)...

I definitely got the True Blood feel from it, though sharing more in concept and less in execution. World of Darkness if a lot of creatures have come out into a, relatively open, existence.
I'm way less interested in the potential for a Shadowrun/cyberpunk action angle... but something more like a modern day take on Cast a Deadly Spell, hardboiled detectives negotiating a quagmire of bizarre new factions (as well as the pre-existing ones), appeals to me.
Or, taking a note from True Blood, have an agency focused on tensions between revealed creatures and lingering hate groups wanting to eradicate them... keep the lid on new wars.

Yeah Mythras is a great build of BRP for crunchy combat. Not sure if this is the best setting for it, but it does speak volumes in presenting Mythras as a generic setting rather than RQ6/Fantasy setting, much like they have done with Luther Arkwright.

Game of Thrones or Hyborian Age settings would be a perfect match for how Mythras plays, but those licences are taken and obviously too expensive for a small company to even consider.

If they are going to move beyond fantasy, then a tactile system like Mythras may be served well with a gritty military combat setting, much like Savage World's Weird Wars or something like that.

I'll probably grab this urban fantasy setting in pdf to support the company and also to peruse it. If it does look like something I can run then I will buy the hardcover book as usual, but I'm just not sure if this is the kind of setting that I will play with Mythras.

Time will tell.

The new cover seems like a kinda-almost attempt at redoing the Enlightened Magic cover:

Since it was the intended magic system for the original version of After The Vampire Wars I'm curious how much of it Mr. Snead will bring over for this new book.

Isn’t Chaosium still selling Enlightened Magic?

Without going and looking, I'd assume they are... I see no reason why they wouldn't.
But I'm also thinking that since it was the magic system for Mr. Snead's Vampire Wars setting that the new book might have some version of it.

That's a pretty nice cover.

To be fair, I'm not into urban fantasy either, I didn't even realize that was the new name for "sad sexy vampires," but at least this cover has action and makes me wonder what's going on, what led up to this moment, and what will happen next, whereas the other one is pretty static and dull.

So true...I've bought plenty of books where I'm almost embarrassed by the cover art. Blood of Heroes comes to mind...
1517607658.jpg ...simply screams Bad '90s Comic Book, doesn't it? I bought it for some new powers and rules for DC Heroes as it is the same game under a new name and loaded cover to cover with truly terrible artwork.

And, having read through a fair chunk of it, I would not characterize it as sad sexy vampires. It claims to cover a large number of campaigns, and the writing has none of the moodiness one might expect from sad sexy vampires. Though, it does admit to using True Blood as an inspiration. The book setting deals with the vampire wars that happened recently, and how people are slowly coming to terms with the fact that the supernatural exists. Not everyone knows yet land most who do still think it is a minor threat.

One of the worst titles for a supers game that I could possibly imagine too.
