Geez, I finally got a shiftleader to make sure people spread out properly during breaks, setting a limit of max three people per table. I've been advocating for this since the first partial lockdown just ended...
They've made wearing either a mouthmask or a even less effective plastic facemask mandatory - except at a table during breaks and behind office desks - and are quite strict about people sticking to this measure. So I argued that it was dumb to not be equally strict about something that is much more effective than wearing masks: sticking to keeping 1.5m distance. Until now they had been unwilling to do this during breaks, for some reason that was never explained to me.

There have been a few isolated covid cases at work, but no spreading. We're allowed to stay home sick at the slightest of symptoms and people who have been in contact with confirmed cases go into a preventive10-day quarantine.

OMG

So new thing I've learned during Quarantine...

I can cut my own hair!

I just got sick of waiting for the barbers to reopen and finally took a pair a sheers to my head, fully expecting it to require me to wear a toque for a month or so. I'd internalized this idea from my childhood that it was impossible to cut your own hair it would just come out all patchy and uneven, but after 20 minutes in front of the bathroom mirror....my hair looks good! It's absolutely fine!

This. Changes. Everything.

Yeah I have been cutting the boys and my hair. It's pretty sweet because that saves me about $50 a month.

I haven't paid for a haircut in, hmm, maybe 15 years? Clippers and a little detailing with the scissors and I'm dandy.

My wife got all excited about being thrifty for a second and bought some nice Wahl clippers and shears. She cut hair one time and gave up. Covid hit and I learned a new skill.

Did she cut her own hair or someone elses? I always cut my own hair, and I uaed to cut my boys' hair, but they're of an age where they want something a little more stylish than I can manage. I get that. It does take some practice, but not as much as people think.

No she just wasn't happy with how she did on the boys hair. I'm more forgiving if myself while learning a skill. Also if I screw up she can blame me to her friends.

That sounds like some solid husband thinking. Congrats.

Way to rain on our DIY parade, party-pooper.

Welp, one of the 1st quarter students at my school has tested positive for Covid-19. Class was cancelled today so that the faculty can consult with the Dean. The individual that tested positive had a test last Wednesday that came back negative. But that was one of the less accurate 15 minute test. Thursday they dined at the student run restaurant. I know for a fact that the teacher in the dining room has not been enforcing the mask rules very strictly and has even flaunted them himself.
I am in the kitchen as a line cook for the student run restaurant, so if one of the servers who takes off their masks in the kitchen caught it then I might have gotten it from them.

My brother occasionally works on ships. He had to go to a ship last week and despite precautions came back with it.

It's making a comeback folks.

Quit it, 2020, QUIT IT!

But wait, there's more...

Classic malformations. Nothing new under the sun.

Not here; can’t make a comeback if it’s never left. (Still in decline but still counting daily cases by the thousand. Five months in decline and counting. Slow burn)

Here the number of cases is in decline at the moment. Seems like the partial lockdown is working. Again.

So cases, deaths, hospitalizations are all exploding in my state (Ohio) and my county has hit the highest/worst rating for severe spread so our court is going back to work from home and zoom hearings except for emergency hearings until the end of January.

It's a little confusing where I live, because the City of Chicago has different measures in place than the state of Illinois. Both the city and the state are in the midst of a huge surge in cases, so measures have gotten more restrictive. Doesn't really affect me much, as I pretty much just go to work daily, go to the grocery store as needed, and go walk or run in the Forest Preserve when the mood strikes me. And I do a whole lot of online RPGing.

But I would sure love for this to be over and have the option of doing other things.

Apparently numbers are slightly on the rise again... which means no less strict measures around the holidays. People shouldn't be so lax if they want to spend x-mas with family.

One of the ironies of Covid for us, is my wife only recently developed an interest in travel. Late last year, early this year we were talking about some places to visit, and then bam, Corona lockdown.

I have a thing in that "I like travel, but I don't like paying for travel". Which was cool because my job started doing a lot more work on the convention circuit last year which meant a lot more company paid travel... but you know, then COVID. The last time I went anywhere was PAX East in March.

My ex-gf loved the planning for travel far more than the actual traveling. She did like traveling, the planning was really where it was at for her. I bet she's having a ball planning all sorts of trips for when this is over.

I like travel. I'm looking forward to when it's feasible to go back to WA [sorry, that's Washington State, in the northwest corner of the US, for you non-US folks] to visit my family, and go to other countries, which I've really enjoyed the handful of times I've done it.
