. I've never met anyone with an actual interest in the occult in all my years of roleplaying (not that I knew of, anyway),

(raises hand) oh, I'm very interested in the occult. I've done a ton of studying of different magical traditions, the tarot, etc.

But I'm not a believer...

I've known quite a few pagans, witches, and dabblers. As a young guy from a very religious background it really disturbed me at first. There is was, the infamous connection between D&D and the occult. One of my friends, who was the head of the local neo-pagan society was murdered and that threw me for a bit of a loop but it also gave me a chance to get to know many of his friends better and broadened my mind.

It's a funny thing, I'm still religious, and a believer, and I don't believe in magic even a little bit. Still, I try to be respectful of the delusions of others as long as they're respectful of mine.

I don’t believe in most things and I’m not superstitious, but I am scared of Ouija boards. I would never play with one or have one in my house.

I dated someone who was a Pagan, and my daughter's boyfriend is a Wiccan. But yeah, I never been a believer, even if tangentially interested...

I don't even believe in ghosts, though I've gone ghost hunting a few times for grins.

I’ll have to tell you guys stories that were passed to me about the house my mom grew up in. All kinds of strange stuff happened.

I've spent a night in a "haunted house"

I'd love to see a ghost.

I can't imagine it being scary - confirmation of life after death would be like the happiest thing to me

I feel the same way about Troll dolls

I don’t know if you who Sylvia Browne was. She was supposedly a psychic and said that there were little people who came out at night from underground and checked out peoples houses at night. I guess it was a question she got from somebody who saw little shadows outside their window at night.

Or the worst. Are invisible relatives really watching me constantly? Like... in private? Shudder. Maybe I'll carry holy water, salts and protective amulets when I makeout with my wife.

I don’t think they care much at that stage in life.

But my momma told me that my relatives are invisible angels watching over me all the time!

Yeah that fucked me up. Not because "ghosts are scary" but because "invisible relatives are potentially watching me all the fucking time". Who needs that?

Probably why I ditched church eventually. Like my friend who's an ex-Jehovah's Witness: he doesn't follow that faith anymore because technically he'd already have a ticket to Hell, so why bother believe in that anymore?

I’ll

I’ve read many times that entities on other planes have to exert an appreciable amount of energy to come to our side and can’t just take a peek any time they want. The stronger the entity, the more they can do it.

That's a huge effing relief

About 4 years ago I took an anthropology class on Witchcraft and Supernatural practices around the world. Our teacher brought in one of his students from another anthropology class, and the guy told us his story about using an ouiji board, his story was fairly similar to other "We messed with an Ouiji board and got in way over our heads". But one of the stories was that the guy and his roommate had a package of oreo's sitting on a coffee table in his living room, and after a week of "Paranormal" experiences, they discovered that, and I quote, "The Ghost ate our Oreos!!!". My own personal theory is that they ate the Oreos while they were high on pot and forgot about it.
Moral of the story, don't mess with an Ouiji Board while high, or you'll eat your oreos and think that a Ghost did it.

A friend of ours owns a haunted house that is a B&B and they run ghost hunts. One time, they were having this big spectacle, and my wife and daughter were all into it. Apparently, I fell asleep and let out a snore and they thought it was a ghost... they stopped inviting me after that.

The name doesn't ring a bell. Psychics are the one area of the supernatural/occult I've never had much interest in, I just seem them as stage magicians/charlatans at best, preying on people's misery more often.

I'm getting a B sound.....something B, maybe an S......something BS.....it's clearer but still not quite there.....

Totally agree. My ex believed in that stuff, and thought that she and her son had both been cursed. One time when he had an outburst, she had me out at 3AM looking for a psychic that was open so she could have a reading...

I was sitting in on the session, and she was saying stuff and at first I was like scratching my head, but didn't want to say anything. But finally, I got the game and started saying the things she was going to say as she was saying them. I wasn't invited back to any sessions after that one...

As long as there's sex, drugs and skyclad dancing round midnight bonfires, I can live without the religious and spiritual bit.

I try to stay open-minded about it, but I've never had a paranormal experience. Footsteps in the night are likely to be coming from a neighbour's home because our houses have a fully-paved forecourt between them.

Working in healthcare I've had more experience with medical-related pseudoscience. Those people have always struck me as simultaneously credulous and incredibly dishonest.

I masturbate harder when I think ghosts are watching
So that's how you explain the ectoplasm.

Anyway, there's a fair tradition of witchcraft in the women of my family, from my mum's side; either it passed her by or she rejected it (And I suspect it's the latter), so I guess that's me now, and one day it'll be my daughter. I'm a practical person, so that's what most of my magic is; mostly protection stuff (My home is very well defended), but desperation also encouraged me to take up tarot cards and I can read those okay.

I'm not a believer outside of certain religious beliefs, I'm actually a pretty strong skeptic. Example: Why do ghost hunting shows always in "modern" houses and leave the lights off, and use nightvision cameras? It's all about manipulating their watchers. I don't think ghosts have that much fear of the dark. I LOVE the idea of serious parapsychology and cryptid investigations. Not Bigfoot, but more about looking for animals we've not yet cataloged, or think or extinct that might not be, however, I do believe we hold them to a certain level of scientific testing rigor.

I used to be an interested non-believer myself, viewing serious occult practices as a kind of self-imposed paradigm shift to achieve desired results. I very much enjoyed Liber Null & Psychonaut. Now I just don't have the time or interest.
