As opposed to a game derived from just Robert E. Howard stories, I'd like to see one using material solely from the Marvel comics and magazines:

(With rules written from the ground up to emulate the genre and setting.)

(I half-assedly wrote most of one once called The World of Aard , but it sucked and I was never satisfied with the results.:crap: I still have a PDF of it on the PC I almost never use...it's chock full of copyrighted artwork. :hehe:)

You mean like this?

Could probably just use Traveller, but a standalone game or Traveller setting book would be neat for Trekker . I like the earlier stories better than what Ron Randall has done lately, but his artwork is always top-notch.

Just the mention of Jason of Star Command sent me over to YouTube to give it a watch. Look a lot like Star Frontiers to me... the sort of setting where you'd have pinstripes on your moon bus.

Although there was an official BESM-based game for it released back in 1999 (which I do own a hard copy of), I'd love to see a new Sailor Moon RPG.

Especially with the release of Sailor Moon Crystal, the Viz redub of the old anime, and full English releases of the manga, combined with the wave of general late 90's nostalgia that is popular among Millennial geeks, I'm surprised no company has even attempted to re-license Sailor Moon for tabletop RPG's, though from what I hear, Mark C. MacKinnon is rumored to be getting back into the game design industry with a new iteration of the Sailor Moon Trading Card Game, so maybe there is hope yet for either a new Sailor Moon RPG or better yet, a revival of Big Eyes Small Mouth (though I am not holding my breath).

Try looking up Space Academy too. Same universe, but the moonbus is school bus yellow.

When I was trying my hand at game design - before Mongoose jumped the shark with the TAS program - I had an idea for a Traveller setting based on Space Academy with an anime twist.

Y'know, I almost wonder if Ark II, Space Academy, and Jason of Star Command are set in the same universe. It wouldn't surprise me.

But, to avoid derailing things, I'd be interested in a Rom/Micronauts RPG...

I have very vague memories of this one but haven't seen it since I was a kid.

Huge Buck Rogers fan, the TV show is camp heaven.

Didn't know such a thing existed!

One of the few manga I've read, and am fond of.

I could easily use Jovian Chronicles for this, but what the heck, why not a dedicated setting book for Planetes.

Perhaps so. I don't own Orbital.
I don't have Orbital nor have I read Planetes, anybody want to describe Planetes and why Orbital would be good for it? Or not good for it?

anybody want to describe Planetes
There's a wikipedia link about Planetes in my post. But, here's an excerpt from that page:

Planetes is a Japanese hard science fiction manga written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. It was adapted into a 26-episode anime television series by Sunrise, which was broadcast on NHK from October 2003 through April 2004. The story revolves around the crew of the debris collection craft, Toy Box, in the year 2075.

Plot
The story of Planetes follows the crew of the DS-12 "Toy Box" of the Space Debris Section, a unit of Technora Corporation. Debris Section's purpose is to prevent the damage or destruction of satellites, space stations and spacecraft from collision with debris in Earth's and the Moon's orbits. They use a number of methods to dispose of the debris (mainly by burning it via atmospheric reentry or through salvage), accomplished through the use of EVA suits.

The episodes sometimes revolve around debris collection itself, but more often the concept of collecting "trash" in space is merely a storytelling method for building character development. The members of the Debris Section are looked down upon as the lowest members of the company and they must work hard to prove their worth to others and accomplish their dreams.

Ongoing plot elements include an upcoming exploratory mission to Jupiter on the new fusion powered ship, Von Braun, and the lead character's decision to join the mission, no matter the cost. Many other plot threads are also developed throughout the series that help to explain each character's motivations and personalities. The Space Defense Front is a terrorist organization that believes mankind is exploiting space without first curing global problems such as mass famine and the widened socio-economic divide on Earth.[2]

That reminds me that I'd always wanted to do more with Crystar
latest

I say 'more' because I did have drag it into my old Gamma World campaign, but having not read but one of the comics it was actually a lot more like Tron... so maybe I should just say Tron instead...

Crystar looks cool, surprised I didn't know of it as I was a big Alpha Flight fan as a kid.

Well, no reason you would as that was just a marketing crossover and Crystar was a toy line with its own short-lived comic book. I had a couple issues. I think the bad guys were lava people and I seem to recall their leader was named Magnor or something similar.

Another of mine would be Ultraman

Though, really, what I'd want is a Science Patrol game that had some mechanism for calling on giant alien heros to fight off Kaiju menace... but was mostly street level action... which all ties back into my desire for a giant Andersonverse game, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet AND Science Patrol... Kaiju controlled by the Mysterons. Mostly an espionage game... but with mecha and kaiju for the big climactic battles.
Makes sense to me.

I think I have issue #1. Not sure if I grabbed any after that. Although come to think of it I might be thinking of Sectar or something similar.

Yes, please:grin:

I read an interview somewhere years ago where it was stated that the second of these began life as a script meant to be a sequel to the first, then got changed around when the first failed to score at the box office, so in my mind they're always at least in the same world.

And no, the "vaporware" game G.M. Skarka has supposedly been working on for nearly a decade doesn't count, since (1) it's never going to exist and (2) even if it miraculously appeared, I won't buy anything with his name attached now.

I loved those comics. Especially the cover art for Savage Sword of Conan!

Big Trouble in Little China was a Western in the original draft, with Jack Burton being a cowboy who rides into San Francisco. The stolen truck was a stolen horse, etc. The studio didn't like the Western element, as that was considered box office poison in the '80s. The original screenwriters was pissed and refused to do a modern rewrite, so W.D. Richter, the writer and director of Buckaroo Banzai, was brought in to do the job.

This is a cool cold-war-like parallel-worlds sf thriller, all people talking softly in dark rooms til someone is suddenly shot in the back of the head.

J.K. Simmons is awesome in this but I assume everyone knows that by now.

I had no idea this existed! Adding it to the growing queue of things I should watch.

I'd like to see another iteration of Dune. I know one was published and then abandoned by the publisher almost immediately, but it would be nice to have another Dune rpg that collectors aren't pushing the price up on. That one could be amazing, for all I know, but I don't have that kind of cash.

I'm guessing that the price to license a Dune RPG is out of reach at the moment considering that FFG had to re-skin the classic Dune board game in the Twilight Imperium setting when they re-released it. If FFG can't afford Dune, I can't imagine that a lot of other companies can.

Yeah having lived through the 70's and 80's my life experience directly contradicts your assertion. In the 70's I watched banana splits, the buggaloos, and any number of shows with zero toy tie ins. The eighties changed all that. Suddenly it was all he man, gi Joe, transformers and show after show based on toys.

And don't forgot Dungeons & Dragons. Seriously. I haven't bought a He-Man or GI Joe in decades. But I'm still buying D&D. The first taste was free and now all these years later look at the amount of money I've spent on RPGs. Damn you Uni. Damn you.

Oh wow, I never knew that. I've seen that game around, but never realized it was a re-release. And now there's a new film adaptation coming (directed by Denis Villeneuve, so I'm cautiously optimistic!), it probably won't be any cheaper.

I almost bought the Dune RPG at Gen Con when it released. Now it is over $300 used. I still have the Last Unicorn catalog with all the books planned for the line that were never released.

I just need to get to the alternate universe where Firefly wasn't cancelled, Ronnie James Dio didn't die of cancer, the Dune RPG flourished, and Scooby Doo was a zombie survival cartoon.
