That's one for me too. And I never played the DLCs and want to. I might give in eventually.
The problem could be fixed if a larger stable of characters was allowed. I find the cap of 20 characters to be very limiting. I am all for challenge but the cap makes experimentation with different characters into a logistical hassle and time sink.

I am close to wrapping up Horizon: Zero Dawn and the story has been most satisfying so far. I wasn't exactly crazy about playing a teenage girl but over time I grew to admire Aloy's bravery, compassion, and intelligence. I think it helped that the Aloy's appearance was refreshingly plain and understated for a video game heroine so her strength of character was front and center instead of her looks. This is one of those games that would be absolutely ruined by spoilers so if you give it a shot try to avoid them if at all possible.

I bought my first John Tiller Software game a few days ago. Napoleonic Battles: Campaign Waterloo. Been learning my way around it and focusing on some of the smaller scenarios. I've tried to lead d'Erlon's I Corps up the ridge a half dozen times, but those damned British are really crack shots. It's been a bloody, grim affair.

Terribly addictive though.

Even though I've got a backlog of various strategy games I want to do, lately its been the comfort food of Master of Orion 2, or XCOM: Enemy Within with the Long War mod (though I keep getting into unrecoverable death spirals with that, but that's not uncommon for me with strategy games I'm still getting my arms around).

I am glutton for punishment, and have been wasting time on Wasteland 2 again. My new reasons to hate it are:

  1. There’s a quest involving two radio units, one of which needs to be fixed. Instead of using the radio items I have to fix it (similar to other quests), you either have to do a quest that glitched out on me (which the internet tells me others have experienced) or have one skill super high and use it with no prompting. Lucky for me I had a character with a fair amount of the skill, and enough saved skill points to spend to raise his rating to the point I had a chance of success....Guess I’m screwed when it comes time to buy the skills I’d saved those points for.
  2. So apparently the game expects you to finish the radio quests in a certain order, and I did it in reverse. So my topkick gives me upgraded radiation suits and tells me to go north, and that’s when I find out they are not strong enough to protect me and my party dies. He’s also directing me to a place not on my maps, so I think I was to have the rad suits upgraded again, and have the location revealed. Not sure how to proceed.

Hmmm. If this is the initial quest, I don't recall either of those problems. Its certainly possible to get to the water station with what you're given if you go the right way. Unfortunately, its been a while (later on I stalled out because of some difficulty issues, and I tend to lose momentum in CRPGs anyway), so I can't give more detail.

This is after the helicopter ride.

I used to play Titanfall II multiplayer and I was a fan, especially with the Frontier Defense co-op. But I just started playing the single player campaign mode. I'm about 3 chapters in and just completed a pretty cool sequence where you time travel in and out during jumps/obstacles/fights.

Man, I really hate when these exploding drones swarm:

The single player mode main character, Cooper, is voiced by Mathew Mercer from Critical Role.

Path of Exile is literally unplayable. You can't log into the game, at all. Which is a bummer, because I wanted to try the new expansion.

Okay, must be well beyond anything I ever got to.
I found a guide that seems to indicate it’s a glitch, so I’d have to backtrack severely on my saves to give it a go again.

i’m an idiot for giving this game another chance. I may try and figure out how to edit my save file, but it’s not something I have much experience with.

It just confused me because it sounds a lot like one of the earliest quest sequences in the game, but from the sound of it, its not that.

Yeah, I think they had two “Attach repeater units” quests to cut down on creating unique assests.

i understand Wasteland 3 has recycling of Wasteland 2 assets to a surprising degree.

My brother gave me a go with VR and good headphones once. Scary as hell!
Haha if I played this in VR I would probably be heart stroke by now!

I struggle hard to play these kind of games. I dropped both Alien Isolation and Resident Evil 7 midway because it was too scary and oppressive for me to handle. I dread at the idea of playing em in VR.

I've been playing Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners in VR and it's a lot scarier than the show ever was. And Metro Last Light... don't even get me started on that one. Even just on the large screen it was something. Add VR to that... yeah.

I completed Alien Isolation back when it came out, I can't imagine it in VR!

There's always a balancing act with those games. They're terrifying and drive you to learn how to avoid the Alien, at some point though you just start to intuit its AI which was quite simple and then the game became a bit repetitive. And since the Alien kept coming it became more annoying than scary.
Had the AI being a little more complex and unpredictable it would have been much better. There's a mod that makes exactly those changes and it is very frightening:

I loved Alien Isolation but sucked so hard at the stealth. I need to go back and finish it.

My son got into Final Fantasy XIV because of some of his friends. I had the week off from work (going back on Monday) so I've decided I'd no life it a bit.

It's a relaxing game. Kind of the thing I think I want from it. Not too complicated, enough stuff to do, has legitimately the best controller setup for any MMO I've ever seen (I have wrist issues, so if I can play a game without using the keyboard/mouse, I will). Fun for just dicking around for a bit and destressing.

Field of Glory II: Medieval was released a couple of months back and it's glorious. Computer wargame, but the play-by-email function is a most civilised way to play. A turn each evening after work.

Arma III otherwise, we're starting to build scenarios and tinker with the editor and GM'ed options. It's a multiplayer modern warfare simulator on some BIG maps (10s of km), and you can play anything from a rifleman to a jet pilot.

It's more of a lifestyle than a game at this point, with several DLC (latest is alien contact), thousands of mods, including Star Wars and Halo assets, and scenarios. There are hundreds of units/clans playing regularly.

Tonight's game for my group was "Escape from Altis". Basically, evade the enemy and escape from an occupied island (based on the Greek island of Lemnos). We did ok, dodging patrols or engaging them, and avoided a fortified village. Sadly, we decided to search an "abandoned" farmhouse for supplies. An enemy unit and an APC were stationed there, and they saw us before we saw them... only a mile from an airstrip too.

I used to play in an organised group for A3 - co-operative with a zeus managing AI, and PvP scenarios. Structured games and such. It was a lot of fun! I could refer you to them if you're interested in a larger group.

Thanks for the offer Smith Smith We're all still very much in noob/casual territory, but I may come back to you on that!

don't worry, this group is casual friendly - no "yes sir no sir" milsim nonsense! But always open to recruits

In the heat of my initial jump back back into Vermintide I got the link to the Chivalry 2 beta...

I'm still practicing - but holy hell it's fun.

It's like a cross between Bushido Blade and Battlefield.

Edit: And I didn't realize the video was picking up on the music I was listening to. I usually play music while I'm pvping. And so Conan Exiles was on tap. Unfortunately it made me look like a dweeb with epic music going on and me getting my skull crushed in.

I want a show where Charlie visits the Trailer Park Boys, and they roadtrip to Schrute Farms to go werewolf hunting with Dwight and Mose.

I just picked up Total War: Rome Remastered, which is an update of the original Rome Total War (my favorite of the series). I got a discount, since I own the original. It took a really long time to download for some reason, and it is kind of slow to load when I start the game up (and twice it didn't open). Not digging the new graphics. I also need to see if I can adjust some things, because the text from the advisor seems smaller than the original version does.

I am playing the Roman-British, who start with no city, so I had to start a war with the Western Romans by taking Londinium. Once I did that though, things have gone ok. But not sure it's really better than the original though

Have they fixed the over population/dissatisfaction thing for city management? That's what killed it for me - eventually the population increase would override any and all attempts to keep the populace happy.

Great breakthrough game back in the day. I have enjoyed them all since Shogun 1.

Currently being addicted to Total Warhammer 2. Have done campaigns as all 3 flavours of Elf, Empire & Norsca. Currently striking out grudges as the Dwarves.

I haven't gotten that far into the game as of yet, as I was playing it on and off. With the slow loading of the game (and battles are slower to load as well), it takes awhile to accomplish things. Of course, I cheated a little and gave myself some extra gold early on, which I used to bribe a few celtic generals to defect to my side. Since I was at war with Rome, I sent a fleet around with one of them and an army, and took Massilia (which was in rebel hands after being sacked by the Vandals). Using that as a staging area, I attacked Rome itself (which had a shit army in defense that my spy found). Took the city when they came out to fight, and then held it against two attempts by the Ostrogoths to take it from me so far. But it's still under 15000 population, and was built up enough that making the races daily kept the order over 100 so far. But time will tell.

It's been a long looong time since I've actually gamer raged, but holy hell I queued for two hours for a raid that is necessary to continue the story quests in FFXIV and the game crashed halfway through the raid.

Luckily I managed to get reconnected before they finished the raid so I was thrown back in. But for those 3 minutes where I thought I had to requeue I almost screamed.

I just finished Mafia 2 on PS3 (yeah I'm a gamer from the past, it's cheaper). I really liked the low-key story. Of course it ends with a gunfight but it's pretty well paced and doesn't overstay it's welcome. They don't try to make good guys of the mobsters, even the main character is pretty flawed. If you like those kind of stories (and aren't tired of 3rd person shooters) it's definitely worth checking it out. Gave me an itch to run Gangbusters again.

I’ve been playing Cosmic Star Heroine. It’s an average game, it’s only real flaws until now being some poorly defined tutorials at the beginning, so 15 or so hours in I’m just starting to understand certain aspects of the combat system.

A while back I encountered an optional opponent, the sort of fellow most games would save for a New Game Plus. He had 180,000 Hit Points, while my characters averaged 200. I got curb stomped several times before I decided to come back later, if at all.

A few areas ago I encountered an unbalanced boss and some unbalanced random encounters, but it didn’t take long to level and beat them. Now I’ve unlocked a character quest, and have to beat the Sarlaac Pit, which has 90,000 Hit Points and auto-hits every character with each attack.

I have two things I haven’t tried yet, but I don’t see how to beat it without grinding for many, many hours.

I started two other games (Sassanids and Ostrogoths), and I ran into the population issue with the Ostrogoths after taking Constantinople. They've rebelled on me twice, but I keep taking it back. It's been rough though.
