It's not like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor or Black Widow were characters that anyone outside of comic book fans cared about all. If they could them into big box office, I don't see why they can't do the same with other characters.

I loved about 90% of the run through Endgame. None of that moves the needle for me. But I’m also convinced that Big Shot has been the best show on D+, way beyond the Star Wars and MCU stuff.

Didn’t the MCU really end with Endgame? I guess the Guardians of the Galaxy can do their thing, and Antman & Wasp are entertaining. But seriously. Cap is gone. It doesn’t matter who you give the Shield to, it isn’t Cap. Iron Man is dead. Thor ain’t Thor no more. Widow is dead. Hulk is in one of his weak combo forms, and Brie Larson couldn’t front a garage band, let alone the Avengers.

Jon Snow as Black Knight isn’t gonna fill the empty shoes. They need some serious acting power after losing RDJ and ScarJo. Thank god they still have Cheadle, Cumberbatch, Ruffalo and Olsen.
Ruffalo’s ShrekHulk is 100% my least favorite part of Endgame. I want less neurotic whining and more Hulk Smash.

Otherwise, I agree with you. The Eternals trailer is one of the blandest things I’ve literally ever seen.

I disagree completely with your disagreeing with me on anything because I don't disagree with anything you say here.

I don't use the prequels for one reason - I believe the Old Republic as presented in KOTOR and SWTOR is easily far more expansive and better for TTRPG's. It has nothing to do specifically with the Prequels or the OT.

There's simply a lot more possibility going on in TOR.
Can I game with you?

I liked it.

Like a talking space raccoon or a walking tree, for example?

The movies...and now the shows....have been very solid overall. And they’re now getting a bit experimental, and trying some different things. I’m sure some of it will miss, but I think it’s safe to say the franchise is still going strong, and will likely continue to do so. We’ll see.

For the game, since it’s in house, I wonder if they could simply publish a monthly comic that would have game stats and adventure ideas and maps and so on. I’d buy 20 odd pages of RPG material for 4 or 5 bucks.

Maybe they’ll bring some of their resources to the game.

The old Marvel Handbooks (which they brought back in the early 2000s) with stats for this instead of the "benchmarks" they used would be aces.

Which for me still counts as 5e cosplay.

I find it amusing that each edition of M&M is unambiguously some other classic superhero RPG with the d20 system slapped on top.

She would make a good American Dream. Alas M2, I mourn your universe

I did enjoy me some Spider-Girl back in the day. It was just a pity they had no idea how many issues they were going to get; they went for the obvious story beats way too early, and when they kept getting renewed they kept going back to the same well. "Peter puts on the old costume" is a great bit the first time you do it. After four or five kicks at that can it's lost its resonance.

I found the other solo MC2 characters (J2 especially) to be copy-paste personalities from Spider-Girl. It seemed like wasted page count.

Semi-OT...

Comic books seemed a good avenue for games that was just never properly exploited. During the 80s, Marvel did two different runs of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. DC followed with Who's Who. I think a couple of the larger small companies did similar things. Such titles clearly sold well, because the publishers were willing to go back to the well on them a few times. There was clearly a market for a book explaining capabilities and history of the characters in a summarized and compiled form. It wouldn't have been much of a jump from that to simply toss in RPG stats as a tie in to the licensed games of the time. When TSR did the Official Gamer Handbooks, they did little more than take some of the text from the Deluxe Handbooks and the art, and slap in some game stats.

In the early 90s there was a very niche flirtation with game materials in comic books. TSR did tie in games for XXVc in a Buck Rogers comic, but as far as I know those weren't directly tied to the RPG. Palladium Books licensed Mechanoids to a small comic company which did 3 issues with game material inside until they went out of business. DC was running the AD&D, Forgotten Realms, and Dragonlance titles, and I think they occasionally had a character sheet or some other game material in them.

Admittedly, such an approach is more or less obsolete in the new millennium, but back in the 80s and 90s, an RPG release supported by a comic book with a regular monthly or bimonthly stream of stories and gaming material would have made a lot of sense. There was certainly a big overlap back then between RPGers and comic fans.

Perhaps I misread your statement? Because it seemed to imply that there are times when people actually don't feel socially awkward.

Which just, I dunno... sounds kinda fake and made-up to me.
Actually, there are...

Also, did anyone find out how are they going to adapt the 2d20 to turn it into 616:grin:?

WTF? Refreshing the page leads to double post?

I actually rarely feel socially awkward. People have to prove to me they're humans first and not animatronic meatbags full of emotion. And even then they have to fulfill the subroutines of logical emotional expression contextualized to the situation. Most individuals never make it this far. And as such I don't care about their reactions.

I am aware that this system might indicate *I* am the Animatronic Meat Puppet - but my "Fun Circuitry" is top-knotch, so while I might cause consternation, it tends to be enjoyable for most.

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing I had in mind. Combine that with some adventure ideas or game advice and so on.

It seems like a no-brainer.

Not out fault you didn’t take the “No Shame In My Game” advantage at character creation.

I know, right? I learn pretty much everything that's interesting about most people within hours because they are disappointing bores driven by hormonal impulse. I concede that free will is an illusion but quite frankly some people have more interesting programming than others.

I concede that free will is an illusion
Purely out of interest this is not so clear cut to me as in quantum theory the observer, the central component of the theory, is presupposed to have Free Will*. Since it's present in the current bedrock of physical theories it's hard for me to just claim it's an illusion.
I get that logically it "should" be an illusion, but like many logical conclusions it doesn't square with quantum theory.

I'm not saying this to start a debate, just something you might find interesting. Also I lecture quantum field theory, just to say I'm not spouting it as a crank (I know you'd have to take me at my word here).

*Heisenberg's old essays explain this quite clearly at points.

Mark Ruffalo is coming back for She-Hulk. Cheadle is coming back for Armor Wars. Olsen and Cumberbatch will be in Doctor Strange 2.

Loki is really getting off to a great start and I talk about that in the thread in Media. Totally MCU.
Really? You're OK
with the fact that everything has been preordained, nothing any of the characters did in the previous movies mean anything, because it was always going to work out as it did? That Thanos snapping away half the Universe was what was always going to happen? It's all part of a script from three Lizard People? That this Loki is not the 'real' one as he's still dead? And I have to ask, how was the God of Trickery caught so easily unaware, not once but multiple times in the show?

Maybe I have a lower tolerance for this sort of stuff when it comes to continuity, Iunno.

My problem with the belief that Free Will is an illusion, is that it allows for people to escape blame and responsibility for their actions. "It doesn't matter if I killed them, it was meant to happen, as free will is an illusion."

I genuinely don't want to get into that kind of moral debate. I just wanted to mention it as people might find it intellectually interesting, since the arguments against it are perfectly cogent and sensible and yet contradict a fundamental physical theory. It's a sort of a cool paradox. The Nobel Prize winner Frank Wilczek discusses it a good bit.

If this is going to turn to the metaphysical, might I gently ask y'all to take this off the Marvel thread? Friendly-like as I have no power here?

Anyway, because I kinda want news about Marvel's RPG (or Faserip) or anything.
No worries, I had nothing else to say. It was intended more as an "out of interest" thing rather than a discussion point.

I believe that free will can exist even if the future is fixed. They are not contradictory.

All cool then. (I've got weird beliefs that way, but being it's probably religious and political, I'll not drag the forum into it.)

Wait, what? But you know what, this isn't the time or place for this. I hope this RPG will be cool, but given how downhill most of their comics have been since 2010, I have little hope.

This is why we want a game, so we can tell better ahem "stories" (Note: Not using that the way some do.)
