If you flip the script it just gets silly. Plymouth Biscuit? C'mon. Biscuit to Mud? Trap spell. The Sword in the Biscuit? Oh yeah, that's tough to get out. Yeesh.

The thing is, it is like, sweet stuff with savory CAN work. I love fruit combined with meat. Apricot pork chops. A cherry sauce on meatballs.

But it has to be balanced, and generally chocolate is not the way to go with it.

(Also, technically chocolate plus meat can work as well... if it isn't sweet, some Mexican mole's use it and it is good).

Like... Oreos + meat though sounds horrible.

I like a good Hawaiian Burger

I just am not a big fan of pineapple, so most "Hawaiian" versions of dishes aren't up my alley.

That said, spam musubi is bizarrely delicious and I thank Hawaii for its existence.

Despite my shouting about heresy upstream, try tipping half a can of crushed pineapple into your taco meat sometime, you won't be disappointed.

lol, well, that sounds disgusting to me, but a pork burger with swiss cheese, pineapple, and terriyaki sauce I'm down with

I'd go with cheddar but otherwise that sounds great.

Best... BEST burger I ever had was a patty with habanero chopped and mixed into it, topped with fresh jalapeño, cilantro and honey on a pretzel bread bun.

I like Spam.
For years I thought spam was garbage food but after trying spam musubi I had to re-evaluate my entire line of thinking. I still don't think spam is healthy but it is undeniably delicious when paired with something like rice or eggs. My wife will bring spam musubi home for me if I have had a bad day at work (food is one of her love languages) and I will enjoy it as a rare and cherished treat.

Sweet + salty and savory can be amazing. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had was a simple sandwich of ham with cheddar + mayo on fresh baked rosemary sourdough. I believe the quality and proportion of the ingredients had a lot to do with it.

Shit on a shingle is Creamed Chipped Beef (or just Chipped Beef) on toast, not biscuits and gravy.
Whoa that brings me back. I remember eating that a lot in the military. It was totally foreign to me but apparently it was like home cooking for a lot of dudes. Last time I ate that was 2007 on a hungover morning with a buddy after the wedding of his oldest daughter. He was a veteran of Iraq I with the 101st and wanted the nostalgia feels.

My grandfather spoke of it as something he'd never eat like soup. Spam reminded him of the war and soup reminded him of the great depression. I'm not sure why it occasionally turned up in my childhood kitchen but I don't recall disliking it them. Much later I had it in rice at a Hawaiian restaurant and realized it's not bad. I used to keep cans of it as a sort of emergency meat. Turns out it doesn't actually have a very long shelf life.

My Southeast Asian, Korean, and Pacific friends have fond childhood memories of Spam which I assume are legacies of war and/or military deployment.

My understanding is it was traded away by GIs for local items since the GIs we not fond of it and the locals were generally short on food.

They used to serve it all the time in the Army. I guess they changed to healthier food years later. lol. I use to use a lot of tabasco sauce with mine for breakfast while dipping my bacon in it.

Edit: Also used to eat a lot of Spam we'd heat it on the engine blocks of the M60 tanks which had hotter engines than our M113/M901s.

Apropos of nothing....Oreo double stack cheeseburger with country gravy

Big burgers should be wide, not tall. It lets you get all of the flavours in one bite, and also makes it possible to actually eat with one hand without sliding everywhere.

My rule is one burger, one "thick" topping (Chilli, pineapple, etc), and "thin" toppings can be more liberally added.

The key to spam is to fry it really. Even something like spam fried rice is actually fantastic.

When I worked construction as an Arizona youth, I was delighted to discover that the Mexicans I worked with were actually bored with the homemade food they brought, and would gladly trade it to me for a ham sandwich. I mean, I took the time and effort to make a decent sandwich, but I still feel like I was getting the better of the deal, eating fresh homemade Mexican food from somebody's kitchen on the daily. I'm salivating just remembering it.
