What are y'all up to these days?

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
3 Billy's, not bad.
About 7 shelves are actual RPGs. 4 Shelves of board games and one that has various stuff. The third Billy on just outside the pic doesn't contain any gaming materials. We could do with a few more shelves for future RPG and boardgame purchases and Kickstarter deliveries.

Certified Certified spittingimage spittingimage Baulderstone Baulderstone There are no leaks, but some of the stained panels weren't replaced.

I don't know. If you replace the stained ceiling tiles, how do you know where all the leaks are so you can place buckets around the house to catch them?
Please, don't trigger my leak-related PTSD. We've been in a situation that was literally like that for quite some time... There are no leaks now and there haven't been since we got a new landlord who worked his ass off fixing a lot of the stuff wrong with this sorry excuse for an apartment.

The one before him clearly couldn't handle being a landlord, to the point where you'd feel sorry for him; you could see he was trying but clearly in over his head. And before him the situation was... kind of shady.

The one time a landlord fixed something in one of my apartments,, it backfired. My cat loved sticking his paw in the drip and licking the water off. When it was fixed, he gave me a hard time until I made it drip again.

Aren’t you in one of those Scandinavian paradises? It sounds like you’re in Camden, NJ.

Here's the latest largely nonsensical journal entry from my character, Rocky the Barbarian, in Beatrix's D&D game. I used to take the bare minimum of notes in this campaign, but our usual scribe has a new job where he sometimes has to miss sessions, so I took over. It forces me to pay attention to the game's details, which is something I'm not always great at.

Rocky’s Journal 1/10/22

Sloppy recap.
Beach!
Respective teachers.
“Kubo’s right.”
Schrodinger’s universe punch.
Kel: “Punch the universe again.”
Get consent before fisting the Air Temple.
River: “Be careful messing with space and time.”
Kubo: “Death is no excuse!”
Kubo thinks sleep is death.
Jace on chaise lounge. Has Sklimpp’s hat. Asks if Sklimpp is ready.
Kel: “What thing are we doing?”
Ra bursts into fire. “Train, of course.”
1-on-1 training. Beach training.
Apple is gone.
River: “I will not become your new pet!”
Boomy with me. Bumy.
Kubo: “There was time travel with apples!”
River throws Kubo in water. She’s going to beat reality into him.
Airiel takes Erro down the beach.
Race!
Bumy is insecure. Into the woods!
Kel on sunset walk. Sol sword, Ra, and Kel.
Ryjel and Tarus (younger, taller dwarf).
Tarus sounds like Aard. Ryjel not much of a reader. Stay by fire.
Jace struts. Sklimpp sklimpps.
Erro is really fast.
Checkered flags! Airiel is faster.
“Being dead for 1,000 years slows you down.”
“You’re young and weak.”
Airiel tells some origins.
Evil leaked out of the Neverworld, so she made some offense/defense gloves. “Plus some extra magic and help from others… sentience.”
Air as stepping stones.
River holds Kubo’s face down in the sand.
“Me and Crystallum are pretty big on consent!”
“How do you feel?”
“Weird… yeah… that seemed mean. I didn’t like it.”
River didn’t expect him to be so emotional/squishy.
“I understand this is some version of real. I feel like my most traumatic moments have been fake.”
2 out of 3 were real.
Triton ranger who protected Crystallum- a very beautiful town. Once evil started to spread, she created the ultimate defense. Most eventually got destroyed because she left for the capital city.
“We saved the world, but we died. And didn’t save everyone.”
Bumy is insecure and rambles. His younger brother was more successful.
Shows me how the maul works.
Slices trees.
HIs past: when the Neverworld came through, Tarus created the Book of Aard.
Bumy wanted to assist and protect his brother, Tarus. Not a champion, but wanted to protect little bro.
Half-slice.
“The spin, the throw, the connection!”
Ra: “Sol looks well-polished.”
Kel: “He never polishes me.”
Ra: “Sol, polish your wielder!”
“We have such an electric connection.”
Ra catches on fire and powers up Sol to blue flames. Blue cone of fire.
Ra was a blacksmith and skilled fighter. Made fire sword to combat the creatures that came. Creepy crawly night creatures oozing. Ultimate offensive weapon against them.
Sol seems to have lost its sentience.
Ryjel, Aard, and Tarus sitting by fire. Tarus needs a rest. Tarus as a healer considers himself a fighter.
“So, you haven’t read much of Aard. Good info, sentience unexpected.”
“You sound like him.”
Pronunciation wars!
Aard was an early settlement on this continent. Destroyed, now Belden. Wanted to protect those fighting against the Neverworld creatures, so made something that could heal them.
“He’s lighter than he looks!”
Lots of journal entries, a lot of it is boring.
Apparently dead jellyfish & crabs. Book heals them. Back into water and swim away. Book crumbles as it heals, but builds back up.
Sklimpp and Jace- Jace was travelling with The Bard. May have been involved with the curse.
Met Bumy during the war, offered to assist, helped defend with absorption powers.
“Is that why there’s so many bones in there?”
“Yeah.”
Sklimpp training montage- mechanical bull.
Wand of wonder rat.
Witch bolt! Hat catches witch bolt. Shoots witch bolt out of hat!
Everyone rigorous training! Feel better. Reconvene around fire.
Training was 100x worse.
Our weapons have new abilities.
Sklimpp finds 6 applecores!
+1 rat.
Mentors congratulate us. Need to find our Ultimate Attack.
Aardmageddon!
Ryjel feels most cape-able!
Note to self: invent pinball!
We create a massive geyser!
Fish shoot into the air!
“Simulation” ends.
Kubo: “I just came to grips with reality!”
Portal door drops from the sky.
Fall through space, float to foyer of the Air Temple.
“There were lessons. I don’t know what they were, but there were lessons.”

Our long running 5e campaign came to an ignominious end at The Tomb of Horrors... 3 PCs jumped into the green devil face, mine lost a hand to it and left to follow a path of hook-handed piracy. THE END.

I suspect our GM is just going through the motions these days...

Why did you jump into it? These days even I know what's behind the green devil's face:grin:!

I didn't jump into it... the others did.
The first guy in really didn't know what it did... but the others knew.
So it was pretty much a group suicide due to lack of enthusiasm... and not wanting to meta-game.
OK, that game wasn't much fun now, I suspect...how did your poor Referee take it:grin:?

...how did your poor Referee take it:grin:?
He seemed fine with it... after all, he was the one who set us up to go to TOH.
I suspect he's bored as well... but is too invested in 5e to run something different (or to run 5e differently), and doesn't seem too inviting about letting others run the game for a while.

I'm not in your group, but my first thought is "you might want to ask him whether he's not about to get burned out".

Edited to add: because that sounds like me before the first time I got burned out. And kinda like me before the second one:shade:.

Normally, I make an effort to write up the recaps of my Savage Worlds game as a semi-coherent narrative; however, I'm also usually the GM. For the session below, as well as the prior session and the upcoming session, I got to be a player! :dice: As such, I wrote this one up in a style similar to my D&D character's journal, because this is just what my character was able to quickly scribble down in her notebook. Apparently Texan collegiate cheerleaders who get unexpectedly thrust into surreal fantasy lands use as many exclamation points as the authors of Silver Age comic books, haha.

HEPCATS Episode 47: The Old College Try
RLD 14th January, 2022
Present: Ayu, N0-5R, Pierre Delecto, Raquel Squelch, Zera. And Baron von Braun's player as Special Guest GM!

“How ripped is that centaur?”
Chess battle continues!
“You’re the shiniest one in the whole battle.”
Ayu’s glitching again.
The Dijon Knight.
“Kill that pawn!”
“Ok, chess with guns, got it!”
Future: find an enchanter to make Ayu shoot around corners… maybe? Called shot to Knight’s head.
Ayu is surprised to see a laser gun in her hand. Ayu cocks head.
N0-5R smacks Knight with a stick.
N0-5R #headdesk.
Zera attempts to cowtip the Rook!
“It just works.”
Forced slam.
“It’s a shook Rook!”
Pierre telekinetically knocks over the King. It works!
Pierre: “Tipping over your King is a sign of resigning.”
King damaged Rook in the fall.
N0-5R: “Does Chessamine do anything?”
Chessamine attacks the King!
“That’s a King killer.”
“Is the fish alive or dead?”
“It’s more of a spectrum.”
Ayu is doubly interested in the café.
Zera questions why Ayu always tries so hard to be human, when she could try to be other awesome species like Avians.
Many intelligent species here. Okay to bang.
N0-5R: “More is more.” Catches the fish. “I’ve had a lot of practice.”
Jennifer hops on Chessamine’s back and they ride away.
“Did they have anything we need, other than love?”
24 Hour Urgent Care + Bakery.
“Not only did she steal my fiancée, she also stole my friend’s hope of getting his leg baked back on.”
Breadstick legs!
Our pastry golem is so much buffer now!
“A very intense forearm!”
I got a butthole fruit.
Pierre: “I was thinking of stabby, but I’ll go with choppy.”
Very large telescope made entirely of brass.
Tall buildings on stilts, one with a beard.
Ayu: “Buildings don’t have beards.”
The beard belongs to Metuselahhhh.
Pierre wants to see what’s going on with the weird beard.
Pierre talks into the can. “Maybe it’s cursed. Let’s try it!”
“Hello.”
“Who is it?”
“Pierre.”
They have lemon up there.
Listen for missing letters.
T-O-H-N-R.
Oldest lemon was in a chest on the north tower.
Parachutes. Enough for everyone.
The winged one puts on a parachute.
That Texas adventurousness.
We land on moving buildings which are racing each other.
I land on a large house with wheels and jet engines.
All surrounding chocolate factory. Person on top.
All houses have open windows with cannons.
+4 XP.

More of a what I'm not up to these days...

Really wanting to get a play by post campaign going, but what I'm interested in running (Cold Iron in some flavor) just doesn't attract players... I did start putzing around with Cold Iron Samurai Adventures thinking maybe an uncommon setting/genre would attract players.

It seems like my best hope would be to accept the inevitable and run some flavor of D&D... But that's just not really grabbing me right now...

I can't think of anything else from my game collection that I actually want to run. I'm currently burned out on SFRPG. Talislanta and EPT have settings that I just can't wrap my head around enough to run (or EPT would look not that much different than D&D just with oddly named dungeon denizens instead of orcs and such). Chivalry and Sorcery would be too involved for PbP, plus who would actually be interested in 1e and how would they get a copy of the rules... I'd love to get back into Burning Wheel, but I just struggled to make it really work and also not just play off like me sort of dragging the PCs around. I've got other games, but really even less desire to run them.

Waiting and waiting for the updated edition of Double Zero. I was really impressed with the first edition and I was promised a 'Director's Cut' on the 27th, by video no less (see below)! I hope it's not vaporware and it hasn't changed too much, otherwise I'm going to give Classified, the other James Bond retroclone, another look. If it does come out and it's any good I may post about it.

Note the greatest shelfies but:

Also, this list of games I own:

So...Ring World? Elf Quest? Sorcerer?

...or, you know, you could pitch Kill Puppies for Satan, or Poisoned, to your regular gaming group, and when they google it and react, offer them whatever else you want:tongue:?

In my Savage Worlds campaign, one of my players stepped up to be temporary Special Guest GM. It was great! I gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, and he came up with some really creative stuff for the world that has reinvigorated my own creativity.

Last night, he finished his adventure, so next time, I'm back in the GM's chair. He had intended for it to be a one-shot, but it ended up being a three-shot because of the amount of stuff he prepped, haha. I offered any of the other players to be Special Guest GM next, but none of them stepped up.

Several reasons. The result: houses absurdly expensive and way too few of them being built.
I'm sending that this is a general problem. Waves of people are picking the same area at the same time and then finding out the local supply didn't predict them coming all at the same time. No city can handle that and you end up with homelessness and appreciating housing prices. Everyone wants some instant solution but you just can't currently make housing magically appear. I could see things like 3d printed houses making them appear and order of magnitude faster but I don't think we're really there yet.
