Hi-Fi systems in those days had a lot better sound than modern systems for me, at least for your regularl/budget, high-street ranges. I still use my 30 year old speakers even though the Hi-Fi system it came with is long gone. They weren't even anything special in their day, but they produce a sound richer that anything else I've found (without spending a small fortune).

Stealing this from the car guys, but it applies to speakers too.

There is no replacement for displacement.

PolarBlues PolarBlues A lot more depth, richness and less tiny hollow, artificial sounding those older systems. Totally agree.

It is somewhat reassuring that it's not just me who thinks this.

Also, going back to that Hi-Fi photo, it's clearly a fakes. All the components are Sony when clearly any self-respecting Hi-Fi system featured a mixture of Technics, Pinoeer, Sony and other assorted brands.

I was mostly a Kenwood and Pioneer guy. My current shop stereo is a Yamaha receiver with Pioneer speakers and a Klipsch sub woofer. Hey I need good tunes when I'm cutting metal and wood.

A TV the size of a microwave built into a wooden cabinet the size of a refrigerator.

And a phone on that endtable next to the chair (or the table behind it the lamp is on). Either a slimline or a typical big base one (dunno what that type is called). Rotary or pushbutton would both be appropriate.

Also a total lack of TV guides or even a newspaper for TV listings.

VIC-20 baby. Chuck Norris Kung Fu Heroes (amusingly), River Raid, Loderunner. Ahh, Memories.

This was my electronic dopamine generator. The mighty Acorn Electron. (Not the one in the picture).
Many hours were spent wandering around the Palace of Magic, playing Spellbinder, Elite and Exile.
It's somewhere at my parents, gathering dust now. Sad times.

I saw that movie back then, and somewhere around 2010 I tracked down the DVD version. If I recall correctly, I had it shipped from Australia as it was the closest place I could find selling it.

It got a 30th anniversary edition Blu ray release in 2015

There's a 30th anniversary edition on Blu ray?

At least I won't have to pay for shipping from halfway around the world this time. Germany is at least a lot closer :hehe:

First time I watched it, I didn't like the movie. However, that's because I expected something more...serious. But even back then, when I looked at it as a "martial art comedy" I loved it.
