I guess this happened before the Human Torch burned Hitler alive:

But probably after Captain America gave him a good thrashing:

Apparently Bruce Wayne's dad was Dick Tracy. Who knew?

Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Probably why all of Batman's villains were molded in the image of Dick Tracy villains.

There's a fascinating interview with Bill Finger by the Batmania fanzine in 1967 (uploaded online here) where he goes into the inspirations for the creation of a lot of the iconic villains. What's amusing is that Finger was very much against recurring villains: he wanted Batman to kill all of them off.

Yeah...Bob Kane has "memories" of lots of things he had little or nothing to do with, like creating Robin and the Joker......and just generally writing or drawing almost any Batman after 1939...:clown:

Somehow without Captain America, it just doesn't feel like the Avengers, even though he wasn't a founder.

I love the classic Iron Man suit.

When Marvel Heroes was still around, the Diablo clone that died last year, I had the grey shellhead costume for my Iron Man. It didn’t animate properly, it didn’t really fit with the game’s aesthetic, a lot of the powers came from the wrong points, but dammit it was cool.

I love the Prince Valiant strips, really want to pickup some of the full colour collection that I believe Fantagraphics put out.

My wife has the complete Little Nemo strips collection, they are lovely. I also have some of the Krazy Kat and Gasoline Alley strips. For Peanuts I have two volumes, one from the late 50s and one from the 60s. I think the 60s strips are the best.

May 1954...before Captain America went soft...! Deliberately leaving the leader of spy ring to perish in flames is pretty brutal! This is the guy who was later at loggerheads with the Punisher over methodology?

I have all of them to date and they are fantastic.

He did for awhile. He always had this flirty thing with Barbara though. I think when he became Nightwing, they started dating.

I think thats how it went in the animated series as well, but they fell out over her crush on Batman.

There was a Batman Beyond comic series that explored what happened after the Joker’s death flashback in the Return of the Joker animated movie. Really good stuff.

I believe I have that. Havent reread the BB comics in years now, but recently got the series on DVD, so may follow that up with a reread.

The dumb thing DC did with the New 52 was compact their universe down to a five year timeline. That would mean Batman had Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian as his partners plus his solo year or two at the beginning of his career. Made no sense. Not to mention he met Talia after becoming Batman and she is Damian’s mother and he is ten years old. When I picture Batman I always think of him in his late 30s which would be reasonable.

so 5 years to condense ALL continuity post-Crisis? That's absurd.

Well, at least we can count on them rebooting it all again in a few years.

They have already made changes. It's really crazy. These comic companies want to have their cake and eat it too .They don't want their readers to feel like the stories they have invested in are invalidated and they say it all counts and then comes up with these ridiculous implausibilities like the sliding scale timelines.

Just quick rough math for Batman.

Became Batman at the age of 25. Met Dick in year two or three. So we'll say he was 27. Dick was 13 when they met and he was 19 when he became Nightwing. That makes Bruce 33. He met Jason. That lasted about a year. Then Tim for a couple. Then Damian. He's at least 36 or 37.

I never understood who the obsession with Continuity was for. I mean, it alienates new readers, as an older reader I just have no interest jumping into the current mess. That stable of diehard fans that actually cares about maintaining it must be dwindling by the year.

What is the aversion to solid, self-contained stories these days?
