The first 3 episodes of The Boys were a real treat. Never read the comic, but I'm informed that the writers have curated a lot of the best stuff from the comics and smoothed it out. It's the closest thing to effective satire I can find on TV and can't wait to see where this goes *head explodes*.

I've recently started watching Miss Scarlet & The Duke, which I'm finding to be a good watch. Victorian lady inherits her father's detective business after he dies, and having been trained in the arts of detecting by him decides to make a go of it herself. Great set dressing, costumes and hair, and it cuts closer to the bone than I expected.

Shudder is streaming two very different horror classics I caught up with this weekend: the psychedelic Eurohorror vampire film Daughters of Darkness with the great Delphine Seyrig and the fun, clever monster movie Alligator, with a script by John Sayles and a typically charming Robert Forster.

I love Daughters of Darkness! It's a trip!

The director, Harry Kümel, is van Aantwaaarpe...

(and after downloading this movie, his other movie Malpertuis is next on my list. Curious to see Orson Welles in that one).

Started watching Heels on Starz today. I'm about 3/4 of the way through season 1 already. Really enjoying it.

I really enjoyed the series more than I thought I would. Really looking forward to S2.

I just finished Krypton S1. The second dvd was borked so I had to skip a couple of scenes, but I get the general gist of the story and of Seg-El's sacrifice. I'm not going to bother with Season 2; the story was self-contained enough for me that I don't need to see what comes after. And I figured out why I didn't like Seg: he has the same stupid haircut as Nick Burkhardt in the first season of Grimm. Yeah, that almost made me drop the entire Grimm series.

But the series did lead me back down memory lane. In my young life I have only read a dozen Superman comics, and I only owned 3 or 4, but I do remember this one panel :

Against my better judgement... I've started watching the Marvel movies. Dizney * has a playlist of them in chronological order... so far I've watched the first Captain America movie (it was OK), some Agent Carter one-shot (also OK), and Captain Marvel (kind of meh).
The only ones on the list that I've seen are the Guardians of the Galaxy movies... but I'm looking forward to Ant Man (is there a movie about The Atom?).

I am too, though I doubt I'm going to keep Starz past my trial subscription. So I guess I will have to find another way to watch it. I learned of another show called Deep Heat, but it appears to be a comedy. Haven't looked around for it just yet, but I might now

I haven't gotten into the whole "let your sub lapse" mentality, but Starz might be the one I try that with. Netflix, D+, Hulu, HBO Max and Paramount+ have enough content to keep me interested between tentpoles, but Starz doesn't seem to

I am loving me some Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers right now. RIP, Jerry Orbach, we still miss you.

Otherwise, digging through my "schlock pile" of movies and TV from my various Amazon Prime Video channels.

What sucks is (at least for my sub) is American Gods only has season 1 available. I've seen that, and wanted to see seasons 2 and 3. Black Sails was good, but I could have watched it on Hulu. DaVinci's Demons (seasons 1 & 2) are on Freevee, so other than about 4 movies, there isn't much else of interest for me on Starz. I've got a month left, so I'll probably bang through the movies on my list, then cancel. I have all the ones you mentioned save HBO, but I do have Prime Video and Peacock (which is free via Comcast). I was going to cancel Hulu as I don't use it much these days, but I got D+ for 2.99 a month as an add-on, so I'll be keeping it for now (as that's still less than getting D+ directly). Paramount + I use the most these days, with a lot of Tubi as well. They've really upped their content, and I'm finding a lot of stuff I missed in the past (plus content from the last 2-3 years) I'm interested in. I also have Shudder, and I haven't used that much as I haven't been into wanting to watch much horror. Their original documentaries have been good though.

New series of Love Island in the UK tonight. I like Paige and Indiyah, purely for research purposes, you understand. Very healthy-looking ladies. This is the last time I will mention LI, so don't worry.

EDIT: Having done some more research, I like Paige and Tasha the best. FOR GREAT SCIENCE!

I don't even count those as they have other things which give them to me, i.e. Comcast and Prime.

As far as American Gods, I didn't even bother with Season 3 after what they did to Orlando Jones. He was one of the best parts. And considering they focused on the parts I didn't really care about in S3 made it a skip also. I still love these two parts more than I can say:

Peace... is a beautiful, but shitty idea.

I got Starz a little bit ago specifically to watch Heels, which I enjoyed quite a bit. My original intent was to cancel after that, but it turns out Starz has quite a few Westerns, so I kept it for that.

I only found 3 John Wayne westerns of interest there, and I've seen them all multiple times before. My playlist was literally about 10-12 items, and with 2 westerns down, Heels and Black Sails finished, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife seen, my list is about 6 items left. It's literally the first paid streaming service where I found so little content of interest to me.

I wanted to watch Season 2, but will likely have to look elsewhere. It's low on my radar though, as I have so much to watch right now.

I think I see your problem...
Why is that a problem? I'm only two movies in but so far they make sense... the 'power cube' from the first one (captain america) shows up in the second one (captain marvel)... I'm assuming it eventually has something to do with the fancy jewelry that big-chinned guy is collecting in later movies? Or not...

It's a problem because in chronological order, the first ones are the weaker entries- at least according to most. I really liked the First Avenger, but it is definitely more of a war movie in the vein of actual war movies than a superhero one.

It also takes a while to get to Iron Man, which is the Marvel movie that really blows the roof off. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of First Avenger, but I'd skip straight to Iron Man after that. And the chronology around Iron Man>Incredible Hulk>IM 2 is a bit blurry.

I'd probably skip some of the chaff if the idea is to power through the whole MCU. The Hulk can go, Iron Man 2 can go, Thor 2 can go etc. You can always go back for those.

Though they went soft on Devil in a Bottle, I liked Iron Man 2. I also never forgave them for Extremis, but I like Iron Man 3 also.
It's not that I didn't like it, it was fine, I just don't think it's essential for the project at hand. My list might or might not include IM3, although I think it's ore important to Tony's character arc that IM2, so there's that.

I'm not really the audience for these movies anyway... and Iron Man is the third, right after Captain Marvel. I'm not expecting these to be 'good' movies... just entertaining.

My take on watching in release order vs chronological order is that these 22 movies contain foreshadowing, callbacks, Easter eggs, injokes ... it's all interconnected, and I think the viewing experience is more fun when you see things in the release order.

It's like watching Fellowship of the Ring, but they show Gandalf fighting the Balrog and his resurrection immediately after "Run, Fool's!". It's the same story but the impact is different. IMO

I'm sure it will be different... but I think I can keep track of the various 'clever bits' to remember them when the moment comes for their cleverness to be revealed. Like the scene at the end of Captain Marvel featuring some Avengers trying to figure out Nick Fury's 'bat signal' device (so far Samuel L. Jackson has shown up in every movie).

Meanwhile, tonight we went out and braved the theater (and it's 30 minutes of pre-show advertising) to see Crimes Of The Future. Despite its serious tone it was pretty funny in its commentary about artists and the art world. It's a bit gorey, but the grossest bits were the noises Vigo kept making, especially when trying to eat in his dancing skeleton chair.
Fun and weird and I think I need to see it again.

Season 2 is solid but different in some ways. Season 3 made me sad.

Watching the boys, Obi wan, and now strange new world. Good for keeping me out of the bad places in my head, though I gotta admit I have laughed at many inappropriate times with the boys. Poor Timmy

Netflix and it's subtitled.
Alas, it doesn't seem to be available on non-streaming Netflix. Maybe someday.

My wife and I just started Stranger Things Season 3, because the DVDs finally became available at the local library. They've actually had them for a while, but only bought one copy for the entire system, so we were on a waiting list. We're enjoying it so far, though it's been so long since I saw season 2 that I've rather forgotten the story.

I watched The Family on Starz. It starts off as more of a comedy, then gets really violent in the final act. Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeifer as a mobster in Witness Protection and his wife living in France. They are constantly on the move because of the trouble they tend to cause (along with their kids). They end up in some small town in Normandy. Hijinks ensue until the mob finds them. I was kind of so-so on the movie, but it wasn't horrible.

I also started watching Shadow Mask on Tubi, which appears to be a Black Mask rip-off (which is amusing, as it looks like Wu Tang Clan did a release of it as Black Mask 3, which you can find on Youtube). Cheng Pei Pei is the main villain. It's not drawing me in, but I'll still finish it (as it's not bad enough to just give up on)

Still questing through the Marvel movies... we watched the first two Iron Man movies yesterday.
Today it's on to The Hulk... starting with the 2003 Ang Lee and on to the 2008 one.

EDIT: I enjoyed the Hulk movies a lot... maybe because they're essentially monster movies. They lack the level of tragedy I usually prefer... but it's fun to see giant creatures fighting in the streets.
