Apparently of heart failure. There's a thread about it on tbp.

He's the designer of the Critter Commandos miniatures game, Critter Tech, $tarcorp$ miniatures game, The Duel rpg, and perhaps most infamously, d20 Foundation A World In Black and White. Which may have been the very lowest point in the d20 glut.

I've always admired his plucky little company even though it was pretty hard to get here in Canada and honestly given the on and off again nature of the business and the website.

I do have his $tarcorp$ rules and I'll admit "Fed Ex Rangers, when it absolutely positively has to be blown up overnight!" is one of my favorite lines from anything ever. It's a neat little game with a fun sense of humor. It sounds like he floundered a bit in later years. I don't know what he did for a living, it seems unlikely that his gaming work could have made a living. Still it makes me sad to know he's gone. I love the weird little games and companies where someone just says "damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead."

I think I used to have a set of Critter Commando miniatures (Frogs and Rabbits). They were pretty cool.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I loved reading Critter Commandos, though I never actually played it. I think I even have some minis for it somewhere in my collection. I know I had a couple other things he did or worked on, but that's the one that stands out.

One of the first game designers I met and chatted to when I visited America in the late eighties. Bought a secondhand copy of DragonQuest off him. We didn’t stay in touch but I remember him well and positively.

What’s tbp? I’d like to read the thread.

The thread there's pretty political so I didn't link to it. Having read a bit of his stuff, I'm not shocked by his politics. Still, the thread in question seemed a bit excessive.

Yep, nothing like tap dancing on someone’s grave

I did not own any of his products and am sorry I wasn’t aware of them. My condolences to his family and friends.

I wouldn't have guessed his beliefs based on Critter Commandos alone which is the only thing of his I have. That game is a comic anthropomorphic wargame with the Ratzis as the evil empire.

I didn't know Paul, but I'm friends with Michael Nunn, who worked with Paul on various releases (including Foundation and UNSanctioned). He did some art for him, along with other things. Before the pandemic, Michael had approached me about converting the UNSanctioned setting over to Supers! Revised. Was discussing that ORtrail ORtrail on Discord before I saw the tbp thread. Really sad to learn of his passing. Michael always spoke highly of him.

He made a wargame, whose name I forget right now, that allowed the use of any toy or action figure, which I thought was pretty special. I really enjoyed that as a young kid. RIP

Toy War or All Purpose Miniatures Rules would be my guess
