[Bit of Fun] Guess the RPG from a screenshot of a page spread!

Ok, you guys have made it to my LEVEL FIVE, which should prove to be rather more difficult, I would think.

I'll even be surprised if anyone gets this one:

Lost Worlds?

It has a Fantasy Trip / Heroes and Other Worlds feel. Maybe a clue?
Thing is, there are other people here familiar with The Fantasy Trip, so I'd expect someone to get any TFT stuff.

It's interesting to me though, the things people have guessed The Fantasy Trip for. (Maybe it's partly because I'm so used to TFT, but TFT seems much less crunchy and laden with arbitrary acronyms than the games people have thought might be TFT.)

Ok, here's a clue in another much-less-generic image from the same book:

Yep, ADOM Lite.

For those (the majority, I assume) of you who don't know what that is, it's a pen and paper RPG based on the classic ADOM Rogue-like computer game, which was a crowdfunded Kickstarter add-on / stretch goal of a campaign for a new version of ADOM with improved graphics and UI and stuff.

As people noticed from the first image, it includes support for playing the game solitaire, and for randomly generating dungeons to explore.

It's a limited edition Kickstarter add-on reward, so there are only a fairly limited number of the books in existence.

Dang it! I don't have the time for a new rogue-like or another rpg I'd have to run to ever get to play... But those mutations look useful... Grrrr...

Yeah, and the computer version has many other possibilities and they're often game-changers . . . sometimes when I've gotten corrupted, it has been quite useful, at least for a while . . . though they pretty much all reduce your APpearance, which affects your social interactions.

Believe it or not, it was the LE attribute. It was the missing element for my Google-fu. lol
Huh, I wouldn't have expected that!

Okay, I feel obligated to give a couple of clues for my entry (post #219) since it's one of the main ones that has not yet been guessed. Which feels kinda odd, given how long I was out of gaming, that something from my meager collection is somehow stumping the lot of you (seriously, it's like seeing some kid on the playground running one past Michael Jordan).

It was released in two different formats: the first was just a standalone booklet, the second is was turned into a box set, with some extras added, a year later.

It is, I *think*, the first RPG book to have a full short story included in it - not just a fragment that runs a few paragraphs or maybe half a page, but a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end (about 17 pages total in this instance). First page of said story included below, with the title cropped out (as that would give it away).

Really happy I created this thread. Thought it was a daft idea but lots of us seem to like it!

Here's another from me. Artwork from one of my favourite fantasy RPG artists...

... The lone hero looks out upon the world.

Name escapes me... mid of last year saw a 5e hack focussed on Norse/Viking play. Art is strongly reminding me of that. Seemed pretty nice.

Clue: it's named after an incredibly important and famous piece of ancient literature!

The publication details make me wonder if it is Dave Arneson's Adventures in Fantasy, which was released in this way (though it also had a second edition).

But I've never seen Adventures in Fantasy, and I can't find any images of what its pages look like, or its table of contents, to see if it would match your offering. The reviews I've read don't mention an short story, and unfortunately say very little about the combat system, which is all the posted pages deal with.

It occurs to me that one of the harder things to identify may be retro-clones, since there are so many of them and their rules are so similar. Here are a couple of examples:

Is that first one Dark Dungeons Lofgeornost Lofgeornost?
It is!

And in other news, I think I've finally identified Tulpa Girl Tulpa Girl's obscure entry. Based on a review in the Space Gamer, it must be The Castle Perilous by James Sheldon, published by West Wind Simulations. I've never seen that game, but it fits the publication history (initial printing followed by box set, company only published this game) and the review notes that game includes fiction and "bracket numbers" for combat, as in the example given above.

Not the boxed set of AiF. I have that and can't find this in it at all.

DING DING DING!!!

I might need to manipulate the picture I wanted to post. Which means "tomorrow".

Also, I'm amazed at some of the titles you people came up with:grin:!

And another offering (the image has some blurriness from compression, sorry):

This one had me stumped for a good while, since it seems like Chivalry & Sorcery (and even references it) but is different from the first and second editions, which are all I'm familiar with.

Looking at reviews, though, it's probably for the 3rd edition, since that used the PSF (Personal Success Factor) mentioned in this screenshot. I'd guess the Creatures Bestiary, given the page numbers.

Yeah, it's 3rd Edition's bestiary.

So, as far as I can tell, these remain unidentified. It’s hard to tell sometimes because the posters don’t always respond to guesses. And I may have missed some, of course:

One more and then I'll stop, for a while at least. Sorry about the items used to hold the book open; there is also a little redaction.

Home of the Brave for CP2020? And my latest challenges. Never realized how hard it was to find layouts that didn't have the game title in the header or footer of each page...

No one guessed mine, which surprised me. It might have gotten lost in a page flip.

And since no one guessed the second completely, I’ll close it out. It’s Arsenal, a Shatterzone supplement. I can’t tell if it’s the original or the reprint, which is called GearTech, since it also includes another supplement called Hardwear/Sottwear.

It's been a long while since I owned the dead-tree version (and for some reason the PDF got stripped from my Lulu account) but the third one is kind of giving me Mythic Russia flashbacks.
