Apparently, Shatner was too good to show up? KHAAAANNN!

Given the period of the clothing and what is in the background/ the event, this would of been in the middle of one of Shatner's I hate all of you/ you would be nothing without me periods.

If he was there, he would not be standing with these people.

You are correct. That was the Space Shuttle unveiling in the late 70's I believe, and as I recall, he did hate everyone for some reason during that time. Why? KHAAAANNNN!

Oh wait, no KHAAANNN! yet. Maybe that's why he was pissed off? Ran out of hookers and blow money?

Many, many years ago, I read he didn't show up because he wasn't offered an appearance fee. I have no recollection of the source or any idea as to the accuracy.

Dude, I love White Sharks. No clue why, as they are some weird combo of terrifying and fascinating at the same time. I tell people at work that I would love to go cage diving to see White Sharks, and they think I'm totally bonkers...

... you are bonkers and I'm the same! Would never do it though I'm just as fearful and respectful of them as I am fascinated by them. Also, I've seen some awful footage of great whites in distress when they get trapped in the openings of cages; a couple even dying later due to the injuries sustained so I wouldn't go cage diving on principle. I'm all for enjoying wildlife but, for me, it has to be without significant impact to the wellbeing of the animals in question; on their terms, not ours. So, diving in the open sea it is, then! :trigger:

Yeah, that would worry me too, as they are so curious they sometimes get stuck or trapped. Not sure I have the...uh, gumption? ... to go open sea diving with a white shark. The outcome would probably depend on whether it was a older female, or a male. The males can get super aggressive in a hurry...

Pretty sure they're the designers of the M-16 and AK-47, Eugene Stoner and Mikhail Kalashnikov.

You are correct, That is who they are.
Specifically, Stoner is the one holding the AK-47 while Kalashnikov is the one with the M-16.

Apparently they really hit it off despite having no languages in common.

And that's such a great photo. The little kid just makes it. Chris Reeve was awesome but I struggle to watch his Superman as it makes me a bit sad about what happened to him. I remember when my mum took me to watch it at the pictures and at the end, when he's flying over Earth and smiles at the camera, it got a standing ovation. Rotherham. England. Winter 1978/9. A standing ovation. Never seen that since at a cinema in the UK. Just doesn't happen here usually.

EDIT: And a mate, who I shared this pic with, has just told me that the kid is the same 'actor' that played Kal-El as a baby in the first film.
