Six episodes into Tulsa King and I’m hooked.
I went into Tulsa King expecting to be entertained. I didn't expect it to the best new show (imho) this year. I can't wait for Season 2

Between Raquel Welch’s passing and finding out belatedly that Bruce Willis had been wringing out the last drops of his career in direct to video appearances while suffering from dementia, I was pretty bummed this week. I wouldn’t count myself as a massive fan of either but both were comfortably familiar figures who had done some memorable work. Tops for me were Willis in 12 Monkeys and Pulp Fiction, and Welch in Fantastic Voyage. (Although, after her passing, I saw a clip of her brief appearance in The Magic Christian which is simply mesmerizing.) EDIT: Better yet, The Three Musketeers.

Things are pretty slow, but I can report finishing the original Cowboy Bebop series, which I think was good but uneven and ultimately overrated. Hoping to watch the movie soon. I will skip the live-action monstrosity.

I also caught Black Adam on the plane and felt it was a wasted opportunity; DJ and Pierce Brosnan were both very good, as was the soundtrack, and the concept was almost there, but the script/plotting/editing were basically phoned in.

Finally, I watched Disney’s Cars—admittedly zoning out at times since it was mostly for my son and I had some other things to do. But I enjoyed what I saw and I expect I’ll get another chance to watch it, plus whatever sequels are out there.

Currently watching Copenhagen Cowboy, about a girl who brings good luck to people. The first episode was well weird.

I'm sitting watching the UK National Comedy Awards and it peaked in 1993 and reality has been downhill ever since and what even is comedy now? Can we even comedy in the wake of [REDACTED BY AUTOMODDER]?

Julian Clary was hugely popular Down Under in the 1990s.
He represented a time and place for gay culture. His style of humour was certainly to my liking and was pretty authentic.

So....

I definitely enjoyed it. There was a bit of a Star Wars feel to parts of the Quantum realm. A bit less humor, but lots of good action. Two end credits scenes.

Jonathon Majors once again excels here as Kang. His facial expressions were interesting. Don't want to write more, as I'm afraid I'll post something I probably shouldn't.
Just came back, and agreed on all of this. Everyone was talking about Marvel slowing down in this phase and having nothing after Thanos- this really proved them wrong!

Thanos is a heavy hitter on a cosmic scale. Kang can go back in time and change things if he wants to. Normally that just creates a new timeline variance, but that just means we get another Kang.

When you fight Kang, you never know which one you're fighting. Given he's also had other guises (Rama-Tut, Scarlet Centurion and Immortus), we'll likely see some of those (as Rama-Tut is supposedly the bad guy in the Fantastic Four movie). Majors is going to be a very busy man for the next few years. Which is a good thing, cause I haven't seen him give a bad performance yet. I think after I finish Strange New Worlds, I'm going to check out Devotion, since he's in that.

Finished Strange New Worlds tonight. I liked that it was mostly episodic in nature, but some episodes had the storyline of Pike dealing with what he learned while on Discovery. Also got to see crew other than red shirts get offed :clown:

I definitely look forward to Season 2 whenever it comes out. I'll be taking a short Trek break now, and will watch other stuff for a bit. After that, I'm debating whether to start Picard, or jump into S3 of Discovery. I'll also be seeing Cocaine Bear later this week, cause the whole movie looks fun, ridiculous premise and all. Plus it's the last role Ray Liotta did before he passed.

Finished watching Copenhagen Cowboy. It remained weird all the way through. There is a really good Urban Horror setting hidden in there but it is really difficult to see. It looks as though it is heading towards another Season, unless it is canned, so I'll wait to see what that is like.

Tried to watch Below Decks again on Amazon Prime, but it just hangs. Maybe there is something wrong with the Amazon Prime App on my BT Box. I don't really want to watch it on my laptop, as I prefer it on a TV Screen.

Started Beirut on Netflix. Pretty good thriller with Jon Hamm in the lead as washed up diplomat trying to negotiate an exchange for his friend who was captured by terrorists.

If you liked CC you should check out Refn's season of Too Old to Die Young on Prime, although it is even slower and stranger than CC.

His psychedelic viking film Valhalla Rising with Mads Mikkelson is also trippy and fun.

I *think* Below Decks is also on Netflix...?

Enjoying Cunk on Earth on Netflix quite a bit. Lots of deadpan jokes per minute.

I remember Julian Clary's show Sticky Moments was hugely popular everywhere in Australia back then
I presume he was quite a sensation in Britain at that time, but he certainly was a big hit in Australia
I know he was a regular at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and he obviously was huge in Sydney, but yeah all around the country liked his camp antics
Very funny fellow, and still knows how to get a cheeky chuckle from the audience to this day: Julian Clary 2022

Absolutely love Diane Morgan doing Philomena Cunk !!!
My wife and I can't get enough of this lass!

Do you know where I can I find more of her? Already burned through the six episodes on Netflix.

She's one of the main characters in a comedy-drama called Motherland. She's also in Ricky Gervais's Afterlife. And her own show is called Mandy.

What? I just happen to know a lot about Diane Morgan, that's all.

Cunk on Earth is on Netflix, but Diane Morgan apparently did Cunk on Britain before that, which would have aired on one of the BBC Channels in the UK.
She has also previously appeared in productions for the BBC (see JAMUMU JAMUMU's entry above). I'm not sure when she started doing the Philomena Cunk character.
I suspect that Cunk on Britain would likely be available internationally via Britbox at some stage.

We started on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds yesterday.
It's not bad, gets worse whenever the characters talk like 'modern' people complete with lack of basic intelligence and empathy. Stories are a mixed bag.
But it's no Tulsa King. New idiom for the year is probably going to be 'not bad, not as good as Tulsa King' with US Television.

I stopped the latest Jurassic movie after 40 minutes and have no desire to pick it up later.

Otoh, Lupin and Brooklyn 99 are fun in their genre.

Watched Devotion finally. I enjoyed it, but only the second half is set in the Korean War (the first half is set prior). I didn't know the story of Jesse Brown, so it was good to go into this not knowing anything. When the war finally hits, there are some well done aerial scenes. Nice seeing the old Corsair in action again; last time I saw them was in Baa Baa Black Sheep on tv

We got about five minutes into the movie, before my wife said, and I quote, ‘F*&^ this $hit off’.
I’m sure the movie can suck amazingly, without my personal experience of it.

I have also started, on my own, to watch Halo.
It looks the part.
But the story is... yeah, easily worse than even the later games.

Also, taking MC's helmet off? Really?
Have we have learned nothing from Dredd?

Caught up with both Law & Order and East New York. I'm now diving into the movie Downsizing, as I saw it was leaving Prime video in a week.

Trying to finish The Musketeers (BBC) before it leaves Hulu. I think it's on Prime also, but not taking any chances. Currently almost done with 2nd season with 7 days left.

What I wish I was watching and will watch when it comes out...

Wow, that looks fantastic.

Here I am on Hulu watching the latest trope-filled action flick from Scott Adkin.

Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday

Pretty forgettable, but better than... Nah, I really should have done literally anything else.

Oh well.

I started The Mayor of Kingstown today and already am several episodes in.
It's good. It's very good. A hundred-fold more depressing than Tulsa King but a great update on the noir/private detective genre, that deals solidly with the intrinsic corruption of the US system at a local level.
Dialogue is great, stories are not for the faint-hearted, Jeremy Renner is a very solid and likeable lead.
Great, diverse cast, very un-PC messages that ring true, dealing with all the real-world ugliness that DELETED FOR POLITICAL INCURSION.

So I can recommend it.

Thanks for TOFTT. I was thinking about watching that. I have now saved time.

I'm not sure I liked it, but I'd watch the second season, if it comes out. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look out for that.

I couldn't find it, but I am now watching Below Decks on my new mini-PC, which works a treat.

While checking my shows on Netflix, I started watching Letter for the King, which I thought I had seen but couldn't remember it. I quite liked it, as a pseudo-medieval romp about a youth delivering a letter for the king. I've marked it with a like, so I won't accidentally watch it again.

As Amazon Prime on my BT Box wasn't allowing me to watch anything, I bit the bullet and bought a mini-PC and a wand mouse, from Amazon Prime. A while ago, I asked in Curry's about a small PC with a remote that I could use to watch TV and the assistant looked blank and said he didn't know what I meant, so I didn't bother looking. However, Amazon Prime can be a good laugh, so I checked on Amazon and found a reasonably priced mini-PC.

Well, it came on Monday, took about 15 minutes to set up. I installed AVG Antivirus and watched an episode of Below Decks using Microsoft Chrome as the browser, but it kept flicking to a black screen every 5 seconds, which was annoying. I tried changing the video settings, having googled it, but that had no effect, so I downloaded Google Chrome and it worked a treat. So far, I am happy with it.

I bought a wand mouse, which is the same as a TV Remote Control with a keyboard on the back, that doesn't have an "@" key so makes signing into sites tricky. It also works as a mouse, just by waving it left/right and up/down, it's a bit fiddly but does the job. I haven't worked out how to do a right-mouse-click but might not need to.

So, all in all, a pretty good purchase.

My wife hasn't seen Seinfeld before so I have been watching that with her each night. Started her with a few episodes of season 1, worked through all of season 2 and some of season three, but jumped ahead to 5 so she could see Jerry Stiller as George's father in the puffy shirt episode (and continued watching about 3 or 4 episodes into that season). Still deciding if jumping around is best or if going straight through is best (one downside of the skip is she didn't get the "I won contest" line in the puffy shirt because we skipped that episode)

I watched Ant Man & Wasp for the first time tonight, cos I've been burned out on superhero stuff. And I say that as a lifelong comic-book fan. I stll have the Ant Man In Quantumania film to watch, obviously, but I do think based on the first two that the Ant Man films are the crown jewels of the MCU.

And now I'm watching The Bourne Supremacy before bed, cos it's on the free SKY movie channel. It's my favourite Bourne film by far. "Hey, let's kill retired Batman! Oops let's kill his girlfriend instead! Barely an inconvenience!"

The third one does away with Luis and his pals. And suffers for it. Jonathan Majors is a positive though.

It is on Prime, but I see it's also on Crackle, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel

Finished Downsizing. I was expecting it to be a comedy, but it got kind of dark towards the end (though it was also positive). I then banged out NCIS Hawaii's latest 2 episodes, and am now on FBI: Most Wanted

Yeah, but I know the BBC has its own channel and other services aren't so good about letting you know what's leaving, so I'm taking no chances! But thanks!

I am watching it and it is odd. At nearly 2 hours per episode, I can normally only watch one per day. The first two episodes seemed completely unconnected, which was odd. Maybe they'll connect things together later on. The second episode was really irritating as the volume was so low that my headphones kept cutting out, as long period of no background noise confuses them.
