I don’t think any millennials were old enough to go to Atari Computer Camp in 1983.What's this millenial shit doing in a Gen X thread? Fuck off to your own thread with your technologically advanced gew-gaws!!
What are you talking about? The oldest Millennials around in 1983 would have been infants. I'm a Gen-Xer right down to the latchkey creds and I cut my teeth on the 8-bit computers of the early 80s. I would have loved to go to a camp like that. At 12 in 1983, I would have been the right age and I had already been writing my own games in BASIC for almost three years at that point. What's this millenial shit doing in a Gen X thread? Ahh, fond memories of plain-suited cops coming by to ask me where one of my best friends was. Can't remember if that was before or after the FBI raided some mutual's home and our computer teacher came to class semi-coherent after dealing with the national media all morning. #Early80sIrvineBy 12(83) half my friends were commiting phone and credit card fraud on a daily to weekly basis. We would have loved that camp.
Now now, some of them would have been walking, talking, and even eating solid food! What are you talking about? The oldest Millennials around in 1983 would have been infants. Wasn't talking about the camp. Was talking about the translucent consoles and laptops. What are you talking about? The oldest Millennials around in 1983 would have been infants. Oh, that post was a while ago. You came in right after the camp post. No matter... Still, plenty of Gen-Xers were buying the trashy-looking translucent stuff; for millennials in a lot of cases but Gen-X was definitely consuming the schlock. Or shall I remind you that the whole clear craze started in the 80s?Wasn't talking about the camp. Was talking about the translucent consoles and laptops.
Heresy!Or shall I remind you that the whole clear craze started in the 80s?
I don't remember a clear craze in the 80's, either. Everything was a dull beige or putty color.Heresy!
Our tech was beige or grey or - if we were proper rich - jet black...and we liked it!
What? None of your friends had one of those godsawful transparent Trimline phones with bright primary color innards?I don't remember a clear craze in the 80's, either. Everything was a dull beige or putty color.
I suspect a lot of people have blocked out the whole early part of the clear craze and only remember the 90s when things really took off.The clear Swatch Watches came out in 85, that's where I suspect the clear craze started.
Was that something that existed or is this a mock-up of some sort?
I'm pretty sure it was a thing. It was posted on FB by Vault of Retro Sci-Fi and they generally post real stuff, not mock ups.Was that something that existed or is this a mock-up of some sort?
My crush on Lea Thompson hit a high after Space Camp. She's just dreamy.Specialist camps and space shuttles? There was an 80's movie for that (or anything else!)

I was 15 and taught logo on apple IIe's, as well as soccer, at a school in Texas.1983 I was 12, in the right age when this camp was advertised, and I am very very very definitely Gen X.
My emerson stereo combo was silver and wood grain vinyl tape.I suspect a lot of people have blocked out the whole early part of the clear craze and only remember the 90s when things really took off.
I should also mention Mr. Machine and those transparent flashlights I remember from the 1970s, but I'm not sure we can count things like that as part of the clear craze.

I was over in Europe patrolling along the old West/East german border. I did snag an Amiga personal computer though when those came out a few years later. hehI was 15 and taught logo on apple IIe's, as well as soccer, at a school in Texas.
I fell for her because of this one scene in the otherwise terrible Howard the Duck.

Which although we may have owned it, it ain't GenX tech as it comes after 1980ish, much in the mid and late-90s and early 00s.
