Duh, then everything's alright then. Why ask for context if you don't take it into account?

Take it into account how? You just made a snarky reply suggesting that you thought your initial interpretation "was obvious", I replied explaining my initial interpretation and you want me to have what ....fucking time travelled and retroactively had a different first impression?

After a discussion in PM with the OP, the caveat has been removed from the post, with no implication by the staff that the passage was intended to cause any offense. That should close the matter.

I think your Canadian-ness is showing, but it seems the matter has been resolved.

To be fair, I missed it too. I thought the problem was that it called the French irreligious. Never knew that French Muslim was anything other than a descriptor. TIL.

It doesn't surprise me that you guys missed the grievance here, since it's a european thing. I didn't miss it though, because you could easily have switched French out with Danish. The whole Muslim thing is mainly tied into the large amount of immigrants in europe, from muslim countries in north africa and the middle-east. That's all I'll say about that.

As The Mad Hatter says, the Muslim faith is a "hot topic" in Europe (not just France and Denmark) because most immigrants from Africa and the Near and Middle East (which unsuprisingly represent a majority of european immigration... at least now that most of Eastern Europe belongs to the EU anyway and don't count as "immigrants" anymore) belong to that religion, and this conflates "religion" with "immigration" with all the obvious problems stemming from it.

France took in 1/4th the number of refugees that Canada did the last two years, but it's not a controversial subject here.

Refugees is not the same thing as immigrants. Here in Denmark this has roots way back to 1960's-70's. Back when we invited a lot of guest workers (actually foreign workers would be more correct). Many of these came from Muslim countries. Many of them settled here and then had their families brought here too. In France a lot, if not majority, of their Muslim population comes from former french colonies.
The hot topic about this is among other things integration or as some would claim lack their of. Mostly this is bullshit.
My late girlfriend was of turkish descent. She came here when she was 3. She always identified as danish. We both experienced racism from both sides because of our relationship.
This post was meant in an informative way, not as a start for a debate. I will not reply further on this subject.

Tagging Bunch Bunch and Baulderstone Baulderstone as I see you guys are online, and TristramEvans TristramEvans since he was the active mod in the thread.

Any chance the thread "A few thoughts/gripes about recent game modern game design" can be reopened? There was a bit of drift that seems to have gotten it locked (as near as I can tell, I may have missed something) but I wouldn't expect that the thread needs to remain closed?

I'm looking into it. I wasn't really watching the thread and didn't lock it so I'd like to see what the reason was for locking it before unlocking it.

I was honestly surprised it was locked. I figure just threadban lategamer and move on.

Yeah, as I explained to the other mods, I originally closed it because my intention was just to give it a bit to cool down then move the tangent here to the Site Discussion forum, but I ended up falling asleep, lol. But everything seems fine now so I'll just leave it alone (as that's a lot of work and I am quite busy this week).

Oh sure! Use the sleep defense! Sheesh, soo much for being omniscient gawd-like forum power from the beyond! I am so let down.

But everything seems fine now so I'll just leave it alone
Oh, but then again you had the divine foresight to actually realize that it would work out on it's own and be fine. Well played. OK, omniscient gawd-like forum standing restored.

All is well, move on people, nothing to see. ;)

It’s alright, I have so many people on ignore that I just saw you arguing with an invisible, silent ghost. I just thought you were going coo-coo.

You should see my TBP account/ignore list. I mean it makes TBP a fairly pleasant experience.
I suspect if I figured out if The Site had one and/or I figured out how to use it, I'd see a blank slate.

We also find the time to be obnoxious on the internets, and it's written "Gauloises" you peasant
This was my preferred brand in high school after reading two of my favorite books, Papillon and Mouth Full of Rocks. I am sure everyone knows about the former but the latter concerned the adventures of an Englishman in the French Foreign Legion during the 80's. I wish I could find that book again, it was great!

I dated a girl in the early 90s who liked me because I smoked Gauloises and went to the art-house cinema. Compared to the rest of the market, Gauloisies had an aftertaste like sherbert. That's what she liked.

I kinda feel sorry for today's kids. 300 000 TikTok followers just doesn't hit the same.

I didn't have very many people on mine when I left TBP. I'm not really looking for an echo chamber so I'm unlikely to IL anyone just for being a jackass or being infuriating at times. That said, there are a few types of bad-faith behaviour that will land someone on my ignore list, and over the 18 months or so that I was at TBP I had to permamute five people (it would have been six but you can't IL moderators). So far at the Pub I have not had to IL anybody.

I never do it, because the imbalance of having someone post about you but you not see it doesn't appeal. I just ignore them and report them if they say something about me.

If they are on my ignore list I don't care terribly what they say about me. They got there because I already decided their signal to noise ratio sucked too much.

Yeah, but their statements could affect others, and I wouldn't even know. That spillover into other threads I can see makes me not do it.

I don't ignore anyone here, because the pub is cool and there's no one to ignore, apart from Fenris-77 Fenris-77 AsenRG AsenRG TristramEvans TristramEvans and if you did that, there'd be precious few posts left to read! (I KID I KID I AM SO SORRY I PUNCHED THE LOW-HANGING FRUIT IT HUNG SO LOOOOOWWWWWWW)

I don't ignore anyone on TBP or ENWorld for the lulz. I might miss some lulz, man. And I find that the weirdest posters inhabit ENWorld, but that's just me.

Awww, come on, man... between the three of us, we've barely got over 54k posts. The Pub has over 408k, you can safely ignore us all:grin:!

You're more level-headed than I. I like to think that I'm a good, chill person, but I'm not. I get waaaay to riled up when people are persistently argumentative with me. I have a few people on ignore because their interactions made my experience here worse and even stressful.

If I'm ever curious, I can click to see their posts anyway.

I'm happier for it. Anything to reduce the frequency of my rage-quitting meltdowns that make me leave the Pub for a few months at a time.

Yeah? Persistently argumentative with you? Like this? And this? What about this, huh? You think that's an argument? Just wait until I hit my stride, buddy!
