Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
I came in here to see what (if anything) people were saying about this. I keep getting pop up in my youtube feed, and finally followed the link. I like the aesthetic they have going on and they are mostly saying the right things about the system, to keep my interest. Definitely an offshoot from pre-3E D&D, but sounds like they are not just going for a tweaked D&D clone or directly competing with OSE or DCC.

I've downloaded the quick start rules to get a better idea of how much of my money they might get.

The real time thing raises my hackles as well, but depending on how it is done it does seem an interesting idea for keeping the players focused and the game moving along. Seems like it would be easy enough to ignore if I don't care for the implementation.
Yeah, I guess we will have to see... It's just too realistic as a concept for me to get my head around at a table where time is normally very flexible. But other than that everything else is shaping up nicely.

This just came out:

I'm always interested in what they do here. I really like the simplicity of the Year Zero engine, to be honest, and I appreciate how this game, just like Alien, has a solid 1-shot "Cinematic" setup. That significantly increases the odds of getting this at the table.

I actually hated the TV show (I made the mistake of reading the comics first), but I could put that aside if this is good enough...

What do other think of this?

I personally have zombie fatigue, so I am on the fence about this. However, it's right inside the wheelhouse of things Year Zero does well. I expect it will be good. I'm going to skip the kickstarter, but I might end up picking this up at some point in the future if it has parts I can use.

Same, to be honest. The stretch goals will not be KS exclusive, and it will actually be cheaper for me to buy this from my FLGS anyway.

This will be an easy pass for me. I like zombie fiction well enough, but I quickly burned out on TWD. I can handle shitty humans in a 2 hour block, but well before the end of season 1, I was rooting for the zombies.

Had this been just a more generic zombie game, I would have been more likely to be interested. Still would have been a fairly easy pass unless they included something particularly interesting. Zombies are pretty easy to do with a lot of systems.

Good points. I feel like I could capture a lot of themes well enough in other systems anyway.

For example: Zombie World. I forgot I owned that!

Like Blammo said above, take my money. I love me some Tal, so I'm in on the big package... this year has been so expensive for crowd funding, BoH, someone please stop the bleeding... Lol

I really just don't see the need for a licensed RPG for this. I got Alien and Blade Runner which received similar comments, but to me those settings have far more going on than TWD.
Granted I lost interest in the first season, and only saw later seasons an episode here or there because it was on, but it seemed pretty generic zombie apocalypse. Other than stating out the main characters (and how many would even use them), I don't see it offering anything that any game with a modern setting and a generic shambler zombie template couldn't do.

Something like Left 4 Dead with a bunch of specialty zombies this would make a lot more more sense to me.

TWD seems like something you would use as a setting book for an all encompassing zombie game like All Flesh Must Be Eaten so the game is less of a one trick pony.

I didn't see anything in the Kickstarter description that made me want to back this one. I've got a number of cool zombie games which seem more interesting than TWD: Infected!, Era: Survival, Z-land and for a versatile toolkit approach I own AFMBE and Rotworld. So yeah, I'm good, thanks.

Come to think of it, I think I'd want to use Savage Worlds for something like this. It's rare that I say that, but I couldn't help it.

I hope that this has not been posted yet (apologies if so). I'll be backing this as well.

Seriously though, what exactly is in non-White Box S&W that is not in White Box S&W (or White Box:Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game)?

I'm considering the Adventurer tier, as I really want that slipcase with the three TSL core books.
Do not want the D&D 5E conversion however - I wish I could replace that with a GM screen in the Adventurer tier
As always, I love the visuals with Tasilanta. Artwork is to die for.
Given my current financial circumstances I'm still debating whether to back this, or sit it out and hope that it gets to retail after this
Because it's set me back another $230 AUD for swag that's at least a year away.
We'll see, but yeah it does looks excellent

You do have the option at a higher level to swap out the 5E version at the highest level with an extra standard rules version.

Just under two weeks to go before Shadowdark pledging closes,
It's proving pretty popular, it's excessively exceeded it's funding target

Multiple reviewers in my Youtube feeds keep showing up to speak about this.
This is a snapshot of a few of the names: Qedhup, Mr Tarrasque, Runehammer, Questing Beast, Dungeoncraft, RetroDM

I know it's an echo chamber, but it does seem to be a bit of a buzz considering this is still a kickstarter project and not an open retail product (yet).
Just sayin'

She has a reputation for quality stuff and did a very good job building the hype by reaching out to many of the people on that list and requesting reviews and interviews. I've run into marketing on every single social outlet I frequent, so it was definitely done the right way. There is a poster on Reddit who has been banging the drum and claimed it is "THE VERSION OF 6E THAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!" before the Kickstarter had ever even launched, and that enthusiasm has been amplified since it opened. Her primer/quickstart has been out for a while and already has some TPP stuff for it.

Personally, I have zero interest in Shadowdark and will be passing on it, but I can understand why it is an OSR darling. If I were to launch a game I would probably try to hire her to run the marketing.

I don't think it hurts that it is basically ready to go. Expected in June or July of this year, not 6-18 months out like so many RPG kick starters.

That's why I got on board. This isn't some theoretical concept that will be written and playtested over the next 2 years. As soon as the campaign is over, backers will get the full, final PDF. Printed copies will be done ASAP.

Just read a positive review of Shadow Dark in a main stream publication which was a little surprising. I can't find the video but I saw one where she mentioned playing D&D with old school TSR people so she does have some OSR street cred.
Including pictures at table with the one guy GMing her and others that I saw from some interview that I read.

That's the gold standard of Kickstarters which RPG creators would be wise to emulate. I have participated in all but the first of Jeffrey Talanian's Hyperborea Kickstarters and the material is always near completion when it's announced. I don't buy into the "I got a really cool idea, send me some money and I'll write a game!" nonsense.

I can see a certain amount of work to be completed, being reasonable. Primarily art and editing which may be a cost waiting for the project green light, but the manuscript should be mostly complete. I know people like stretch goals but a lot of big stretch goals should be kind of a red flag.

Seems she was refereeing in Gygax's basement at Gary Con when the Kickstarter broke a million.

I still can't figure out if it's just FOMO pulling me in or something else. That price point is still daunting for a PDF, and though I could go dead tree and it then is more in line, I'd never crack it open and I'm already in on several.

I've been waffling back and forth for similar reasons. In the end, i decided to go with a hard copy of the core book (like you, I found the PDF pricing to be ludicrous).

I finally decided to go in because it has some rules that will help me sell Old School Essentials to my friends. Also lots of great random tables in a great format that are easy to reference and use at the table (as with OSE).

I cancelled Dungeon Denizens as well. May pick up after release.

Shadowdark is also in that category. PDF is more than I want to spend. Print copy is intriguing but the 4 normal plus limited edition is so tempting. Particularly when you average the price out. I like the idea of the random rolls for improvements, even though I’d probably just overlay that as a per level improvement on OSE.

For sure. However, these rules are all in the free Quickstart. I'm hoping that there's more in the actual complete rulebook.

If there isn't... I'll be a bit annoyed.

I ended up backing this, and I'm not even that big on the OSR scene, there is just a lot going for it.

It seems a nice take on the OSR that isn't just another clone, enough to be familiar with enough to be its own thing. As a kick starter it seems to be well done with a short turn around, and she seems to have a good handle on PR. The ads on youtube look professional, and she is obviously working youtube creators for additional attention. It would also appear that the author has managed not to get into any controversy which has hindered some games.

Maybe it will fade into obscurity like so many OSR games, but there are a lot of good signs that it could become the next big alternative OSR game like DCC and OSE without being too close to either. Anyway I figured this was worth backing, with a better chance of getting off the shelf than some I own.

Here's a Kickstarter that's not to be trusted.

I mean seriously? Evil buggers! At least they put the war geese front and center.

I don't back many 5E projects, but I like the unusual and this looks interesting. I don't think I have any other games featuring war-geese.
