No real preference, all are playable. I'd go with whichever one you rolled first unless he died.
The first one I rolled with real dice is Volodimir (as stated above, PC1 and PC2 are rolled with the generator, and I actually noticed the only bug while reading them).
I'm going to play Volodimir Drumev-Aso, then:smile:!

(Technically, he's the third I rolled with real dice. The first one was, if I remember, the late Andrej Ilich Saito, 464533, died during his first term in the Scout Service. Followed by the late Marissa Leonidova Chen, 56623A, Pilot-1, Mechanical-1, and some skill I'm not sure about...also dead in the line of duty in the Scout Service).

The results are certainly possible if the PC rolled well and got a commission and a promotion in her first term of service.
Every time you reload that page it generates a new npc so the specifics are going to change from person to person who goes to that site.
I'm just making sure the NPCs it generates are within the normal realm of posipossibi for Classic Traveller.

It looks like they are, although it does seem to have been set to roll for money when mustering out more often than most players I've known would choose to do.

Anybody know if there are any good blank subsector hex maps that can be found/downloaded online? I thought I brought a blank with me today but of course it's not in my bag that I bring to work. :dice: Rolling up a subsector with Traveller and Stars w/o Number.

Edit: While I'm at it, any good free spaceship/space station deck plans online? I can make my own, of course, but why work if someone else has already done it? :hehe:

So by my count we have Voros Voros, Stan Stan, Daniel Martinez Daniel Martinez, Séadna Séadna, and AsenRG AsenRG with PCs or rolling up PCs. Bunch Bunch, are you joining as well or just checking on the character generator? Also, Mankcam Mankcam, are you interested in playing or were you just asking about (original) Traveller character generation?

In any case, everybody who's playing, let me know when you've finalized your PC as I want to make sure I put all their information in one spot for ease of future reference. Once I have all the PCs in one place, I can put up an in-character thread: I'll put an alert here with @names so you'll all know when it's up.

I'm pretty freeform and sandboxy so there will be lots of options for PCs. If all the PCs know each other already, that's fine; if not, that's okay too as you'll all start out in the same place with a decent justification. You can make up your own rationales but all of the PCs will have recently mustered out of their respective services either by choice or involuntarily.

As for the game world, it's the year 3018; humanity developed the jump drive almost a thousand years ago and set about colonizing every habitable (and barely habitable) world it came across. There are no known extraterrestrial sophonts; robots and androids are uncommon. Some worlds have mutated humans on them, the result of hundreds of years of exposure to bizarre radiations or other conditions. If psionics are real, you've never encountered any and they're probably filthy mutants anyway. Everybody knows there are hundreds, if not thousands, of planets now home to mankind. Nobody thinks about Earth or remembers it much at all; you'd be hard-pressed to identify it or locate Sol on a starchart--and who would need to anyway? Mankind was never able to form a united government due to diverse political, religious, and cultural positions and traditions, and with the speed of communication being limited to the speed of travel, it's essentially impossible to maintain a large political union spanning very many star systems. As such, most worlds are self-governed, independent, loosely affiliated, or part of small interstellar polities. Some worlds are controlled by a single corporation or owner, some have reverted to feudalism with established monarchies, some are true democracies where nothing happens without majority consent. Technological levels vary from world to world. Most people never leave their homeworld as it is unsafe as well as expensive, and besides that they largely have no reason to do so: travellers such as the PCs are the exceptions.

Anything your PC would know about a place or technology, I'll make sure it's clear. I'll be posting a subsector map in the next couple of days. Your PC doesn't have to be from the area at all and you're free to make up your homeworld; odds are we'll never get back there anyway as we will be on the fringe of civilized space and at the edge of the unknown.

...so you can write a series of stats as "87A58B" with no ambiguity as two 1s side by side will not be misread as 11 and so on.

Yeah that'd be good. Volodimir outranks Nils quite a bit, you probably directed my assault landings, charging ahead to the pirate ships reactors while the rest of us grunts covered you. :smile:

Yes, use the listed prices but be advised that on many worlds they are not going to allow you to walk around heavily armed so you may have to check your equipment and surrender it to security personnel.

How much cash would you advise us to keep around for two months survival. My guy is 22 so accommodations could be quite cheap.

It depends how well you want to live. "Starvation level" subsistence by the book (page 15 of Book 3) will cost 120 credits per month for both "bare minimum" food and "dismal lodging." I'd recommend 1,000 credits if possible if you want good nutrition and decent accommodations as well as a bit extra for emergencies, but there will of course be employment opportunities and nothing motivates a PC to take risks and go on adventures as much as poverty. :wink:

If the initial action will be on one planet, he's going to get a cool ground car to carry stuff in, like tools, and somebody's frickin' halberd.

That's going to depend on what the PCs choose to do. You're all going to start off deposited on a planet after mustering out of your respective services. Whether you stick around long will depend on what you pursue. If you want a ground car, you could have prearranged its purchase via an agent or something like that so it's waiting for you when you arrive.

If you want to lug all that around, you can, but you'll also have a chance to acquire or be given or loaned equipment depending upon what course of action you choose or what jobs you agree to take, etc.

Um not to be too pedantic but I don't believe you can put a silencer on a revolver..

From page 40 of the 1981 rules: "Devices are available which will muffle or eliminate the sound of guns firing, but so far they have proven practical only when applied to body pistols, revolvers, and automatic pistols"

It may be functionally equivalent to a revolver but it my not look exactly like today's revolvers.
 
We'll assume it's a Nagant revolver or a descendant thereof and the "silencer" is a suppressor. Relevant part of the video is at about 3 minutes in:

Where are you seeing "protective cloth"? I'm scouring the books but I only see cloth defined as "ballistic cloth (bullet proof) jacket" and priced at 250 credits.
