Reading the hello thread, Ulairi mentioned Megaversal rules. Anyone out there playing a palladium RPG right now? I used to run a lot of Palladium stuff and have a shelf full of Pally stuff. Yeah the system is a little clunky (Not really more than a lot of others though.) and character creation a little tedious. But overall I enjoy it, and have been part of a lot of great games with it. How about you?
 
Rifts was my favorite RPG by a long stretch back in my teens. I still have a ton of world books and sourcebooks stowed away somewhere. I picked up Savage Rifts when it came out but I have the nagging suspicion that at some point I'll jettison SW and convert the game to the classic system.

I wish I'd gotten the chance to play Palladium Fantasy (which is orders of magnitude awesomer than core AD&D2) and Ninjas & Superspies (one of my favorite games ever. I'd love to see it updated).

I never did get around to play Nightbane but it looks great.

Heroes Unlimited is a flawed gem. I don't think I'd ever run class-and-based supers but HU gives me pause and makes me consider the idea! Bill Coffin's setting books are probably the most fun non-proprietary supers setting I know of, and a serviceable supers sandbox.

Beyond the Supernatural never did grab me — I'm all for Fireballs vs. ersatz-Mythos but there's no convincing masquerade/veil/paradox setting element or mechanic.
 
Teenage Mutant Teenage Turtles is amazing, or at least it was when I was a teenager. My first ever experience of GMing.
 
I've run a decent bit of Heroes Unlimited in recent years. I loved Mechanoid Invasion Book III and The Palladium Fantasy Roleplaying Game first edition. People with SDC and physical skills but not mental skills just bug me, as do martial arts moves that do as much damage as a large caliber handgun.

Oh yeah, TMNT. I was exposed to the cartoon before getting into RPGs and only via Rifts I became aware of the grit in the TMNT&OS RPG and the comics they were based on. (Previously I dismissed the game as kiddie stuff.)

So I sort of missed the TMNT&OS RPG train but I dare say it's the best-loved Palladium game, second only to Rifts.

But now I'm eyeing Feral — TMNT&OS's spiritual heir, powered by D&D5 — with interest.
 
I played and GMed the Robotech RPG a lot back in the '90s. It was okie. The books had a lot of Robotech flavor, which helped. Though I still have trouble wrapping my head around the whole hit points > SDC > MDC thing. :p Not the system per se, but why essentially have three different pools of hit points...

I would definitely be down for playing the Palladium Robotech RPG again though.
 
Rifts was the first gaming product I purchased on my own. I grew up sitting in on my older brother's GURPS games when he'd have his friends spend the night at our house. When I got into high school I fell in love with Rifts. When 3E came out and I dind't like it, I started playing Palladium Fantasy.

I'm a big fan of the Megaversal rules. I don't find them clunky because I think of the system as a toolkit and I approach it the same way I do GURPS. I build the sandbox for my players to play in. I'm going to the Open Housen next year so if anybody else is, I'd love to say hello.
 
See, originally organisms had Hit Points and machines had Structural Damage Capacity but they were almost the same thing. The only difference was that things with SDC could only be hurt if you rolled over Armor Rating to hit. Personal Armor's SDC only protected you if the attacker rolled over your AR to hit. The Mechanoids originally had SDC but by book three they had both. Heroes Unlimited introduced SDC for organisms to give them super heroic toughness. Weirdly enough Hit Points increase with Levels but SDC don't.
 
Palladium's games are a glorious mess. We could wank on about the unending system issues (and be absolutely right), but hot damn those games are tremendously fun in actual play. I don't know what Kevin Siembeda's magic formula is, but I am consistently impressed how much fun his games are at the table when you just go with the gonzo and roll past the system flaws.

I absolutely recommend Palladium Fantasy 1e for any fans of old school fantasy.
 
Aw man I loved reading Palladium Fantasy. There was just something about the flavour you loved despite the system.

I know what I'm hoping comes up next in a humble bundle.

Kevin writes RPGs the way I want them written. Like a guy at my local Weird Pete's telling me how to play the game.

Also I love the Palladium layout. Two columns with fantastic (usually) black & white art. I hate layout that gets too fancy and becomes difficult to read, see 5E.

Check out the new (I use that term liberally since its been out for years) After the Bomb. You might change your mind. Its so much more than what it was. It is freaking awesome.
 
Agreed. After the Bomb is crazy fun. Its not something I run, but I've had a blast as a player.
