I am listening to 90s alt rock on Pandora, but through my stereo system, thanks to a cheapo BlueTooth adapter I bought.

Had a psychedelic surf-music moment the other day and listened to The Mermen "In God We Trust"

Going through my more esoteric stuff

Nice tight band with Leikeli47 here.

They're from Seattle too. I hope that means they come down and play Portland sometime. I'd love to see them live

I will mention some of the stuff I've been listening to these days and talk a little bit about it.
The text may get a little length, I got excited as I seldom can talk and write about RPG and music in one place at the same time.

Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard

Imagine Black Sabbath + Underground Surf Music and you will have something that is close to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. These guys are crazy, initially they may sound strange and different, but if you give them a chance, their music will grow on you.

Great if you are writing some OSR adventure, I believe this sets the tone and the mood to help in the creative process. Also It's called Nonagon Infinity because you can listen to it's nine songs in loop forever, they are made so that the end of the song is the beginning of the next. I would also dare to say you can even loop it in random forever.

Next is Herja by Danheim

Since I'm preparing to GM Trudvang Chronicles I've been trying to set my mind into those ancient days, and Danheim with other folkloric bands (Wardruna deserves a special mention) has helped a lot to fuel my imagination on sagas and myths. It's more on the Ambient and dark folkloric music, so it might not be to everybody tastes.

The next one will be Foreign Buyers Club by Klasey Jones

This lies more on the synthwave movement and hip-hop, I believe it's considered to be Trap. But this man beats are great and very unique. It's great for cyberpunk and modern mood. I also found out It works greatly if you want to fuel your imagination to prepare for Mutant Year Zero of Mutant Chronicles kind of game.

The cover artist is also kind of famous on the synthwave scene, look up for Mizucat if vintage anime is your style.

Lastly will be Apex by Unleash The Archers

"To a world no longer run by the laws of relativity"

This band actually made me return to my younger self and love Heavy Metal again. This album in specif is great, and I strongly recommend for you to listen to it in full, the technical skills of the band is suberp.

It tells a story about a Immortal who awakes from a slumber and has to go on a quest to bring back the sons of a matriarch, so that the matriarch can user hers sons as sacrifice to complete a ritual, she promises the Immortal that It will be able to finally die If it completes the quest. In the end the immortal find's out It has been fooled and has to slumber again, making a connection with the first song that is called Awakening.

It's too much Hype for one music album, and If this doesn't scratch your fantasy itch I don't know what it does.

Also here is a the video clip from Awakening

Hope you guys like any of those artists , have fun !

I'm a King Gizzard Fan as well. Unleash the Archers are from my home town.

my Shazam to figure out wtf this is or remind myself list. A lot of it comes from Shazaming the local high school station or music from restaurants or bars. No real cohesiveness other than my mind. Not all of it I even like after the first couple listens. Some of it I should know and didn’t.

The perfect song for some serial killer (and the singer has some pipes on her too)....

and some good old, hard kicking heavy metal with a female vocalist

So I've somehow managed to watch the second episode of the Epix miniseries Punk, which was about anarchy the punk movement in the U.K. Lots of nice clips and some decent interviews with people who were actually there, including Viv from The Slits.

NSFW Grandad! :fu:

And somehow I've now managed to watch the first episode of Punk. This is a very good series. Episode one is about the early years and documents the emergence of proto-punk bands like The Stooges, MC5 and NY Dolls. It then goes on to talk about the New York punk scene, focusing mainly on the Ramones.

Iggy exec-produced the show and appears as one of the interviewees. He remains, of course, a legend...

The Stooges are one of my favourite rock bands. Just below the Stones I think.

The Stones are as Savage noted in his great history of British punk rock ‘England’s Dreaming’ a huge underacknowledged influence on punk (less so in the States, where Johnny Thunders, Richard Hell, Televison would unselfconsciously do Stones covers).

Since no one asked here is my top five fav rock bands, order can change.

Stones (the Hyde Park performance after the death of Jones is one of their strongest)

Stooges

Birthday Party

Minutemen

Velvet Underground

What was really nice to hear, in Punk episode one, was Iggy talking about listening to the Kinks, who were also an important influence - especially because of that raw guitar sound they had early on.

Maybe I should be posting in the T.V. thread? Anyway Punk episode 3 was about the hardcore scene and it was okay, but maybe not as good as the previous episodes. The highlights for me were the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag clips. It looks like the next and final episode is going to be jumping ahead to the riot grrrl movement of the 1990s. Since Dave Grohl and Thurston Moore have both appeared on the show I was hoping for a grunge/noise episode.

I had just mentioned Alejandro Escovedo in another thread as an example of a young punk who grew into a country-tinged singer-songwriter who can still rock when he wants to. And then he has a brand new set on Tiny Desk.

Ironically, the guy who wrote the song is off on the left cut out of the band shots and receives the least screen time.

Wait, accidents never happen or accidents will happen? These acts need to hash this out.

Punk episode 4 was awesome. Basically a whistle stop tour of what came after hardcore including skate punk, grunge, riot grrrl and pop punk. Plus a fairly balanced exploration of the commercialisation of the genre. And some nice final thoughts on how punk remains relevant in the present day. My favourite interviewees: Donita Sparks and Ian McKaye...

This little guilty pleasure just showed up on my random playlist...
So yes I appear to be listening to this in 2019, and seem to prefer it to a fair bit of the current rubbish doing the rounds

Go ahead and enjoy it, no one will know
