Straight from the hills and the hollers of the Appalachian Mountains is a new open-world sandbox online role-playing experience that you will never forget. This is the kind of campaign that will rock your world!

From the mind of a creative madman who grew up deep back in the hills and way down in Virginia underneath that old Dante Mountain and way up in Martin Holler is the ultimate open world role-play of modern adventure! It's called Dante Mountain Darkness and it is the role-playing campaign of the century!

Dante Mountain Darkness is The Classic World of Darkness the way it used to be and the way you like it!

Set in the hills and the hollers of the Appalachian Mountains during the 1990's and early 2000's and spanning the great states of Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, Dante Mountain Darkness is a return to the good old days of White Wolf and is a rejection of the past mistakes that have been made and are still being made by companies involved with the White Wolf IP's, companies such as Onyx Path Publishing and Paradox Interactive.

This is a campaign that can support multiple venues of role-playing and multiple styles of play. There is no thematic purism, no "One True Way" to play, no pretentious wangst, and best of all, NO METAPLOT!!!!

That's right, for all of those familiar with classic White Wolf games such as Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse, that means all the horrible setting-altering metaplot garbage that plagued the later editions of the games is gone. In other words, Revised Edition and "V5" never happened in this setting and never will

I am going to be the Main Storyteller for this game and I will be managing different groups of PC's in different parties. If this game grows, I may appoint multiple assistant Storytellers.

These are the main character types you can play in Dante Mountain Darkness: Vampires, Werewolves, Mages, Changelings, Street Fighters, Hunters, Senshi, Demons, and Mortals

The following White Wolf game lines are in play as venues....

Vampire: The Masquerade
Werewolf: The Apocalypse
Mage: The Ascension
Changeling: The Dreaming
Hunter: The Reckoning
Demon: The Fallen
Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game
Senshi: The Merchandising

For those not in the know, Senshi: The Merchandising was a fan game for the Classic World of Darkness posted to the internet in 2000 or so. It's basically Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and a bunch of other 90's anime in the World of Darkness.

The rules can be read here from the old website, along with its sole two supplements, one for Sailor Moon and one for Magic Knight Rayearth.

Senshi: The Merchandising Core Rules
Sailor Moon Supplement
Magic Knight Rayearth Supplement

WARNING: This is a game of open-world dark adventure, action horror, political intrigue, and power plays. It is explicitly NOT a game of personal horror. It will contain violence, strong language, dark themes and plot elements, fanservice, anime references, katanas, relentless bashing of the punk subculture, and other things that mopey emo kids and annoying people on the internet will find "problematic" and if you are not comfortable with these elements, then I strongly suggest that you leave this thread and do not play this game. Player discretion is strongly advised.

TL;DR Dante Mountain Darkness is a game of dark adventure, action horror, and Game of Thrones tier-political power intrigue and scheming, not supernatural wangst and so-called "personal horror". If you don't like it, don't play it. And if you do want whiny and pretentious personal horror, then go play Beast: The Primordial and listen to Type O Negative or whatever kind of music stuck up pricks on the internet listen to.

I followed a link here from another site to signal interest, since I haven't played a game of Old World of Darkness since high school. Interested in a Mage by preference (since I never got to play one) or a Vamp (since I've played plenty of those).

Sounds awesome! Both Vampires and Mages are more than welcome and I would love to have you on board for this game!

This sounds neat count me in. I'll play whatevers the group prefers. Most experienced with playing vampire or werewolf but wouldn't say no to mage or even changeling.

Oh by the way have you read rage across apalachia? I remember it being somewhat of a mixed bag.

I have read it and am not really a fan of it, so it won't really factor into this chronicle

Most likely we will use Revised rules (NOT Revised metaplot) where applicable (and 20th Anniversary Rules in the case of Changeling and Street Fighter)
That works for me! I've got those books and I'm more or less a blank slate when it comes to metaplot anyway, so I will re-familiarize myself with mage and come up with a character!

fair enough. Looking forward to how you develop the setting. I can suggest a few podcast if you need some regional monsters.

Oh! is it okay if I use m20 for mage? I gave away my revised book years ago.

Okay so what I'm thinking of is Samantha Blackwood, a young verbena witch who's family settled in the area after leaving Massachusetts around the 1690s. By now of course the family is an area fixture in the minds of everyone, and even if they're a little odd and clannish, they're hardly the only old family that's like that in the area! They have, in secret, kept to the Old Ways since before they came to the New World and the bloodline sees someone Awaken, well not regularly but commonly enough that there's a plurality of them within the family. Because of that, once Sam Awakened, she was packed off to apprentice to her uncle, who is... oh something respectable in the town.

Her uncle acts as a Mentor, she starts out with ratings in Life, Forces and Spirit. She's... very Sabrina The Teenage Witch crossed with Addams Family, if Sabrina grew up a lot and Wednesday was more bubbly and wore pink.

You can use M20 for the mechanics, but the names for the Traditions are going to be the older ones from previous editions and not the "politically correct" changed names from M20.

okay the rough character pitch is this Woody is a bearded mountain of the man who is a newcomer to the area looking to develop real estate,... for wizards. he is a son of ether with the standard matter forces prime spread. basically the character has the resources and is looking to buy a played out mine to flip on the supernatural market. thoughts are welcome

I actually like it a lot. Go for it!

Where on the rural/urban scale are we starting out at? "My uncle, who keeps bees and is mentoring me in my family's blood magicks" works a little less smoothly if you expect us to start out in a more urban center instead of a rural one, as an example

It really depends. Vampires would more likely start in an urban area (Charleston, Huntington, Ashland, Tri-Cities, etc.) while Werewolves and Mages would be more likely in a rural area or a small town.

You could live in a rural area but commute to a town or small city to keep in contact with any of your fellow Magi or other allies if you want.

Never played any of these games. I sat out that era of RPGs for the most part. What does one do once one rolls up a witch or a werewolf, for instance?

well I never played in a play by post before so I may be way off base but I've done a couple of years long chronicles for what it's worth. Werewolf the apocalypse is about buffing up your hero (gain renown by slaying foes learn gift through negotiation with spirits etc) and coordinating resources and forces with your allies if you had the brains enough to have made any before the final legendary showdown which you will almost certainly die at.
Vampire the masquerade is the game of poltics stretched across centuries which basically makes the pcs the errands boys hoping to climb a ladder where every rung is occupied by an immortal. Think shadowrun but you start in debt if that helps.
Mage the ascension is umm... that argument in college on philosophy that really mattered to you at the time. I've seen this one done every which way and twice on sunday. I prefer either space opera style (which the more established fans hate with a passion) or the investigative (think call of cthulhu but when you find the cults you all get new fancy hats).

Hello  I also followed a link from another site to get here. The setting sounds interesting!

Total newbie, have started my first DnD campaign (play by post) a month ago. The guys suggested that world of darkness/chronicles of darkness would be a good fit for me, so I have gone searching for a group to join. I would be interested in playing a vampire, if this game is open for beginners? I really don't know what I'm doing yet, but I have been trying to read up as much as possible ^^"

Welcome aboard! Yes, this game is very much open to newbies and beginners. So if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I am very welcoming of newcomers and vampire characters are more than welcome!

Awesome, thank you! I have the 20th anniversary edition book, but could also get other editions from friends (not sure which, I'd have to ask). Will that work? Are all clans ok?

20th Anniversary works perfectly

All clans are acceptable

In that case, I like the sound of the toreador! My friend linked me this character sheet to fill out, do I just go ahead and do that and then send it to you or what do I do next?

Fill it out and feel free to send it to me or post in the thread whenever you are ready.

So when does it start? I have a concept for a rockabilly hollow one or a NWO agent.

I haven't figured out a start date yet but I can get the game started this weekend if you want.
