What are y'all up to these days?

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
Right now I'm figuring out what to run for Free RPG Day. One game for sure will be Supers! (as I run it every year), with the original members of the Fantastic Four as characters. I might run another set in the DCAU, as the one I ran last year featuring the Suicide Squad went really well.

If not the DCAU, I'm toying with running AFMBE again, with the characters being members of an old folks home at the start of the zombie apocalypse

seems like the goodies are pretty slim this year for whatever reason. I should probably run something. Maybe Sariniya's Curse. 4 players, run it before, etc.
Hmm no Lamentations of the flame princess this year. Bummer.

If I get the time, I'm thinking this summer I might convert my Boot Hill Pima County notes into a PDF and upload somewhere for whoever wants to use it as a setting for a Wild West game.

For my home brew Fallout game my players decided to go to the aid of a local settlement under siege and managed to get about a hundred people to help. So I've written up stat sheets and did counters for everyone involved. It's going to be a hell of a row.

i'm bailing out of this weeks game because of family stuff getting in the way. i'm not real happy with the campaign anyways, and life is burning me out. so i might just let it sit for a while

I need to get back on track with that game.

On another note, I am revisiting my idea of a "Spookydark" setting with a Halloween-like atmosphere.

It's likely to be an OSR style system, with options for modern-era and pseudo-medieval fairy tale settings.

Spent some time tonight doing up parameters for Mythras red hand of doom.. red hand of Mythras? Mythras hand of doom? Red Mythras of doom?

Anyhow, using classic fantasy. Decided I wanted some higher level passions like in Mythic Britain so everyone is going to be from the Vale and have passions tied to the area. Also everyone is good guys, or at least not bad guys. They have stakes and they care.

Decided that at rank 2 (the start, equivalent to level 5-8) they get 3 random rolls on the magic item table. I don’t think I’m mean enough to include the cursed item results. I need to review. But otherwise full equipment, including a warhorse. The random magic items I like. They can trade After among themselves.

Started working up necromancy spells since there are none for a necromancy specialist. Currently have animate limb, which only animated limbs. Essentially the same as animate dead but only one hit location, and a lot less hit points overall. Subject to more wounding because only one hit point, but you can animate ogre limbs and stuff. I’m not overly fond of spectral hand and the chill touch/ghoul touch line. Feels like they could have done better. But we will see what I end up with.

I just found out that First Daughter has become an umbrella fighter without my guidance:devil:. She is also participating in an umbrella-fighting club. Competitions of dubious legality are held at her school, and she is innovating by applying a concept that was obviously lacking from the other kids' technical abilities: Defense:gunslinger:!
And since she's having the other guys copying her moves, she's also on her way to becoming a teacher.
I knew that kids are supposed to surpass the parents, just wasn't aware that it would happen so soon:grin:!

Bartitsu!

Game night wasn’t going to happen for me because of wife being a bit of a wreck. Then things turned around and I went and we had 3 cancellations for various reasons. We ended up playing gloomhaven, sipping, talking about Serious Shit in our lives (my saga with a family member, other guys recent issues with his kid and mental health), and listening to Arabic jazz and electro swing.

Frankly, it was really goddamn nice.

My heterosexual life partner and I went and had drinks on the roof top terrace at a local wine bar before, talked about work stuff that we are working on. Between this and the gaming (I was a bit surprised to hear he liked the Arabic jazz, as it’s something I like), we aren’t getting divorced anytime soon ;)

Love Arabic music of all kinds. Also discovered some wonderful African jazz recently.

Just got done printing most of the stuff that needed printing for GothCon, Sweden's largest gaming convention coming up this weekend. Of course, there are always some problems, so a couple of adventures and schedules will have to be printed tomorrow, and probably lots of stuff will need to be fixed and reprinted on Friday. Still feels good to be mostly done with that bit of prep. Now I still have to see if I can find more GMs.

Just finished reading the Game System chapter from RuneQuest Glorantha. I think the last time I had such a grim smile after reading a damage section was on WFRP critical tables. RQG is dangerous, like real dangerous.

hacking together some stuff. my current campaign is 13th age in primeval thule, and I dislike it, and half of my players do too. So I'm constructing a mythras classic fantasy version of red hand of doom, but I'm importing things from 13th age. currently have a swordmage and an occultist for classes, and just imported the Thulian Narratives as a single percentile skill. what I like about it is that it us quite useful (broad array of skills, essentially - if you have a narrative of "Dhar Mesh hunter" at 55%, you can do dhar mesh hunter stuff at 55%) but it doesn't interact with the class level/rank structure. It means you have to advance class separately. what's more, you could easily have a stack of these - war wizard, bearer of the black book, member of the sweetwater township archaeological society, etc, and it would do it's thing.

I could have it interact with skills, and who knows, I might, but I think for the start I'll just have it be it's own. Some make more sense as skills than others (bearer of the black book doesn't, say, but dhar mesh hunter does)

Wife took the oldest to an overnight waterslide park. I have the 5,3,18 month old. She's teething so I'm up most the night.

Also working on my TV inlaid gaming table since with her away there's less distractions.

The playing surface will be 6' x 4' with a 40"ish tv inlaid in. The rail way will be 5.5" wide so the total table size will be around 7'x5'

It's a good learning project.IMG_20190423_073900-01.png

GothCon is over and all the stress of the past few weeks has now fallen away. I did have to hand out more refund notes for groups that didn’t get a GM than the previous two years, which sucked. Managed to actually get in a play session for myself though, which was good.

Overall, the convention was a success, so I’m happy. Already looking forward to next year. Anyone looking to get some gaming in in Sweden could do far worse than visiting Gothenburg next Easter.

What am I up to? Well, mostly freeform type RPing lately. We just sit down and play pretend with our characters.

I'm getting the itch to do something more formal though. You know, chuck dice, have character sheets, blah blah.

I was on a Cross Ange kick. I love the mecha from the show. And despite the extreme ecchi and fanservice elements of the show, it does have an extremely good RPG hook. Characters are branded as criminals and shipped off to a military installation/prison where they serve as mercenary mecha pilots in a fight against dragons.

So, since I'm mostly an idiot and seemingly into pain, I started statting up some stuff on Palladium's MDC system. I was basically getting enough detail on mecha, enemies, and characters so if the spur of the moment urge to run it struck me, I could have a passable first couple of sessions while I filled in the detail and otherwise tweaked things.

I have a few other ideas I'm kicking around, but that's the only one I've done any actual work on beyond brief daydreams.

I don't know if we have a "Historical Tabletop" thread or not so I'll put this video I found here:

The Royal Game of Ur.

I've tried to collect historical tabletop games. The British Museum puts out nice versions of most, although often quite expensive. Best combination of price and production values is their reproduction of Hnefatafl:

Some you can actually get into and play for a while, but the Royal Game of Ur gets boring pretty fast!

Kia ora,

I'm running an after-school RPG Club where I teach (currently running a TMNT-inspired Everywhen game using the Manimals supplement I just wrote for it), running a Far Away land campaign at home for my family, writing another Everywhen supplement, and have just finished writing a Far Away Land supplement too. I'm just returning to writing after stepping away from it for years, so it's quite exciting for me.

cheers,
Colin

Yep, Dirk worked hard on the OSR version and is very interested to see how it does.

I helped a lot with the standalone system books for the previous multi-book KS under my Jargogle pseudonym. The supplement I just wrote includes a complete new continent called Nuzoz.

It's nice to be chilling out while writing again, and selling Atomic Highway was one of my best decisions.
