Your back garden seems to have flooded.
Well, that's just the front walkway...the front and back yards are much larger. :goof:

Speaking of larger, now that the rain has given way to sunshine I've cleaned out the garage and it's amazing how much larger it seems. We had stuff from pre-children days in there, not to mention old baby and toddler furniture. Now I'm waiting for the junk hauler to take it away.

The heat in Vancity area is oppressive today. I moved as far away from Texas as I could, and I still have to deal with this horrible sun.

If my yard ever floods Seattle has real problems....
I'm on a lake on the high side of the locks. My yards behind a bulkhead.

Came across an old drawing by my son, probably from a couple years ago, while cleaning the bedroom: Captain Bat, who is "brave like a soldier and strong like a bear." Helpful arrows indicate his mask and cape.

Speaking of floods, when I returned to work this morning I discovered that a leak in the ceiling over my desk had caused the ceiling to crumble and fall down. It is currently "raining" onto my work station. I wish I could upload the video. It sounds like that sequence in Alien when Harry Dean Stanton is looking around in the dark for Jones the cat, with those hanging chains and water falling on his face. I've had to commandeer the training room.

He seems miffed about something.

Have to talk about this here, because can't bring it i up on Facebook because of who might see.

OK, so Mother's Day last Sunday, headed over to my GF's parent's place, and baked a pecan pie (Her mom's fav), some halibut In a Bearnaise sauce, garlic butter prawns, and potatoes au gratin. We had dinner then watched the latest GOT .

During dinner and through the show, my GF's mom (Sheri) is drinking some nice wine, so she's a bit tipsy by the end of the night. Anyways my GF and her dad are in the kitchen doing the dishes after, and I'm sitting in the living room talking to her mom, and the subject turns to Japan, as it often does, as Sheri and her husband lived there about ten years in the 60s-70s.

I'd heard many stories over the year, and of course they have cabinets full of souvenirs, but I never really knew what they were doing for work over there. The dad is in real estate now, and Sheri was an architect at one point.

But what I found out that night blew my mind. I mean, the last thing you'd expect from these elderly, good natured, very Canadian, very conservative folks.

Anyways turns out Sheri was hired in Tokyo to design and co-run these underground clubs. At first that was as specific as she got, but I'd mentioned seeing online these "snuggle cafes" in Japan, where you pay to basically lay in these beds and get cuddled by a young girl. And that's when Sheri reveals that her club was basically a front for a Yakuza prostitution ring! My GF's mom was essentially a Madame for a Yakuza brothel! She even talked about the place getting raided by the police!

The snuggle cafes remind me of Kawabata's great novella House of Sleeping Beauties where an old man pays to sleep next to young women who are in a drugged sleep. I wondered if that was a real thing. Must have been.

I think I told my story about an older 50+ woman who dressed impeccably and had perfect manners that I worked with. On my last day she reveals during lunch she once helped break her heroin using boyfriend out of a Mexican jail in the 60's. The final comment was "But Don't ever mention that to my teenage daughter".

Similarly mind blown.

I also was told not to mention it to my GF, one of the reasons this is one of the few places I could mention it without it getting back to her

My house got burned. If I catch the one that dunnit, expect broken bones.
Like burned down all stuff lost or like mom burned the kitchen down again?

So, good news. No kidney stones this time.

Bad news, there is a cyst on one of my kidneys. I am to go see a urologist.

It’s usually nothing serious. Hang in there.

We had heavy rain this morning. Seen on the way back from YMCA swim class:

Rio’s been rocked by heavy rain yet again yesterday, with multiple accidents partially blocking important freeways and one collapsed tunnel (luckily no casualties).

My kid turned two today and we have a major party set up but we were already anxious about the rain... and now he’s woken up sick. So not the best of days here. Wife is very very anxious and it does help that our surviving parents live in the same town but I still have to hold the emotional line most of the time and fffffffffuuuuuuck

My sympathies brother. I know that in spades. It does get easier, though it might not be soon. Make sure that you get some time for yourself - a little working out, a little creative energy outlet, a little sip a beverage. That particular period was pretty frustrating at points, but it gets better

Also, already 2? Good lord.

Flies by, doesn’t it?

I’m fine on the beverage sipping department. Creative outlet and working out need work, tho. A lot of work.

yea. same thing happened to me. There were periods where I was really creative in there, but others (like the last 2 years) where it just didn't happen. and exercise has been a struggle forever, but I am finding stuff.

But, new campaign, quite excited, even did up a calendar for it using Baha'i months for days and month names, and decided on a two moon sky. so I feel like I'm open and ready.

Anyone else here back the Fantasy Grounds Unity Kickstarter? Tempted to try running a game using it when the beta is released.

I have yet to get out of the two year old stage after seven years and four kids. I plan for zero more so maybe in six months i can finally have a little peace. Can't wait for everyone to be able to poop without assistance and be able to self entertain without hurting themselves.

Now if I can get my wife to realize the kids aren't made of glass I might be able to sit and enjoy the kids.

Yeah, when you're being stoic and rock-like for other people, there's always a little voice in your head saying "Wait, who decided I was qualified for this?"
All of this. Wtf folks, why me? My wife and I are this for both sides of the family. JFC, I appreciate the vote of confidence but we struggle too

Saw a friend today I haven’t seen in a while and he was like “you dropped out of BJJ? Fuck, you loved it!” And I was like “yep” and he was like “yeah, I see that” (two kids, the youngest my kid’s age).

Creativity for me requires feeding with novel stuff. And all I have time for right now is terribly derivative, i.e. TV and movies. My copy of The Anubis Gates has been gathering dust for months now. Let’s not even get into gaming, or the lack thereof.

If I catch a break in the next month I’ll give Masks of Nyarlathotep a good read, and hopefully run it via video chat.

Yeah, I’m ok with it actually, in that I usually get to pull it out, but... my wife and I tell each other that it’s ok for one of us to freak out as long as the other one’s holding it together. I tend to hold it together more often, on account of being a little less anxious, but lately it’s been adding up and becoming more taxing.

We’re getting a break from non-routine commitments in the next week — I had three lectures in a row and she’s been planning and setting up the party all by herself — and hopefully Baby Butcher’s new fever is just a bump in the road, so I hope we get to catch our breath and I can get around to fixing everything at home that needs fixing, get my ass to the dentist, etc.

And maybe get some reading done.

Why is it so hard to get to the dentist?!?! I last saw one seven years ago shortly before my first was born. I feel like finding time for a haircut is hard enough even then I usually have two or more in tow getting them cuts.
