  • I peered in the Abyss (TBP's Infraction board) & was deeply troubled!
Why? Because some of the Most Faithful seem to have troubles now! I mean, ifold A.Sudonomo is in trouble now, who wouldn'tbe:shock:?
I'll make my "Create Your Own Wuxia Sandbox" thread here instead of boring ye all kindly souls who put up with my posting:grin:!

#0: My sandbox is going to be the City of Fragrant Pearls (name subject to change!), a place that never existed in China, but should have (for that matter, China would have been better off being like a wuxia setting), where mystics striving for immortality rub shoulders with eunuch sorcerers!

4.5. Huang Tao is officially a porter, living in #4's house for a pittance. That he is, but he is also a thief, specializing in home robberies. He especially likes stealing jewels by rich women. He assumes Huang Min#4.6. to be a kung-fu courtesan due to her good looks (and he believes she beats people for #4).

4.6. Huang Min (not related to #4.5. by blood) is a small-time fence with good light-skill that she uses for her job. She is also living in #4's house, and acting as security. She knows something is amiss with #4, but is unwilling to ask - and more than willing to pretend she beat some hapless offender.

    7. Shui水 Yan building a giant Buddha statue...using her hands. Shui only has one kung-fu talent, using her hands with power - but that talent has been developed to a really high level!
Lesser-known fact: she is doing the statue to ask for a prophecy as to who killed her mistress, Yun雲Li, the notorious Blood-painting female robber! (It was Gu#5.3).
The talk about Doom in the "Making comic book Earths immersive" just gave me an idea...
There's a GM in my family who I'd like to run wuxia for me. But her interests and education don't exactly run in that direction.
So what if I suggest to her running a street-level superhero game, instead:grin:?
Someone plese tell this guy that it's the games he plays that suck (or his GMs), it's not the RPGs as a whole:grin:!
I keep thinking about a campaign inspired by Eric van Lustbader's Ninja series...and Destined would fit it like a glove:shade:!

Also, I ran a one-shot exactly like that with Destined. The PCs saved Zelenskyy - in a totally apolitical, sandbox way...they actually had an option to help the hired hitman.
Some details of that adventure shall remain unknown to the public forever, though.
I just found a good comparison for "playing a game in a different system, say in Mythras instead of D&D": it's like making a piano cover of a pop song (or vice versa, if you're using D&D instead of an original system:devil:).
Fuck it, I wish holmgangs were still allowed!

...AsenRG, while watching how an older colleague is indoctrinating a younger one into his political, ahem, ideology. Which happens to be an ideology I find abhorrent.
    I renewed my library card.
Turns out, the reading room is a great place for preparing for sessions. And they let you get your Kindle in there.
...aaaaaaaaaaand now I know that I'm/was a moron. OTOH, that means I have a breakthrough for my system, and am no longer a moron.
Moar2be posted later. But at least I finally have a reply to a question Silverlion Silverlion asked me a while ago:shade:!
Some (Bulgarian) guy on FB is suffering, questioning himself "where the Bulgarians have always been 'bearers of the pentagram'"...and I'm perplexed. WTFF? Anyone has context?
A creationist managed to get me to revise my opinion on evolution...
Me, on FB: "...your ancestors, the apes..."
Creationist: "I'm a human and my ancestors are humans!"
Me: "You're right, obviously it's not right to call the apes 'ancestors'. It seems many people are still apes!"
Team Creationist just scored a point.
So, a city modeled after Spain in the roughly 17th century. Fantasy setting where the Spain is a theocracy. I have to offer the PCs, a rag-tag bunch, 3 things to do...a conflict with the Not-Russian-Not-Mafia is one. A fetch quest from Not-North-Africa is another. What's the third?
I think I just resolved the issue with Resource Dice...

Still slowly digesting this one, my reading speed isn't what I'm used to when reading in Portuguese. But I'm doing my best!

Though I got sidetracked while preparing for the one-shot I'm planning to run.
Just found a funny SF webcomic. "Society in the Future has evolved in some areas...but also took a page from Demolition Man and took it seriously. I mean, No Touching".
NSFW, obviously (and LGBT characters abound, if anyone cares).
Still, it's rather good, and with surprisingly little violence. Though they have kinda-hockey.
My plans to run a one-shot of Fighting Thee Geese Conspiracy are getting more and more concrete and getting into the system. Still undecided which one I would pick, but I know the characters would have Swo points.
And bonus points for selling it as a serious game!
And now I'm looking for an RPG where weapons give bonuses and penalties to hit (variable damage optional), inflict different damage conditions...and if possible, the number of actions per round varies according to a roll, but I'm willing to compromise on that one:grin:!
But the bonuii to hit and damage conditions are mandatory.
Anyone knows of one? Or do I need to start a thread?
That was a Nietzsche quote. Alas, I can't save the picture, so you get a pointless status instead:thumbsup:.
Post-apocalyptic scenario seed in this post:
That's it, I've decided on where my next campaign is going to be set: A garden surrounded by a jungle.
I'm not going to tell you why because it might be kinda political. Suffice it to say, I just liked the imagery:thumbsup:!
Now if I only knew when I'm going to run anything, too!
I've been thinking about the isekai genre lately. What does it tell us that a) it's getting more popular lately and b) every time I hear about it, it almost invariably mentions the protagonist going after sexy alien chicks:shade:?
"Canada's D&D cuts buyout offer for Australia's Link under regulator probe". A misleading title if you're an RPG player!

"That's Dad when he's happy!" - First Daughter.
...do I really look like that:shock:?
I've been thinking about gamebooks (the Fighting Fantasy/Bloodsword/Way of the Tiger kind), lately. And about superheroes. Now what can I do if I combine both? Hmm...

Slavic-looking grappler-fencer in my case, but that's a great compliment either way:thumbsup:! I do strive to incorporate some things from Fedor's style, indeed. Not sure how successful I've been, though.

Also, I used to have (almost waist-)long hair before deciding to give grappling a go, which is why I suggested Rasputin:shade:.

I tried as a joke to make a system for playing in the setting of a Bulgarian urban fantasy series. About 15 minutes after putting pen to paper, I realized I'm writing a modern, heavier version of Sorcerers of Ur-Turuk/Ars Magica, except I'm using 2d6.
Now I'm wondering whether the author has played SoUT or AM. Or maybe Talislanta 4? He's in the right demographic.

Who here is from the Philippines? Or elsewhere in Southeast Asia? I want recommendations of authentic music!
To clarify with an example, it's way too easy to find "folk" music that carries the country's name, but the natives immediately recognize as not authentic. (I found some such examples of Bulgarian music recently).

No, I meant which specific performances would rate as authentic. For example, I found recently something named "Bulgarian Folk Music" which...wasn't.
Now, I'm all for an artist using our music for inspiration - the only problem is that it wasn't announced as such. Thus, a foreigner might come to the wrong conclusion about Bulgarian music.
So I want to avoid those videos.

Pushed rolls in CoC7e, example.Me: "I play the piano to impress the ladies at the gathering".

    Dice: "You fail, sucker!"

Me: "I see I'm failing, and I try to improvise something to cover it up". (Fully possible according to my piano experience).

GM: "It's a pushed roll - if you fail, you're going to have to suffer some negative social consequences".

    Me: "Pass me those dice".

Same thing would apply for combat, I imagine. "I try to take him down, hard, osotogarying the fuck out of him". "You fail to unbalance him backwards, and he prevents you from putting his leg behind his". "I use his resistance to switch to a sacrificial throw, like sumi-gaeshi". "If you fail, you're going to end up under him, with him in a prime position to batter you". "I know. I still do".
"Have you ever been in shape?" - rando elder woman visiting the same fitness as me. She has no issues with the stretching parts, herself, for which I kinda envy her...but not for running out of gas on the strength parts of the workout.
"Yes, I have been - earlier. Besides I'm in an ideal shape now as well: a round one, an ideal form in geometry" - me, not paying much attention (other than being surprised).

    Compare and contrast...
"Don't worry about not being able to do more than 6 push-ups. I was in a similar shape when I joined the gym...and you've got better stretching than me already." - me, also today, at the BJJ academy "Open Mat", towards an woman younger than me. I don't know her name, either, and I think I've seen her twice before (unlike the one in the main post, which I'd never seen before IIRC).

And now I'm wondering: what is it about martial arts that makes people (relatively) more considerate towards physical limitations?

Is it the concept that you must strive to improve your whole life? The concept that everyone is walking his or her own Way? The fact that you can substitute skill in other areas to compensate for physical weaknesses?

For now, I'm going to bet on "the higher odds of getting your behind kicked if you behave improperly", though:angel:.

Mind you, my coach is finding it funny that I'm still struggling with some relatively simple (even for newbies) exercises. But he probably also finds it funny that I can and do roll despite that.
"Because we are experiencing an accumulation of at least four crises..."- Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the ITUC.
