I've been thinking about gamebooks (the Fighting Fantasy/Bloodsword/Way of the Tiger kind), lately. And about superheroes. Now what can I do if I combine both? Hmm...
“While evidence says that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, they're probably all on first steps.”
― Terry Pratchett, Hogfather
“Coffee is the friend that wakes you up in the morning.”
― Anthony T. Hincks
I tried as a joke to make a system for playing in the setting of a Bulgarian urban fantasy series. About 15 minutes after putting pen to paper, I realized I'm writing a modern, heavier version of Sorcerers of Ur-Turuk/Ars Magica, except I'm using 2d6.
Now I'm wondering whether the author has played SoUT or AM. Or maybe Talislanta 4? He's in the right demographic.
I always find it funny when a self-avowed satanist is talking about the "moral and spiritual corruption of society". Can I find a high priest of Slaanesh speaking about this in any adventure?
Gaming youtuber Seth Skarkowsky makes a list of videos with 33 "gamemastering mistakes".
Me: "I get well over a 20 on this!"
Also me: "But then he recommends fudging rolls. I doubt his opinions are really relevant to my games".
Who here is from the Philippines? Or elsewhere in Southeast Asia? I want recommendations of authentic music!
To clarify with an example, it's way too easy to find "folk" music that carries the country's name, but the natives immediately recognize as not authentic. (I found some such examples of Bulgarian music recently). DDammit ViktorVoros?
"Have you ever been in shape?" - rando elder woman visiting the same fitness as me. She has no issues with the stretching parts, herself, for which I kinda envy her...but not for running out of gas on the strength parts of the workout.
"Yes, I have been - earlier. Besides I'm in an ideal shape now as well: a round one, an ideal form in geometry" - me, not paying much attention (other than being surprised).
Today (technically yesterday) was Saint George's Day here, a national holiday...and personally for me, one of the greatest days I've had. Especially lately.
I needed that!
From Westlands: "Equipment
This chapter describes common tools, weapons, and other items used by adventurers, sorcerers, barbarians, and plucky Earthlings trapped underneath alien skies".
Best chapter description ever!
I just had to edit out the name of a French official. Why? Well, because part of it is the same as a word that means "cock"...and not as a birdie.
Now I'm wondering what my name means in Swahili, Japanese and a few other languages.
I think me, CRKrueger and Raleel should make an official welcoming ceremony for Necrozius for his joining of the Cult of Mythras. Loz could give us some suggestions, maybe.
Preferably stuff that doesn't involve killing bulls. It's hard to arrange over Internet.
Séadna you would probably be glad to learn that I'm now running a Delta Green adventure set in Modern Ireland...and heavily inspired by your thread and the explanations on the Sidhe/Tuatha de Danan.
Today was a great day. First Son went to BJJ and liked it! He even behaved well.
Second Son declared he wants to go where Big Brother and Big Sister are going.
Then we had grappling night before going to sleep.
Also, you know it's about to be a weird year where you spend a lot of time on the Pub, when you dream of your own SF setting and add two Pub regulars in the dream...as key NPCs (notifying robertsconley and Ravenswing here)!
My wife is obviously a purer Bulgarian than me. She spends most time in overdrive, trying to resolve problems...
Often, problems she has created herself by insisting on a particular way of doing stuff.
Pure-blooded Bulgarian, I'm telling ya!
I felt weird today.
I saw a group of obvious schoolchildren (definitely below 14 yo). They were trying to be offensive to each other... using the so-called "N-word"...
I mean, WTF? None of them was black. Odds are they've never seen anyone black IRL (it's Bulgaria here).
I expect Odysee to have a bigger following in Bulgaria, and possibly in Serbia and North Macedonia...
Why? Because in Bulglish, Serblish and Northmacedonglish, "Ody See" clearly means "Go See". If local internet users don't find that hilarious...well, then I know neither my compatriotes, nor our neighbours!
Which might well be the case, as COVID proved.
I'm just sooo tired of scandals with the family!
How tired? Well, tired enough that I'm at the point where I have been considering dropping RPGs altogether. I mean, we tend to play together, adults in the family are part of my group, but lately this just leads to more screaming and nagging.
And I really can use a break from that!
But honestly, if the scandals continue, one of us would have to go. Regardless of RPGs.
I just read the description of the "Queen of Martian Catacombs" and the changes made to the original story to turn it into "The Secret of Sinharat". Still torn which one I like better...but they also show well the two different approaches to RPG Refereeing.
Started BJJ. I don't expect to ever have an use for most of the ground moves on the street...but it's as much fun as I remember it to be, the trainer and the group are nice, and I'm getting in shape.
By which I mean "lost about 2,6 kgs in three practice sessions". I kid you not.
I just managed to retell Heinlein's Time Enough for Love in less then a page. The amazing thing is how useful the word "fuck" was in that exercise!
Also, when it comes to survival, Lazarus is like many of my PCs. When it comes to family, not quite.
It's amazing to watch the reaction to the nuT$R expressing some opinions held by the majority of people in my country.
But this ain't about the opinions themselves, thanks to Rule 0. I'm just wandering what a native Tekumelian would feel like listening to the talk in a pub in Golarion or the Forgotten Realms!
That might be a campaign idea, or at least an idea for a Traveller PC!
Some worlds in the 3I are different.
And COVID-19 took away my mom. Who didn't vaccinate because vaccines are dangerous for people her age, or someone had told her so...
Don't do like her!
So now I'm curious what you imagined me looking like... Rasputin
