    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

No just altitude. It’s a dead planet, no water other than the poles so I thought making one of the dead oceans “deeper” then the other would add some variety! I don’t think the rather monotonous terrain will sustain a long campaign, but I hope to get some sessions out of it.

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

This is made in Worldographer. I made black circle shapes and widened the width until they covered the edges of the white hexes of the planet map and then just filled the remaining hexes with the cosmic “stars” tile. I’m sure there’s a better method, they aren’t quite level which is irritating me!

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Just a little nod to Barsoom!

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Just can't stop thinking about space horror. I realize that attention to real-life detail is not my strong suit and trying to gamify Mars is going to give me more anxiety than pleasure. Here's Tharxis V, my Mars analogue for a Mothership game that seems like it might be getting closer to...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Yeah, as far as I know there's no legal PDF, which is a little irritating. The book is very cool, not sure I'd use it as is though. I'm really debating just adding a few years to the official Delta Green timeline and having Outpost: Mars a part of the campaign world. As per the blurb: "2017...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Just made me wonder how Masks of Nyarlathotep would play in Space: 1899! I've never played it, nor know much about the game, but could be very interesting. I wonder what other campaigns could be ported over.

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

I like it! I feel Mars really gels with the idea of Time for some reason. When I think of Mars I somehow think of death and resurrection, or see it as a foreboding picture of what far future earth could look like. It reminds me a bit of Zothique, for some reason. I'm reading through the...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Absolutely, there has to be a buy-in by the players regardless of what position their characters occupy. I find investigative groups in horror games run the gauntlet from cheesy and forced to amazing. Delta Green, for example, is one of my favourite in-game rationalizations for groups dedicated...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

I think this is an excellent question and one I don't think all published horror modules take into account. If I had the time to prep such a thing I'd like all my scenarios (or situations, given a sandbox design) to have a separate table or list of escalation points that come into play if the...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

I would agree there, I specifically like the idea that you don't know until the paycheque arrives. I also love having PCs involved in mundane jobs, and investigating either on their off days or as a consequence of something that pops up at work. All too often, I'm running games where the PCs are...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Handwavium works for me! I would only find one instance of artificial gravity in the PDF anyway, and it was just the offhand mention in a table for ship damage effects. I may still use some BRP derivative to run it anyways, but I will be applying liberal doses of handwavium either way! I quite...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Speaking of modules... As an exercise, can anyone think of pre-published investigate horror modules that can easily port over to a Martian setting? Delta Green's Observer Effect is one of the only scenarios whose imagery really effected me. It looks like a tough scenario to run, I'm not sure...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Oh I like this, that's very sinister indeed! Is it too fantastical to imagine that higher-quality Dome condos have their own heavier gravity? Or sleep-pods? I wonder how you would do that in a larger settlement like the Mars City map above. Maybe the most destitute of the workers can't afford to...

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

Definitely, I've been watching the games and they have a lot to offer for this kind of game. This first one in particular! I'd love to see a "Dead Mars" or similar game.

    The Horror...the Martian Horror...

It looks like there is artificial gravity in the pdf, but only mentions it in regards to spaceships. I assume we can extrapolate that to space stations/moon bases, but a low-grav prison also sounds pretty cool and particularly difficult to infiltrate or escape from.
