Taken from this “state of mongoose” thread:

“Shield Maidens
Written by Alison Cybe, this is a brand new Viking/Cyberpunk style game in which you join the Shield Maidens, a group tasked by Freya to resist the empire of Fenrir and prevent Ragnarök from destroying the universe. The might of the Shield Maidens is tested at every turn, and they have only their training and sacred Guardian Shields to battle enemies across the nine realms.

The gods are nowhere to be seen, abandoning humanity in favour of the endless war they wage against one another. Elves and humans clash over Ymir’s blood, ripping Midgard to the core to uncover ever greater resources. Dwarves have ascended, no longer troubled by the concerns of mortality, and even the dragons and Jötunn stand aside, caring little for the troubles faced by those in Midgard as humanity wilts under the oppression of a fascistic government. The time of the Shield Maidens has come, but even the strife in Midgard is miniscule compared to their greater task, renewing the cycle of time and ushering a new spring in the aftermath of Ragnarök.

Expect to see more from Shield Maidens around April/May 2022.”

Sounds really cool.

Neon runes, man.

Neon runes.
Pink neon runes decorating your cyberarm and Glowing purple cyber face tattoos illuminating the knot work inside the jarl’s boardroom. Illicit drugs like genetically modified Amanita muscaria which grants a blood thirst and rage under the slang term Odin-kissed. Sleek steel and carbon fiber angular low poly stealth longships that shed the acid rain falling from the leaden sky transporting mercenary huskarl bands between coastal metropolises to collect taxes from recalcitrant subsidiary chiefs. The glint off the lens of a Heimdall Long Sight scope mounted on a Gugnir X50 high caliber sniper rifle.

Your team has to get your Wise Woman in to the Pool Of Lost Secrets, where she must elude or overcome the guardian spirits in the waters to gain the forgotten lore that the álfr were paying you to retrieve. If there weren't any complications you should be able to bypass the trolls without incident. But of course, there's always complications...

Oh good, a game guaranteed to provoke one of those "it's political if we talk about it", "it's political if we don't talk about it" exchanges, and somehow certain people will manage to blame TristramEvans TristramEvans .

Fun...for certain definitions of fun.

lol, sounds like a good enough reason for me to leave this to another Mod.

I've got a quiz to study for, no time for Cyberpunk Vikings dammit!

I blame TristramEvans TristramEvans for there not being enough cheesecake in the artwork.

May I suggest this as a start?

That intel you got from Mr. Jonsson was definitely faulty. Trolls, sure, you can forgive the lapse there. You had come prepared. Thordis "Pride of the Squad" Thorbjarnardottir had seen to that. You were certain her Ragnarok man pack rocket would be plenty for that - this wasn't going to be a quiet job after all. But when the flame and smoke cleared and the three inch thick titanium ribs in those trolls were exposed, you spit a curse at Loki for his treachery.

This sprung to mind (attached pic). Spaceman crash lands on Earth in the time of the vikings hunting a beastie. Sure it wasn't brilliant but it was fun in places.
This game seems like a confusing mash up of stuff though

I forgot that film existed. I wanted to see it at the time. Think it's going on the list...

I thought it was great as a mix, for the video game Too Human, but the Too human game was TERRIBLE. I just loved the mix of Norse Myth and Cybernetics.

Uluf slotted his Mjolnir-3000 Broadsword X into it's new polymer sheath. Clicking into place, it began to hum as the fractal edge began to charge. Lastly, he strapped on his micro pleather boots, almost afraid if he pulled the old straps too hard, they'd snap. But like always, they held true. Skarr the Fixer said 8:30 sharp, so he knew he would have to hustle to get through the crowd during market time. The fish monger from Svenland cove would have his stall open by then and he always brought a crowd.

You definitely win the thread, dude.

A Cyber-Viking Metal RPG inspired by War Pigs. I think the author must be young enough to have never heard of the Vietnam War.

... which is just as well, or otherwise we'd be having a Viet Cong Cyberpunk discussion. With neon punji sticks.

I always wonder what it would have been like in its original version, a four-disc RPG game for the original Playstation where a big deal was made of cybernetic upgrades being necessary to survive.

The few screenshots I saw of it were nice.

The cut scenes? Wonderful. Gameplay? Ugh. Massively terrible. Believe me, I finally got to read the full story. I'd prefer just to watch all the cutscenes in one combined video and build a game from that. It had some interesting ideas and the visuals made a great setting. The plot is a retelling of Norse Myth but with the addition of Baldur's reticence to go full cyborg, of course, it's interesting. Robots attack, humans, survive, AI survives and sort of has children (I assume it uplifts humans with cybernetics) To save the world they forge a peace accord with the robots, but then break it later, which is the physical conflict. The longer story is that the robots harvest humans so they can become more human.

The "gods" keep turning more and more to technology, and can't use dead humans like the robots so start harvesting from live humans to develop tech to become more cybernetic, they become basically the same as the robots. Baldur is caught in the middle with not wanting to become /less/ human and the other gods think less of him for this reason he's "too human".

Loki has his own plans of course, and they never explain them all, but it may be to wipe out both sides, so just pure humans remain. At least that's a theory anyway. (He could just be his usual stir-up trouble self.)

I want to know what system it uses before I get my hopes up.

Interesting, the art is pretty awesome. It's just gonna be gonzo I assume. My issue with it is that it's Mongoose. Mongoose and Catalyst Labs are on my ongoing shit list for bad quality products. Long release times between when the pdf releases and the print comes out. Even then they're crappy about making sure those print books get the latest errata and corrections and that was before the pandemic hit. Also both companies websites suck hind teat in my opinion though if I recall the Mongoose site was going to be getting a revamp. Hopefully its an improvement. Oh and Mongoose, Index! Index man! Learn it, love it, do it.

I know I'll be tempted by this just like I know I'll snag 2300AD once it's out in both pdf and print. I'll just bitch and moan as I do so and hope they improve. Though they've lost me on Traveller, I keep to Cepheus for Traveller or Classic Traveller.

Any ideas if they’re monocast, or if I can swap
limbs/weapons between them? The website and video were unhelpful.
The Hi-Tech miniatures (She Wolves) are multi-part, so you might be able to swap an arm from one to another, but they don’t come with extra options that I’m aware of, so you have 5 bodies and 5 sets of arms/guns.

The other guy is a Forgeworld character, so will be in pieces, but you won’t have much room to maneuver, so effectively monopose.

Those chicks are so cool, I’d use them as scouts, or a Fenris Sororitas squad. The snipers and sword/gun could be Imperial Assassins in disguise.

Yup. This is the kicker.

I don't know why RPG companies put blurbs up about their latest game with zero system information, but this is not the first time I've seen it.

It's an RPG, system info should be more of a thing IMHO...

We’ll probably not 2d20!

IMHO nothing wrong with the core 2d20 mechanic - it's just the rest of the game that they've tied it to!

From their d6 damage mechanic that is designed for funky d6's, to their GM anti-player pools... Bleh.

All they had to do was attach the 2d20 resolution and advantage mechanic to a standard roll for damage like D&D or BRP, and they could have had a good cinematic RPG system.

But they just had to try and re-invent the wheel for everything.

Yes, I concur the basic of 2d20 isn't wrong...but it's the Pool that was the deal-breaker for me (since I knew how my group was going to react to it anyway, so didn't bother pitching it at all:devil:).

Cepheus has been my choice as well, lately:thumbsup:.

Simple enough. They're for-profit companies. They want people to buy things. And with system-agnostic products, they know damn well that placing a label on them causes the system bashers to reflexively reject them.
