I've often wondered how much of a market there would be these days for a range with the kind of diversity and character GW offered before they went all plastic.

Dunno if it's been mentioned here before, but Dom and Billy from the movies have a podcast called The Friendship Onion that I really love listening to while I work. Here's one of the first episodes where they talk to Elijah.

Just finished watching it, great video. Really insightful. Thanks for sharing the link.

Yeah, I quite enjoyed it. Several things I didn't know. I grew up with that cartoon long before the Jackson films, and I particularly identified with what he said about fans of the book "filling in the details" for themselves, which was probably why I was fonder of it than it deserved.

Agreed, I thought that was a really spot on observation. Like you I saw these cartoons when they came out. I apparently liked Wizards more than the Dan Olson as an aside. I really loved it when it came out. heh. I need to watch it again, its been decades.

lol, yeah, he came down hard on Wizards. Don't think he even mentioned American Pop or Fire & Ice, which I think are Bakshi's best, and I think he kinda oversimplified what happened with Cool World and why Bakshi retired from film-making, but, those weren't really the point of the video and it was pretty long as it was

Oh, yeah you're right, he didn't even mention Fire & Ice, another one I liked. I also enjoyed Cool World, owned it on VHS. Watched it couple years ago and still liked it.

Edit: I think I'm going to have to go and see if I can purchase all of his work on Blu Ray.

If you liked Fire & Ice, have you seen The Spine of Night?

Heh, I was thinking “Wasn’t the GW Middle Earth line always plastic?”
Nope, there was a line in the preplastic eighties, many of which got recoded into the Warhammer ranges after they dropped the license.

I've still not seen that one. Maybe this weekend I'll see if I can snag it on Amazon and watch it with my wife. It's been my to watch list, I've just not seen it pop up on any of the services yet.

Edit: Nice, found it on Amazon.

Someone else posted this in another thread and it is really good. The same guy also did a very good but long takedown of cryptocurrency that really took off.
He does a lot of really good long-form video essays. The Cryptocurrency/NFT one is probably his most well known, but he also did one on Flat-earthers, Con-artists called the Mikealson Twins and a very amusing look at the Fifty Shades of Grey movies.

It is also on Shudder if you have that.

I think the handling of the ring wraiths as things of shadow -- especially on Weathertop -- is more interesting than the Peter Jackson presentation. In particular, I love how Strider drives the wraiths away with light and fire more than his sword.

The Ringwraiths were easily the best thing about the cartoon

Viva Dirt League did an advertisement for a Lord of the Rings game a while back and the guy's collecting his party to go to Mordor and destroy the ring when they run into a Ring Wraith and immediately invite him to join the party to go to Mordor and destroy the ring and the Nazgul is gobsmacked. "Uhm, yeah, sure okay"

I've been rereading up on Galadriel recently so rediscovered the Teleporno alternate version of her life in Unfinished tales. I'm expecting him and Celeborn to both turn up in season 2 in a US daytime soap love triangle style storyline kind thing.
