I appreciate this place

Reading those ban reasons/messages is a fascinating deep dive if you are ever bored. Nasty, passive aggressive and often hypocritical. Definitely time eating and often entertaining, be warned. hehe.
I used to read those on the daily. It bothered me a lot that in some cases I couldn't figure out from context what the ban-ee had done wrong. Eventually I decided it was an unhealthy fascination and moved on.

Out of curiosity did this list have prior interactions at another forum so just naturally oozed their way over here following each other, or were these all people that just randomly saw a new forum and said hey, a new forum with (2, 3 4 etc) members I'll join! I recognize about 1/2 dozen names from other forums I used to frequent.

Just curious, I was aware of this place for quite some time, but it took me about a year to find my way over here because it was tiny and new and so many new forums never amount to much.
I went actively looking for new forums. I looked at the site, three threads on the front page were about how much RPG.net sucks. I was trying to get away from that. GITP and the White Wolf forums seemed too specialised. Found this place in a thread on the purple site about where other people post, and didn't look back.

I had recently dropped out of college and as such was no longer able to attend the DND group I was apart of there. Wanting to stay apart of the hobby I typed "RPG Forum" into Google and 3 results came up. The first result was Rpgnet and a cursory glance revealed that they were rules happy and overly vocal about their political stance.
The second was the Site, and I briefly made an account there but found that they liked to imagine themselves as a wild west of edginess than talking about RPGs.
The third was the Pub and I've been happily married to it ever since.

Lucky bastard, some of us had to experience the decline of RPGNet and the Site in real time over what, almost 20 years?

Take a week off to contemplate your worthless opinions, you spineless spawn of entitlement.

I didn't want you to feel left out. Sorry that I couldn't muster up more derision that that, but hey I tried.

I'm part of the "Purple site bans anyone for posting almost anything" wave. Wait, which wave is that?
The current wave, if my recent lurking visit to TBP* is any indicator.

*I sometimes read Trouble Tickets for fun:grin:!

I have no data to back this up, but I think their policies are finally starting to backfire over there. I still login and check things, but there hasn't been an interesting thread in at least a month...

I wouldn't agree completely. There's a few thread I find interesting. Something I've found lately is Facebook doing a better job of exposing me to interesting groups.

This place has the best RPG discourse on the web, IMO. It's unique. I appreciate it here. I know sometimes I'm a square peg in a round hole. I'm working on it.

This is really one of the only RPG forums I frequent. I only go to a couple (unless there's drama, because I find most interned drama to be fucking HILARIOUS).

I used to. As I see places become very isolated and bubbled i start realizing those folks are also often committed to making a world that walled. That's less fun to envision.

We have a lot of lurkers here. I sort of view the members who do post to be a slice of what lurkers would post if they chose to do so. Also, many people here probably have a fan club they are unaware of.
I'm kind of a semi-lurker, partly because I don't get to game much anymore (no FtF in..10 years plus? Something like that, and I'm currently in a grand total of one PbP forum game) plus I find threads of 200 pages and start dates of 5 years ago to be somewhat intimidating to post in as a noob.

BTW, I quit RPGnet in 2015 after getting a one day ban for saying "most offshore call centres are awful" which made me a super-racist or something. Once you appear on the radar of the Moderati over there your days are numbered. If I ever I think of going back for some PbP games I just go read their Bans forum and remind myself why I shouldnt.
I also quit RPGSite early on when Pundit started treating some PoS new member as the second coming of the messiah just cos they got permabanned from RPGNet for threatening to show up at a meet and make trouble.
