  • It's 06th of February 2021 and I've just allowed one of my players to purchase a spell...

    Hasn't happened since then:devil:.
    First session of 2021.
My party in Age of Wuxia met an inn named "The Mended Drum". My explanation: no campaign I'm running can ever lack a branch of this multiversal chain  !
I was going to start a thread about a campaign idea, and then I realized that I've already got the best system for it: Mythras:shade:!

What campaign idea, you're asking? Does it matter:grin:?
OK, now I have a problem. Does anyone know of a martial arts/wuxia game published in the last decade and inspired by Legends of the Wulin?
I have bought it, but I can't remember the name, and thus can't re-read it:grin:!

The game in question is Dragon Pool. I opened my external memories, literally, and found it on one of them:shade:!
Now I'm off to re-read it.
Today 21-11-2020 might well become known as "the day when my group broke up". We'll see... but I'm not sure whether I'd even try to change that. Or whether I should.

Eh, guys, no need to worry. There are other groups as well, I hear D&D even has something of a following... :shade:

And if there aren't any that fit my time slots and preferences, I might try to join an overseas group over Internet. Or do more PbP. Or just use the spare time to get in shape.

Or whatever. But I always survive, and don't even plan to stop playing :gunslinger:!
My boss died from Covid-19 yesterday.
    R.I.P., Maxim Mintchev!
"(E)xercise began in ancient times to train soldiers to fight and also became the privilege of elites, its popularity exploded during the industrial revolution to help growing legions of clerks, bankers, administrators and other white-collar workers who needed to find new ways to move." - David E. Lieberman for "Guardian"
I just ordered a print copy of Fight! 2nd Edition!
Turns out it was part of my KS pledge...

And I'd received the pledge code (printed by Drivethru) in May. I just never noticed it, until I got to cleaning up my e-mail (a Deed worthy of Herakles)!

I'm just glad the code wasn't set to expire. That's all I'm saying.
I'm now looking for a basic mechanic that allows me to express physical qualities, skill, experience and self-confidence different ways. Synergy is close, but not quite there...
Been running Art of Wuxia (by DwD). And now I'm writing up the adventure...
    Funny how those things happen.
I don't know what amazes me more: that GMing poetry exists now, or that I participated in its creation:grin:!

Oh, and can you guess what had prompted it?

The only thing I understand here is "CoC7", but I'll take it as a sign that CoC is (starting to become) popular in Korea, too...

The retroclone they play is very simple and truncated (I did a google translate on it a while back) so they'd be as shocked at full 6E I'd say. Yeah basically it's like GORE.

I actually can't find any hard data on the industry there at all to be honest. This is all from Steam and face to face chats with Chinese gamers (and others who've chatted with them)

I'm starting to like Roman-era games more and more. Should I make this my next Refereeing Trademark? The current ones are Wuxia/Kung-fu/Martial Arts, Swashbuckling, S&S, Cyberpunk and Mysteries. And I'm trying to add SF as well, but I need more work.

As a bonus, there's some great d100-based Roman games: Mythras Rome and Maelstrom Rome:grin:!

Just started a Heroic Greece game - the Classical ans Archaic peroiods have a great vibe, full pantheons and mythical beings.

I am somewhat less of a fan of some aspects of Mythic Greece. But it's complicated.

Mythic Roman Politics, however, are universally nice for a campaign!

I would love to run Mythic Rome one of these days. Ah well.

I persuaded our GM to run another CoC adventure for me. It turned out to be a tournament module! Huh, didn't know there were CoC tournament modules.
Name was something like "something weird in LA".

I lost all of 3 SAN and no HP soloing it. Yeah, everybody dies in CoC, sure!
My PC, however, ended up in good health, and exactly 400 times as rich as when he started.
    How would I have rated?
Discovered recently: I can actually do the "pistol squat" on one of my legs (but I need something to support me on one side). The other leg needs to build just a bit more strength before that (and obviously I need more balance on both, because I need the side support to avoid toppling).
Life with kids teaches you a lot.
What do you do when you create your own NPC Enemy and realize that he can easily take on anyone one level of experience above you (and win)?
Personally, I prepare for fun times ahead.
Planning to play Fractured Kingdom with a solo engine (houseruled by me, but including parts from the WoD Solo engine, Mythic and CRGE). The first PC is going to be a Verdant guy with a knack for languages. Still now sure what the second PC is going to be.

Raoh... clearly a name such as that would master every style. (If this is a fist of the North Star reference.) But the build I used at cons was all power based. ;)

First Daughter got her first sword/saber lesson today. It was nice, she's taking well to the steps and almost didn't hit the floor with the downwards strikes!
First Son got his first sword/saber lesson as well. He only hit himself once, so it's good for him as well!
Of course, they're 7 and 3, so I wasn't hard on them. And they were using adult-sized bokken.
We needed a warm-up before MA practice.

It seems that the first supplement I buy for any game is always the martial arts/fencing one. Bought Trinity when it was discounted, got Fists of Flux to go with it!
    Are there others like me:grin:?
Amusingly, I don't consider martial arts to a mystical thing (unless it's part of a setting where it's true). It's just "advanced fighting techniques for people willing to spend lots of time on them".
Tonight, I found something that I've been taught as "a secret technique". Turns out, it's on YouTube already...

Granted, the really secret part is the follow-up, which is missing. But I guess the reason is that it's forbidden by MT rules:tongue:?
Or might that be because applying it outside of a life-and-death situation would lead to doing hard time:shade:? Though questions!
Reading the Witchcraft/AFMBE RPG. Still wondering why this game isn't more popular. Stuff like that's objectively worse has more traction:thumbsup:!

It was fairly popular in its day. Somewhat overshadowed by the slightly sexier Cinematic Unisystem (which also had licenses like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Army of Darkness attached to it). The company being allll but dead hinders it these days, as gamers seemingly either need the constant influx of new and shiny, or it needs to be the game they cut their teeth on.

I just found an AMA with Kevin Crawford. My respect for the guy only grew (along with my self-respect, because I've been trying to convince people of some of his points for literally years....but that's another topic)!
And he even mentioned ME! "People are buying my games without any intention to use the system, because of the sandbox tools"... that's me, right:grin:?

Ditto, I really like Scarlet Heroes and need to get Spears of the Dawn which looks awesome but for SWN and Godbound I prefer everything but the core system actually! I mean it's okay but it's not as good as all the other material.

First time trying to get to an online FB event. And now it turns out it's too complicated for me?
I knew FB cannot be trusted:grin:!
Heh. The description of the Brazilian judo club reminds me of the Bulgarian ones. Chats and "no politics" rules included. Alas, the notes about corruption and slow justice are also familiar...
OTOH, we've got less trainees from a non-Bulgarian ethnicity, but then we've got no death squads and automatic shootings, either.

    "More or less" yes .

But I was asking "among people that don't necessarily train".
And there's a new RPG being published in Bulgaria. I hope to have it by the next weekend!
Keeping the alliteration, the title would translate as "Courageous Cronicles".
Reworking the damage system in Strange Tales of Songling now... calling BedrockBrendan BedrockBrendan
"Roll the Damage Dice vs. Hardiness. A 10 on the dice is always a SuccessUnless Hardiness<10, it also counts as 1 Extra Success"
    Damage vs. Hardiness Results:
    No successes: Scratched
    1 Succ.: Wounded
    2 Succ: Crippled
    3 Succ: Incapacitated
    4 Succ: Dying
    5 Succ: Dead.
    6 Succ: Overkilled. "
    Self-explanatory.

I would personally put crippling after dying, because you can recover from dying, but crippling seems like permanent condition. Just a personal choice.
    AsenRG
    AsenRG
You can recover from Crippling, too, and recovery from a wound that sent you Dying takes the same time at best, or usually, longer. It just sounds misleading, I guess?
BTW, I've had a folk "manual healer" setting my shoulder straight already, so yes, I'm pretty sure you can recover from pretty much anything but paralysis or death.
    BedrockBrendan
    BedrockBrendan
By crippling I thought you meant losing an arm or being blinded. If that is the case, then I think what you have is fine
I just found there's lots of youtube videos explaining "how to play tabletop RPGs". Probably not news to many people, but it was news to me.
