Oxenfree. Also, seconding Life is Strange. Soooooo good. And I don't know about other Telltale games, but Tales from the Borderlands is pretty amazing.

How do you define visual novels? Do walking simulator count? If so, What Remains Of Edith Finch.

Ooooh, I almost forgot - Night in the Woods. Wonderful slice-of-life stuff set in a small town with a bunch of quirky characters. With a focus on platonic friendship.

Tales from the Borderlands is my favourite Telltale game. In general, Telltale tell good stories but it's very linear and few of your choices matter.
