Renaming abilities. Not a mechanic per se but I take a page from Vaults of Vaarn, renaming Wisdom to Psyche (perception and intuition) and Charisma to Ego (willpower and strength of personality).
Slot-based encumbrance. A few games do this but the one in Shadowdark RPG is nice and simple. PCs...
I actually feel it is the other way around. Mike has transformed from the competent trouble shooter of Breaking Bad to basically Batman in Better Call Saul.
I don't see the appeal of Natural Born Killers; even as a callow young man I thought it failed to deliver any meaningful social criticism despite beating the viewer over the head with it. I didn't find any of it particularly shocking or edgy; back in the 90's I lived for that kinda stuff and it...
Although I was interested in the product I decided not to participate in the Kickstarter due to Nightfall's various issues over the decades. Can you provide a brief review?
Sharing is the problem. That’s what gets unwanted attention. I find it highly unlikely that Google or any other provider is screening directories looking for copyright infringement. There's no way to prove how a file was sourced; the user may legitimately own the right to back it up.
OP has a legit beef. This isn't 1e D&D where first level players can start with full plate and it's not a big deal. Thanks to the more restrained numbers and bounded accuracy of 5e, Armor Class is a lot more powerful in 5e than in previous editions. A suit of plate costs 1500 G which, with...
Abstract wealth and granular wealth both have their places in RPGs. I don't think one is better than the other but if you put a gun to my head I'd say abstract is probably a better fit for most games.
That being said, when it comes to D&D in its various forms I use XP for gold so granular...
Understood. In Roguelikes, all progression is lost on defeat. In Roguelites, there is progression remaining after character death that typically makes later attempts easier, more varied, more interesting etc.
I incorrectly assumed anyone in a video game thread knows how roguelites work so replace that quote with "I might spend 2-4 hours on a doomed run that earns meta-progression that makes future runs easier"
Huh that's weird. I have 272 hours of play time on the original and suspect people are conflating "less grindy" and "less punishing" with "dumbed down". In the OG Darkest Dungeon, a party wipe could be absolutely brutal in terms of hours lost; in DD2 I might lose 2-4 hours on a failed run and...
Darkest Dungeon 2 has sucked me in. I find the learning curve is a little steeper on this one and a couple buddies I've spoken to seem to feel the same. Right now I am less concerned with beating bosses (I am currently on boss #2) than figuring out how to make effective teams and earning skills...
