I hate geese. A free roaming thread.

Another city has fallen. The conquerors are parading through the streets.

Or we are equally crazy

    What are you watching?

I haven't seen any episodes yet, but that was my reaction as well when I saw a poster for it.

    What are you watching?

I just watched the first episode of Historien om Sverige, the history of Sweden. A documentary, and the first episode is the stone-age from about 14,500 years ago (the fist gatherer-hunters following the animals as the ice retracted) to about 3,700 years ago when the bronze age reached this part...

RPG duets; one-on-one; GM and one player

I've ran quite a few "duet" games. As there is no intra-player interaction, it plays more focus on me as a GM. On the other hand, there is less headache with syncing the time-schedule of the game or the ingame one. With only one player, I find I need a higher compatibility on gaming style with...

    What's the opposite of escapism?

Interesting thought. Well, it kind of requires something to get catharsis from. So I guess it could be a kind of triangle where both escapism and the seek for carthasis is two separate corners, and not having something to avoid or confront in that way being the third corner.

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

I find it perfectly acceptable if we throw out one of those labels that doesn't fit me, to not change the sum of them.

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

Well, that the phrase is a bit too new on this forum doesn't help. There's not really a "set in stone" definition yet.

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

Uh, yes? The difference of having it as part of the focus and having it as the backdrop. But having it shown a lot in the background without really affecting the player characters in any way is a middle ground. The other end from having it as a focus is after all having it heavily sanitized or...

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

I see escapism and exploratism as different mentalities taken for how to approach role-playing, not that a specific game is one or the other (but different games can have better or worse support for it). Exploratism, as I think of it, is fairly closely related to culture gaming as a large part...

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

Hey! Examining navel lint is an old and noble activity.

Are you an Escapist or Explorer?

I began using the phrase exploratism because I never felt how I heard the phrase escapism fit me. The wikipedia page for example defines it as "Escapism is mental diversion from unpleasant aspects of daily life, typically through activities involving imagination or entertainment." I don't have a...

The advantages and limitations of life-path character generation

I'm not a fan of life-path systems, but there are better and worse examples of them. For one to work for me, there has to be a lot of options and some are far too limited. For my current Traveller game, we used Mongoose 2e with a few modifications. The main change is to have 5 "reroll" tookens...

Tell me how you'd put together a Vietnam War campaign.

So... The former, or I've completely forgotten it (which is less likely).

Tell me how you'd put together a Vietnam War campaign.

I'm 52 and I don't think I ever heard that song before today. Either I moved in different circles, or it never became popular here in Sweden.

Tell me how you'd put together a Vietnam War campaign.

I have it, but never used it (the same with Recon). So, unless there's someone with actual experience with the game I might be able to at least answer some questions about it.

    What's the opposite of escapism?

As I often want something else (or something more?) than escapism when gaming, I tend to refer to what I want as exploratism. However, I haven't given it much though if that would fit other thing than role-playing.

Tell me how you'd put together a Vietnam War campaign.

As the special forces are among the more educated boots on the ground of the US military forces, I see a possibility to have a bit of knowledge of why the US ended up in that conflict, and they might even know why it was at a time close that North Vietnam and the US might have ended up as...

Tell me how you'd put together a Vietnam War campaign.

While I've been thinking about how to use the board game Vietnam 1965-1975 to make an alternative history for the Vietnam war, and then run something more in the vein of the Tour of Duty TV series (at least the first season), I'm just incapable to think in terms of short campaign. So I don't...

    What are you watching?

I'm glad to hear it is enjoyable. I like visuals enough in the Netflix adaptation, but not the writing. However, the original is in the top ten on IMDB's list of most -popular TV-shows after all. So, it might be that I'm just holding the Netflix version to a very high bar. Considering...
