Interest Check: The Outfit - Scum and Villainy/Blades In The Dark hybrid (or FATE)

Yep, I did that. They're toward the bottom of my sheet.

S&V - The Outfit (OOC thread)

Huh, that formatting didn't translate well ... Anyway, let me know if I screwed anything up. Also, I prefer to go light on equipment to begin with, since I don't really know what we're up to at first. I don't like starting out by buying everything and a 10 foot pole ...

    I don't get "hating" games ...

Yah, the default setting for 5e seems to be Forgotten Realms, but the core books themselves barely favor FR over any other "generic" setting.

Interest Check: The Outfit - Scum and Villainy/Blades In The Dark hybrid (or FATE)

This all looks great so far. I'll cozy up to it tonight and see if I can get my character all worked out.

    I don't get "hating" games ...

Yah, when I have a hankering to play old-school D&D, I keep looking at Moldvay/Cook B/X. Ironic, since I never gave it much attention BackInTheDay(TM).

    What have you been reading?

Aw, man, now I'm really torn between those two texts. The first one has more content, but the second one makes South Park references ...

    I don't get "hating" games ...

THat's funny, I was just thinking of that a couple of days ago. I can understand their frustration, but a little gratitude, folks! Anyway, "Wishing I Had a Photograph of You" was a WAAAYYYYYYY better song ...

    I don't get "hating" games ...

Nice points here. Yah, I even recall some of the backlash focusing on typical 80s "Look at what's become of 60s / 70s counter-culture!!!" hand-wringing ...

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

I mostly got bored of the murder-hobo phenom. I want PCs to have some sort of interesting ethos, though I am more flexible about whether it's heroic or not. Even the Lawful vs. Chaotic dichotomy has a lot of potential. Straight-up two-dimensional mustache-twirling villains, though, no thank...

Random other observation: Jon Hodgson as illustrator for KC's Wolves of God, as well as the 2nd edition of The Hero's Journey. That guy is everywhere! :D

    Not at all boring, thanks!

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Oh, sure: Christianity is the historically dominant religion of the western hemisphere, so it has widespread influence, whether or not the author or work is or is advocating Christianity, no argument there. I'd personally reserve "Christian" as a descriptor of an RPG for something more specific...

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Huh, I thought I recalled that intro (which was a letter to the publisher, now that you mention it) going out of its way to show that these beings weren't Christian beings at all. Again, I could be remembering wrong, it's been a while ...

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Yah, it seemed that Tolkien had a low view of allegory, for sure. It also wouldn't be the first time that an author wasn't fully honest about their own work for PR reasons ... Still, I have trouble thinking of The One Ring a Christian RPG. (EDIT: Kinda in the same way that there's...

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Since this has turned into a more general thread: tell me more about KC's Wolves of God? I just saw fantasy middle-ages western European OSR RPG and kept on going, but it sounds more interesting now that it's been raised in this context. Anyone have / played / run it?

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

I agree that Tolkien's work is influenced by his Christianity, but I thought I read in the intro to the Silmarillion that he explicitly said it was not a work of Christian allegory. Am I remembering that wrong? If that's the case, then I'm not sure I'd categorize The One Ring as a Christian RPG.

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Just to be clear: my post was "I haven't seen it elsewhere, so I don't think we can judge that other sites aren't being supportive"; not "I haven't seen it elsewhere, so it must not be supported."

Land of the Christians Crowdfunding project!

Yah, I haven't seen it discussed elsewhere so far (but then again, I don't go to every site on the Internet).

Steve Jackson Games: GURPS 2020 PDF Project

GURPS Lite is about as complex as I'm looking for these days. Are the various supplements, adventures, etc., usable with Lite, or is Lite just an intro into the full system?
