    Broken Compass

Essentially you choose two Tags - these are things like Action Hero, Explorer, Pilot, Thief etc. There are 18 in the core rules, but there are more in subsequent volumes. Each Tag gives you an increase in one field (things like Action, Guts, Knowledge, Wild etc) and an increase in 8 skills...

    Where I read Aquelarre

Chapter 10 is an extensive Bestiary. This is 56 pages long and divided into several parts - I'll look at a couple of parts this afternoon. This section is called Numen and deals with creatures with a degree of Irrationality, most of which are immortal - if it has a body, which dies, it will be...

    Where I read Aquelarre

Very long gap I'm afraid, again due to family stuff. Angelicum Natura also begins with a short fiction section - I think I will comment on the fiction as a whole at the end of the read-through. We start with a short, interesting section on the history of angels and their worship - I'm no...

What's a noncritically acclaimed RPG that you like?

hmmm. I'm not completely sure - I'd need to take another look - but my default position with Pulp is for there to be fewer rather than more, skills. Maybe no more than 20-ish

What's a noncritically acclaimed RPG that you like?

I also love PDQ - Truth and Justice was a great little supers game and I would kill for a second edition. I also liked the PDQ version of Achtung Cthulhu! - That it never appeared as a PoD version was a disappointment to me...

What's a noncritically acclaimed RPG that you like?

I like Airship Daedalus as well! If the skill list was a little shorter I would maybe like it more, but certainly an unappreciated gem...

    Fortean RPG?

If you're thinking of an x-files type game you could take a look at Conspiracy x 2nd ed which is excellent. It does throw in everything including the kitchen sink, but it's easy to edit out what you don't want.

    Fortean RPG?

As well as The Unexplained (mentioned above) I would mention Conspiracy X 2e (still available as pdfs). There are only 4 books and they cover a wide range of stuff: Aliens, Psychics, Occult, Cryptids and Conspiracies.

    Fortean RPG?

I came here to mention The Unexplained as well!

    Where I read Aquelarre

The section starts with another short piece of fiction continuing the story from the earlier pieces. We then have a section dealing with the Devil - the Hebrew Devil, the Christian Devil the Islamic Devil and the Medieval Devil and the similarities and differences between them - and in the...

    Where I read Aquelarre

thank you for the good wishes - much appreciated. So, the Rituals. There aren't as many of these as there are spells (I kind of expected this). Many of them are the sort of things you would expect form a religion (rather than a roleplaying game) so Absolution, Baptism and Matrimony for...

    Where I read Aquelarre

Thank you - she's OK in herself but it looks like she may have juvenile arthritis in her knee (she's not 2 yet) which we hope is going to settle down.

    Where I read Aquelarre

Another hiatus while my little granddaughter has been in hospital.... Ars Theologica deals with Rituals of Faith - which allow religious characters with strong enough belief to work wonders/miracles. The author makes it clear that this chapter mostly draws on the Christian viewpoint, with some...

    Broken Compass

I'm running it at the moment. I have to say I'm loving it. The rules are simple enough to be pretty much adaptable to any situation you like. The characters are really competent in their areas of expertise so can pull off some cool stunts. It took me a couple of goes to get the balance...

    Where I read Aquelarre

What a great suggestion!.... Hmmm. I did co-author OneDice Robin Hood, and wrote the skin on the Old Gods/Spirits and magic for it and looking back on it some of the themes in that are a bit similar to Aquelarre, except I took the stance that spirits/the Old Gods were not simply devices of...

    Homebrew Settings

The home-brew setting I came up with most recently is this one for Psychic Spies... I've run it with Modern AGE, and with (my favourite) Cepheus Modern. The setting is the UK during the Cold War in the late 1950s The specific period I used was to start the campaign on 4 May 1958 The theme...

    Where I read Aquelarre

First, an apology for the lengthy absence. We have had some difficult and emotional family stuff to deal with, so a lot of stuff was put on hold. However, here we go again... I'm continuing the Ars Magica Chapter, where we are moving on to Casting Spells. In the context of action in the...

    Suggestions for a Pulp Game!

I'm a big fan of the "adventure pulps", and particularly the Doc Savage/Indiana Jones model (larger than life characters, globe-hopping adventures, dastardly villains and a smattering of weird science/supernatural menace. I've played many of the games that have been on the market form time to...

    Where I read Aquelarre

Yes, I kind of feel the same - if you believe in God, angels etc that surely goes hand in hand with belief in demons as well. Re-purposing the rule so that it describes where individuals think worldly power truly lies appeals to me - if your IRR is high then that essentially means you regard...

    Where I read Aquelarre

Chapter 6 - Ars Magica his chapter is 90 pages long, so it will take a while to get through! We start with the usual piece of fiction (they are all linked so I might go back at the end and read them all through together) We start off with a short section about the requirements to cast spells...
