    OD&D in-character thread

Boyan got a 6 "A most strange rumbling", Boyan thought, turning lazily to look at the source.

So, what has been the impact of OSR?

You mean, like those people that fetishize fourth wall-breaking mechanics:grin:? Also, the synthesis of OSR and indie games already exists (naturally, since OD&D was an "indie" game when it was created). Check The Nightmares Underneath for a start, maybe the Black Hack, and a couple of others...

    Exalted: Any opinions?

:D Actually no, and I say that as someone who found the Rule of Cool to hold interest for less than a couple of months after I first encountered it:). You just have to cherry-pick your sourcebooks, but as long as you do that, the setting holds together remarkably well:wink:.

    Traveller: Sinharaja Sector (in-character thread)

"I agree with your latter statement. Screw the guards...and hope they look nice...but the area is going to be full of starport security. And those guys were efficient - I mean, they caught up on us when we acted with surprise. Now? Pipe dream." He then laughs sharply. "We can always steal...

Come on, Malleustein, don't hold back! Tell us how you really feel about the game:D!

    Traveller: Sinharaja Sector (in-character thread)

"We all know Omar Zoghbi, the Agha's attendant and bodyguard. We met him....seems like an eternity ago", Volodimir reminds them, as he looks for a way to tie up the woman - former captain, was she? - and the mechanic. "And yes, his invitation to visit him might not be standing. Or it might be...

    Traveller: Sinharaja Sector (in-character thread)

"Heh, Serenib. Does the name ring a bell?", Volodimir grins. "I support landing elsewhere and see if we can close the ramp. Either that, or we need to seal the cargo bay and fly off. But first, let us go and drag the crew inside with us...it would be quicker and easier if anyone comes with me...

OOC: Boyan is first (on the right). BTW, how many of his weapons did you leave behind?

"Gothic and Lovecraftian horror are inherently thematically incompatible."

The disclaimer is kinda important, because that's not how many of the HPL works are structured. And the ending is different, too. Granted, I don't like HPL either, but I definitely like CoC:D!

I hear they don't love them, but they at least keep them after borrowing the word from French:devil:.

OOC: yes, but then Eloise locked herself in. My question is "how sturdy is the locking mechanism for this room".

    Exalted: Any opinions?

In which point, I'd agree. I just wouldn't agree that those people are any more "Exalted purists" than me or, possibly, you:smile:. Also, the term "pure Exalted" makes me think of well-bathed Nexus courtesans, for some reason:wink:! Well, duh, of course it's not:grin:! But then, you could say...

    Exalted: Any opinions?

Haha, no:). I'm arguing I can get closer than the official systems to emulating the Essence and spirit of the setting by using other games, yes:wink:. But, and that's an elephant-sized "butt" we've got right here, the above depends on your answer of the question "what is Exalted". And no two...

    Weirdest RPGs evah

I'm not sure Bigfoot would have fitted our game, but maybe we excised parts of it? I remember demons had shown up and we got recruited to fight them because we were deemed suitably expandable, in a 2000s-as-seen-in-the-80ies-by-a-Steven-King-on-a-downer-drug world. Our first and only clash with...

"Gothic and Lovecraftian horror are inherently thematically incompatible."

OK, that explains it:smile:! Totally understandable, too, since the protagonist that has it happening to him is basically the narrator. Which makes me think we should really talk whether we can convey horror even in fights the PCs win, via picking the point of view of the least successful one...

Yep, sure seems like that's the one:)! The government was demon-infested, men in black abounded, and so on. Did it use a d12 dicepool:wink:? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dread:_The_First_Book_of_Pandemonium https://rpggeek.com/rpg/8867/spite-second-book-pandemonium

    Exalted: Any opinions?

Well, to be fair, Indian myth and heroic Chinese stories do list 40-kilograms staffs, enormous maces, and similar stuff that make me think "nobody could really block this, only very clean parries would work, but if you get tired wearing and swinging it, you're as good as dead, because the drop...

Is that the same Pandemonium as referenced in Dread/Spite:)? Cause I've played one of those.
